I wore the shorts version of this outfit for a shopping trip on Thursday! I like the skirt even more, but I went for comfort with shorts, even though I don't love the inseam length on this particular pair. It can be really helpful to determine your ideal inseam length(s) before you shop. For reference, the pair I'm wearing is about 2 inches. Over time I have figured out that my ideal inseam length is 4 inches. Inseams range from .5 inch to 2 inch daisy dukes, to a mid-range of 4-6 inches, and then the next step is generally a bermuda measuring 11-15 inches. Figuring out what inseams you prefer and looking for that length on the tag before you try shorts on can save time. What inseam length do you prefer?
Shirt: Gap, $5
Belt: H&M, $20
Sandals: Nine West/DSW, $60 (similar)Old Navy / Forever 21 / Angie / LOFT ECI / Urban Outfitters / Banana Banana / Limited / Calvin Klein / Forever 21 |
Also... this might be my favorite shopping list of all time, because I want all of it!! I only own two items so far (the LOFT and Limited tops), however, I am on a hunt for all of these or similar dupes very soon. I'm loving tops with a bohemian feel that have scarf print, crochet details and paisley prints, as seen in the top row. Crochet skirts are also on my wish list (I'm way late to this party) as well as the perfect yellow sheath top (peplum optional). I loved the Limited striped top when I tried it on so much, I had to have it!
Last but not least, I'm loving these Calvin Klein shoes but not the price tag so I will keep looking, and I've had my eye on this emerald graphic tee for a couple weeks and after this week's events, well, I just might take the plunge. (I spent four years living in the North End, Central Square and Belmont.) What items are on your wish list this month?
Looking for the in-seam length on the tag is a brilliant tip!
ReplyDeleteBeing 6 foot tall with an inseam of 36, I have to pay attention to shorts lengths. I am fit, but I find that no matter what, shorts shorter than 3 inch inseam do not look right on me. 4-5 inches is best.
ReplyDeleteI Styled my crochet skirt the other day with a flowy cropped sweater and booties!

This is such a great idea! Inseam is something I think a lot of people overlook.

My short inseams are between 2.5-5 inches. Generally, my work out shorts have shorter inseams. My hiking shorts are 5". But my shortest, 2.5, short has a really cute orange sailboat print on them. I like 4-5" best.
ReplyDeleteI think I like the length that you like the best J (4-ish inches)! The short shorts that used to work in high school just don't seem right now that I'm out of college haha. And by the way your outfit is adorable!! I love the colors :)

Have you heard about the Boston Strong shirts? While the green F21 one is cute, the proceeds from the sale of the Boston Strong shirts go towards helping the victims, which I think would really help to stand with them by actually helping them. I've already donated money to the victims fund, but if you are or your readers would like to really help, more information can be found here: http://inktothepeople.com/marketplace/ink-detail/3731
ReplyDeleteVery cool!! I don't really see the connection to the F21 - that is purely a fashion decision and has nothing to do with charity. But I LOVE the Boston Strong idea. I personally have separate budgets for clothes and charity each month and this month I donated directly to these two Boston victims!! ReplyDeleteI have the Forever 21 shirt (#2) but I don't know what to wear with it for work. Please buy it and show me how it's done! :-)

actually liking the shorts look better!
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'3'', so I love the 3 1/2'' shorts from Old Navy. My 5'11'' friend goes for the same shorts, but in the 5'' style.
ReplyDeleteI like 4 inch inseams best for me too! I am feeling too old to wear the 2 inch ones these days! LOL! Anyways, my philosophy is if you have to body to wear them, wear them while you can! YOu look great!
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend! xx Pip

I think I'm the odd duck, I prefer 2-3" inseams on shorts. Anything else (other than a Bermuda) is too much material for me. Even when I was little I would roll up my shorts.:-) At 35 and a mom I get away with the length by wearing twill cotton shorts, no cut offs or frayed edges and a khaki-esque flat front.
ReplyDeleteI have the same color skirt from BR and love it. Happy to see you pair it with a gold top. It gives me another idea of how to wear it. Thank you! I love the shorts in the photo above on you. You look fashionably comfortable and adorable. I prefer a longer short...I guess 6 inches just below my thigh. I am 5'4", curvy, 45 and gotta cover the winter white thighs. Lol!
ReplyDeletelove both versions of the look! the skirt is definitely my style

As far as shorts go, I JUST got the courage last year to wear shorts that are shorter than Bermudas. I hated my thighs, but I am slowing toning them and starting to feel more confident. I could never go shorter than 4" though, I'm jealous of your gorgeous gams!

ReplyDeleteI really love this outfit; so awesome that you can change it from skirt to shorts. I have a red pencil skirt and red shorts I will have to try it with! Also, I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect nude wedges and a grey blazer :)
