Today's Everyday Fashion: Feels Like Home
Something about this outfit reminds me of home. I grew up in a brome field in Kansas surrounded by cows and while I may have thought it was lame as a teenager, I now get all gooey inside when I think about it. I can't put my finger on exactly why this outfit reminds me of home. Maybe because it has just a hint of country? Or maybe these colors remind me my American Indian heritage? Either way, I feel very much like myself in this outfit, and that my friends, is the best kind of outfit of all. :-)
Why this works: Turquoise and camel are an amazing color combination, don't be afraid to try it at home! The left outfit is perfect for casual occasions, while the right look could be a colorful ensemble for work.
Shirt: Banana Republic, $20 (really old)
Skirt: J.Crew, $45
Belt: H&M, $20
Necklace: c/o Stella & Dot
Boots (left): Bakers, $95
Shoes (right): Restricted/Endless.com, $39
Here's a closer look at today's necklace just as an FYI (I don't think it's available for purchase anymore, but it's hard to see in the pictures above):

I am loving all the tribal necklaces that are out, and turquiose is one of my fave colors. You look great as always J.

soooo pretty, I'm obsessed with turquoise jewelry! this outfit reminds me of spring, makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteI just love turquoise — And Kansas!
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual combo! I really like it. I don't own any more taupe/khaki colored pants/skirts since mine wore out and I'm still on the hunt for one's that fit my length.
ReplyDeleteLove the top! I would have never though this color combo could work.
ReplyDeleteI looooove that necklace! First learned about Stella & Dot last year at a Shecky's event, and I'm actually going to one tomorrow night in DFW. So excited!
Unrelated question: I have a black wrap dress from Banana. Do you think black tights and nude pumps would work?
ReplyDeleteCrazy how shoes can completely change an outfit! However, that blue looks fabulous on you!
ReplyDeleteSee, when I first read the part where you said it reminded you of home in Kansas, I thought of rolling crop fields against the blue sky (for the colors) :) These colors are great together, and very cheerful!
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, what is your Native American heritage (if you don't mind my asking)?
The color combo is just amazing love it :))

Thanks Sara! :-) My great x3 grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee and I get pretty much all of my physical characteristics from that side of the family!
ReplyDeleteI think it might be too much of a contrast between the tights and shoes. Black tight/black shoes works. Gray tights/ gray shoes works. And nude shoes, bare legs with a black dress works.
ReplyDeleteI have a real addiction to turquoise jewelry, I keep buying it, it's like an involuntary reaction when I see it!
ReplyDeleteI totally bought that necklace after having seen it on you many months ago!! And I got my stylist's last one so it was a steal!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours in this.. They are very rich.
Question for you: Can we see your closet?
I got that skirt from J.Crew this weekend. It's so gorgeous and I can't wait to wear it! Love the way you've put it together with the turquoise. So cute!!

Nice post. Reminds me of home also and I thought I recognized something in your features:-) I am from Oklahoma and I only have turquoise jewelry from my childhood. This inspires me to invest in some new pieces and it just dawned on me why i miss my favorite turquoise shirt so much. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIs that the "bell skirt" from J Crew? Out of curiosity, what size do you wear in that, I am really petite and considering buying it but I don't want 00 to be too big (yes - that is a problem for me believe it or not lol)
ReplyDeleteWhat's the link to the skirt? Mine is wool, and it's been awhile so I don't think they have the exact one anymore. I thought it fit really true to size though. The waistband is elastic so it adjusts to your body
ReplyDeleteI've had a closet post on my to-do list for 6 months. It's coming soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteI anxiously await!!
ReplyDeleteBTW: Was in Florida last week and we hit up the outlets.. man Florida prices were fabulous! Not quite so good here in Toronto. They don't markdown quite so generously here.
I totally agree Stephanie! The deals here are even a little bit better than what I was finding when I lived in Boston.
ReplyDeleteYou may be on to something. I too am a small town country girl & would wear this adorable ensamble in a heartbeat. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI like how you do the two outfits - one with boots, one with shoes. Cool.

ReplyDeleteJ, how many belts do you have? It seems like you have a lot, and I like the styles and the way you wear them!

You caught me. I have tons of belts. :-) This one is definitely my favorite though, I wear it all the time!
ReplyDeleteYep! I think the black is the exact same skirt but they have a similar color in a cotton skirt.
ReplyDeleteWhereabouts in Kansas? I'm from Paola--eastern side of the state.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Gardner, so we played you guys in sports! :-) I went to high school in Shawnee Mission then went to KU for college.
