5 Jeans for Spring & How to Wear 'Em

From the super-flared to the super-skinny to everything in between, pretty much every style of denim is in right now! The good news? You already have most of these styles in your wardrobe. Here are some ideas for how to rock five denim trends for spring 2011!

1. Flares: Flares are back in style in a big way! In fact, the bigger the better when it comes to the size of the “bell.” Rock this exaggerated look with a jacket and some heels which will elongate your legs and look really on-trend!

1. Gap New Wide Leg Trouser Jeans, $55.60
2. American Eagle Vintage Flare Jean, $34.95
3. Express Flare Leg Stella Regular Fit Jean, $79.90

2. Skinny: Just because flares ruled the runways doesn’t mean you should throw out your skinny jeans just yet! They are the best type of jeans to wear under boots, and you can always transition them to spring by pairing ‘em with a colorful cardigan and cute pumps.
Jeans: Gap (photos 1 & 3), $44
Jeans: American Eagle (photo 2), $33

Jeans: Hudson/Filene’s Basement, $70

Just like J:
1. Gap Perfect Boot Jeans, $69.50
2. American Eagle Slim Boot Jean, $29.95
3. Hudson Signature Boot Cut Jeans, $187 at Shopbop

4. White: White is one of the hottest trends for spring—white dresses, white shirts and, yes, white denim. Don’t be shy about wearing these before Memorial Day—pair your white denim with a navy blazer or a heavy cardigan to take you through spring!
Jeans: Gap, $30

Just like J:
1. Gap Cropped Skinny Trouser Jeans, $59.50
2. Express Bootcut Stella Regular Fit Jean, $69.90

5. Colors: Spring is always a colorful season, but this year especially we’ll be seeing lots of bright colors in stores and on the runway. Step up your denim collection with some gray, black or red skinny jeans!
Jeans: Gap, $35
Jeans: Gap, $15
Jeans: Gap, $35

Just like J:
1. Gap Always Skinny Jeans (Patch Pocket, Black Wash), $79.50

  1. Loving the wide legs (of course I am keeping my skinnies as you suggest) for spring. I just found a really cute pair online at Old Navy for even less than the Gap ones ....they were 34.50 on sale for 29.50!

  8. I really want to get a pair of flares, I have notice so many bloggers and runway shows showcasing the wider cut leg and it looks great! It took me a while to hop on board for skinny jeans, and now I live in them... I dont want to make the same mistake and wait out the flare trend until its too late.

  10. J, I always love your color combos! Nice work! I'm loving the fact that flares are back for spring. They play up curvy hips and thighs, and they are a perfect mix of tailored and casual when paired with a blouse and blazer. Nice post!

  11. I'm really loving all the new colored jeans this year. I've never really did a color other than black but think I'll venture into red or something fun this upcoming year. For some reason white jeans have never appealed to me. They do look adorable on you though. Thanks for the tips. I really LOVE your blog :)

  21. My closet is full of skinny jeans, one pair of flares and a few bootcuts. The one thing I have yet to try is jeans of color (grey doesnt count) So I am looking forward to spicing up my wardrobe with a pair of red, pink or yellow jeans!!

  22. Haha, no! I had a pair of flares I've been wearing this whole time too. :-) I think the difference is that stores weren't selling them for awhile. The runway brought them back and now a few (like Gap) are selling them again!

  23. In the top row with the flares, where are the sequin shirt and green jacket from? I love em!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tory, the sequin shirt is by Chan Luu and I bought it at TJ Maxx. The green jacket is by Gap last fall. The good news is that everyone is selling jackets like this right now!

  32. Great outfits! Love the first sets the most. I haven't found a pair of flares that flatter my hips yet, any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  33. What is it about flares that you don't like on your hips? It is the rise of the jeans maybe - have you tried both a high and low rise?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good thing I kept all my flared jeans lol.
From #5, the middle picture with the red jeans, that looks is sooo gorgeous. I LOVE that top and belt. Have you posted it here before? I don't remember seeing it!

  35. I just discovered this blog -- where have I been? Love the concept and your style. And I'm so happy the flared jeans are back in style (even though I just accepted the whole skinny jean thing and realize how great they are)!

  37. You have a good memory! I haven't posted that outfit before, because I actually wound up returning the shirt (looks cute in the picture, but it was way too big). I'm hoping to find one similar though and wear it soon! :-)

  43. J. can you tell me how you stay in great shape? Do you have any kids and if so, what advice do you have for dressing a "new body." My daughter is 10 mths old and I can't fit into my pre pregnancy clothes but I hate to go buy all new stuff and my weight loss just isn't working as fast as planned.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi Yolanda! Here is a link to my fitness post: helps.http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/09/my-fitness-story.html I've never been pregnant, but I have dressed a lot of women with this same issue. I would try to get as creative as possible with anything you do have that fits - and probably buy a couple things (mostly for the bottom half) that are inexpensive and will hold you over. Jewelry can be a lifesaver too, and will fit you no matter your size! Hope this helps!
