Today's Everyday Fashion: Hope

Inspiration: B. Jones Style

I watched in horror as news of the killings in Newtown, CT was released on Friday. It's hard to concentrate on clothes at a time like this, but I know from going through my own personal tragedies that an escape into fashion can be welcome. It's why we love the drama and fantasy. So today I present an outfit idea - a look with my new plaid blazer. Nothing earth-shattering, but I hope it gives someone an easy outfit idea, or just makes someone smile today. Would you wear a plaid blazer? How would you wear it?

Blazer: H&M, $15 (similar, similar)
Sweater: LOFT, $17 (similar, similar)
Pants: Target, $22
Belt: H&M, $20
Boots: c/o Chinese Laundry, $150
Purse: Karen Millen, gift (similar, vegan)
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $69 and $39
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79

  4. Mustard yellow is one of those colors people usually love or hate. I'm not a huge fan, but I really like how you used it in this outfit. The combination with the burgundy pants really makes it Fall-y.

  5. I saw those pants at the Target store and thought they were a beautiful color. Unfortunately, they did not have my size - glad you snagged a pair!

  6. I would definitely wear a plaid blazer, the problem is I can't ever find blazer's that fit my small frame.
Do you get yours tailored? What's the trick?

    Blessings!

  12. Great outfit and I would totally wear a plaid blazer. I think I would style it similar to how you have with a great pant and a simple top.

  15. Although green is most-often thought of as being "The Color Of Hope"............ (and I just absolutely  *l.o.v.e.*  green clothing items myself!!)............ whenever almost-incomprehensible (international/national/regional/local, or even personal) tragedies occur............ I find myself automatically "gravitating to" either my lavender/purple - OR to - my pink/fuchsia pieces (in my closet), just because those colors are maybe best (skin tone -wise) on me;  and also because others "'like me' in those colors," too.    Wearing those particular colors then helps me TO............ comfort family/friends/acquaintances, (particularly any little kids or elderly folks)............ who are in genuine  *need of*  being comforted, you know.    (I hope this makes sense, J.!!)

Soooo, your simple/stylish outfit today is (to me) just very comforting;  and *exactly* something I'd wear in either a (more casual) workplace............ while running errands............ making road trips............ to visit family/friends............ or just going out casually to dinner.    Even before I go out the door, I've found that *kind words*............ (i.e., to all in those specific areas, particularly to those who are upset)............ simply "come much easier" from me TO others in need, i.e., when I myself feel good/look good.    Your subdued, gorgeous plaid blazer is maybe The Classic "Homey" Piece To Wear............ the lovely, glowing colors of your golden mustard sweater and your deep burgundy jeans are both so *warm and inviting*;  and are (as you know!!) really "your" Fall/Winter colors............ and the "earthy, smooth feel" of your cognac leather purse and boots (I also like vegan leather)............ all actually *do* make me feel better today............ as my poor elderly aunt, (who is a nun, 2,560 miles away), is very gravely ill in ICU after emergency surgery, (with #2 family members there, by her side).    *Thank you*, J., for making my day, today............ (which, most-probably will have a sad ending)............ just a tiny bit easier to get through.    Thank you.

  19. J, I've been looking for the right pair of colored jeans all fall and honestly haven't found a really great pair that I like! And for the last few weeks, I've been afraid to buy a pair in fear that they won't transition into spring, meaning I'll only get a couple months of wear out of them. Especially when I really like colors like this, or emerald, or dark purple. Thoughts?

  20. Lynette, I definitely think you can get good wear out of them, definitely through May, and even in the summer. Burgundy corduroy pants are harder to transition but a light jean or jegging should still work with a sleeveless blouse in warmer weather.

  21. Rosanna, so sorry to hear about your aunt! Many prayers to you and your family. I'm honored to be able to make you a little less sad today.

  26. I've been craving a pair of red pants like the ones above, but in more of a trouser fit.  I love the look of a skinny pant, but my body type favors a more forgiving style.  Any ideas where to find a pair?
