I love my new navy baseball t-shirt, and I love my new camo skinnies, and I want to wear both non-stop. So it makes perfect sense to pair them together! :-) I wore the top outfit for a roadtrip to Tampa on Tuesday, and the bottom is an attempt to dress it up for a dinner or another occasion. I like the idea of wearing these boyish pieces with something more feminine like a statement necklace and/or heels, although I might try it with darker heels next time (like these). Which look is more your style?

Also... should I keep this dress? I got it for 50% off on Black Friday, and I'm wanting more sheath dresses that are work-appropriate and good for TV segments. I like that this one is "different" but I also feel like I might tire of the print after one wear. Would you keep it?

I think you could wear it to a spring time wedding, too or something. If it's half off and you wear it a few times, it's worth it I think. I can understand your concern tho cuz I think it might be hard to make as versatile as some of the other things you wear.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the first camo outfit... i think the casual look works better.
ReplyDeleteand the dress is cute! keeper :)

I really like the dress. It's a very flattering fit, the neckline is work appropriate as well as the length. The print is also really pretty and unique too. I say keep it! Heather
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is super cute! I wouldn't get tired of a dress like that, but I could see how one would. But it's mostly black, well-fitting, obviously appropriate for just about anything you could think of, and cheap. Those are my favorite categories for a dress to fit into. ;)
ReplyDeleteLynette @ lynette marie
love this casual look on you -- I've been looking for a baseball tee forever! xo

The dress is cute -- but NOT for TV segments. Solid, jewel tones work best on TV!
ReplyDeleteLovin those camo skinnies! I like both looks! @61060a1f090e3410acab38020543f247:disqus Could also be cute with a pair of converse!
ReplyDeletewww.beautyandbows.com
I think it's a beautiful dress and it fits your perfectly, but I wouldn't keep it -- it's too obvious a print and would be difficult to style with anything other than black accessories (i.e. heels, blazer, cardi, etc). Sure, you could pair it with other brights to play off the vibrant print, but I don't think I/you would reach for that option more than once, maybe twice..
ReplyDeleteI like both looks with the baseball t but I think my favorite would be the boots + the statement necklace:) I happen to love that dress on you and do think you should keep it. It looks expensive, fits you perfectly, is interesting and is long enough (which I know you have trouble finding). I love it on you.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is great- its very flattering, and not too boring. Most shift dresses for work are plain and one color, so adding a great fitting shift, with some color to it, to your wardrobe is an awesome idea. I say keep it for sure. I do think this dress will work for most seasons as well! I'm sure you can figure out other ways to dress it up or down too!
ReplyDeleteYou could paid that dress with different jackets and cardigans. I think it's darling. Looks great on you.
ReplyDeleteOliviamoone.blogspot.com
I absolutely love the dress and would keep it myself (the print reminds me of Prabal Gurung), but it's not worth it if you don't think you'd wear it more than once.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, but it's definitely going to be a challenge in the future to continue to style without repeating or making it look overdone. The shape of the dress is perfect, but it's a little too floral-y for TV spots. It'd be one of those dresses I'd hold onto but never end up wearing again... Save the money, return it and get a shift dress that would compliment your skin tone better!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!

I LOVE the more feminine look of the camo pants; yes, keep the dress!
ReplyDeletelook #1 with black pumps or ankle boots! I would die!

I love the first outfit! I have a baseball tee from Forever 21 too, but never thought to style it like that. The dress fits you so well and it is very different. Usually the price would make the decision for me if I was worried something was too trendy or unusual.
ReplyDeleteI love a great baseball top and the pants fit you like a glove. But you might wanna try pairing them with your black pumps instead of the brown ones. I think they'd go better with the top.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm not in love with the dress. It looks a little like an apron from the 50's to me...
I really like the first outfit. I think those pieces are best kept casual. In order to dress up the pants I would choose a different top but I'm not so sure how much that shirt can really be dressed up. I really do like the dress but I don't think it's very versatile and it's very trendy. It may look tired next season. I would return it if I were you, especially because you already have a mirror print top that you could work into your look, and pick up some more classic sheath dresses.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfits up top. But as for the dress...not feeling it. I'm a sales associate at Express and we currently have a similar one which I'm also not a fan of. It fits you great but the pattern is a bit off.
ReplyDeleteHow do you feel about the ruched sleeves on the baseball shirt? I have a feeling I wouldn't like them
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd return the dress. The print is interesting but it kind of reminds me of that sublimation print that was around for a bit and then disappeared. I see it as a trend that's over.. it was all over Asos.com and Kim Kardashian was wearing a similar dress but the degree to which it's so widely available makes it less unique. I can't really explain why I don't like it lol.
YES, keep the dress. The print is what makes it special, and you can always cover the top or bottom half and get a new top and new printed skirt for the price of one dress!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dress, it looks amazing on you! keep it!
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks beautiful on you, but it doesn't seem very versatile. I don't think you'd get alot of wear out of this, especially compared to the other pieces you own. I'd look for a more simple dress (with the same shape) that can be easily dressed up with accessories, blazers, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove the camo and baseball tee with either shoe but I agree a darker heel would be better like the one you're wearing with the dress or even Converse Chuck Taylors. Regarding the dress, I'd ask myself this: Is the quality worth the price? I can see this dress styled with a turtleneck underneath, with a chambray shirt open, with tights, without tights, tucked into a skirt, with a colored cardigan, with a colored sweater (I've been wearing cardigans backwards to add a bit of button detail up the back), with a blazer (I don't personally love blazers on me because I don't have a job that I dress up for and I'm petite so they dwarf me but you do). I also think this would look amazing with a black tulle skirt for a New Years party but you already have your dress. You could go retro with a white blazer ala Miami Vice, endless possibilities. I think you'll have to get creative but the length and fit is perfect on you so I guess it boils down to your gut and again quality/price. I will admit, at first blush, I didn't love it but after careful consideration (ha) I think it has a ton of styling options. Will you let us know?
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't give up on the cammie look. :) And that dress is GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteJ, I just recently discovered your blog via Pinterest and it has quickly become one of my favorites. You've inspired me to look at my own wardrobe in a fresh light...and now I'm planning on adding some pieces that will add even more ways to style what I have.
Cindy at Notes in the Key of Life
Oh, and the dress...honestly, I would keep it! There will be days when that splash of color will be so welcome...and I bet you'll get a lot of compliments.
ReplyDeletei like the dress i think you can wear it with a few different colored shoes or cardigans, blazers etc :)
ReplyDeleteI personally love the dress, but I love prints in general. It makes a classic feel like a very unique, modern piece and it is nice to have those kinds of dresses when you don't feeling like putting a ton of effort in or when you plain just don't know what to wear. That being said, I don't know how versatile it is for television - it is hard to repeat a print that loud without everybody realizing it is a repeat. However, if you are up for a challenge - I'd keep it! Not any help, I know :)
ReplyDeleteKeep the dress!! It's fabulous!

That dress looks gorgeous on you, I would definitely keep it!!

ENTER MY GIVEAWAY WORTH $500!!!
I loooove the dress! I want it for myself. Keep it!
ReplyDeleteThe dress obviously looks great on you. But, I know what you mean with prints being tough to repeat. I feel like it's really obvious if people see you in that same dress multiple times, but with more subtle prints or solids, they're easier to repeat/change up. If I want a print dress like that one, I usually try to think of *more than* one occasion I can plan to wear it for (my last one was for a friend's wedding and my grandma's 80th birthday party, two events with different sets of people). If I know that I have at least a couple of special occasions coming up that it will work for, I'll go for it. If not, I'm likely to feel that it wasn't worth the money.
ReplyDeleteThe other factor is, if it's really really a good deal, rules go out the window. :) Good luck!
Thank you Cindy and welcome to the blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteJessica, thank you for all the styling ideas! I agree that there are lots of options for layers, etc., I just always feel like with prints I personally tire of them and never want to wear them again. I love so many things about this dress but I'm thinking I will wind up returning it! (it was online only, so I had to order it to see it in person)
ReplyDeleteWhat size shirt did you get. Like the fit.
ReplyDeleteyou're always looking for longer dresses and this one is a good length!
ReplyDeleteEmily, I like the ruched sleeves! I always push up my sleeves like that anyway so might as well have it already done. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI got the size Small!
ReplyDeleteAgreed Megan - if it were $10, totally different story. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the camo look. I think the dress is a keeper, you could pair it with many different colored blazers, or a denim jacket to dress it down. Flats or heels. Plus, 50% off you can't beat it! I also think you are the best at reusing what you have and actually could wear this many times!
ReplyDeleteXO http://shesaidhesaid-fashion.blogspot.com/
That dress if so pretty & it looks great on you. It gives the perfect pop of color! Keep it!
ReplyDeleteLove! Keep! Reminds me of a Mary Katrantzou dress!
ReplyDeleteYes, I would keep it. It has a variety of colors that you could pair different jewelery and cardigans/blazers with. Also, it's long enough and work appropriate. Score.
ReplyDeleteI like the outfit with the heels and necklace! The boots and small necklace are a little too tomboy-ish. The heels and necklace really balance the look! Also I really like that dress! I feel like it could work for all seasons.
ReplyDeleteKeep the dress!
ReplyDeleteBoth outfits are not the best I've seen you do.
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly! "The best outfits" is definitely not what I'm striving for here. Openness, a look at even my bad fashion days, in other words - reality. We see enough perfect in the media already. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the dress J! I think you always pull off an outfit, but you should see if you can make it look like a different dress when you add other accessories/jackets to the outfit. Then it would look similar but like a totally different look!
ReplyDeleteMelanie,
ReplyDeleteJ! I am a huge fashionista and I have been following your blog for awhile now and I enjoy it so much!! You have great taste! I know for me, it is difficult to find dresses that are both multi-functional and timeless. I think you would regret returning this dress you ordered. You could wear it to work and then out with friends afterwards. It is a good length, it goes with so many things, it fits you great, and the print is beautiful. Don't second guess yourself, you ordered it for a reason!! And you got it on sale!! Keep it- you will get a lot of wear use out of it.
That is my opinion anyways. Keep up the fabulous work J!!
I love the Limited dress on you! I think the flower print is a fresh new take on the standard sheath dress (a silhouette that I love, BTW!). As others have mentioned, however, I think solids work better than prints on camera. But this could still be a great option for work and dressier outings.
ReplyDeleteI've been loving your site for months and have never commented, I don't think. Thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration. I'll weigh in now: I love the dress on you and would certainly keep it. But I think the camo and baseball top dressed up just look odd. I'd keep them casual.
ReplyDeleteI'd keep it! Try it with a skirt, or a top, to change up the look! Plus it fits well--I always have a hard time getting sheath-style dresses to fit everywhere :/
ReplyDeleteI've never commented before, but am motivated enough this time to say, "Keep the dress!" It looks great on you and is a beautiful version of the trend. I think it could be a bit more versatile than you think :)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be able to pull off that dress, but it looks great on you! :) Love the camo look too!!
ReplyDeleteLove this dress. I think it is so cute and you could definately wear it mutliple ways. Love the first look with the boots, I think it looks a little odd dressed up, the prints are so boyish that I just wouldn't wear heels but I love the boots!
ReplyDeleteI like the dress and would probably keep it since it looks so good on you. You can probably make it work in most seasons.
ReplyDeleteI like the camo and heels! The heels are not "predictable", yet they work! The boots are great too. :)
ReplyDeleteThe first look is more my style. Adorable.I like the dress, not my style but it's very nice. Looks really good on you.

Oh I really love the top casual baseball tee outfit. My biggest problem is trying to dress casual without looking like a sloppy college student who just woke up (I'm 31!).
ReplyDeleteThe casual look is more my style.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great on you. If the price was good, then keep it - I'm sure you'll find different ways to style it so you won't get bored e.g. with different jackets/cardis, also as a skirt, as a top...
Not a fan of the dress.
ReplyDeleteYes, love that dress! You can wear that year around!
ReplyDelete~L&W
I think the dress looks fantastic on you! It's amazing that it fits so well without any alterations, plus the fabric band at the waist will make you look amazing on camera. I know that you've said you tend to shy away from prints that you may tire of, but maybe some fun prints are just what you need to get out of your "style rut?" Sometimes it's great to have a bold print in your wardrobe that you know you can throw on in a jiffy and feel fabulous. Plus, you can add a belt, sweater, or jacket, change accessories, or wear it with booties like on the Limited website to give it a totally different look. I also love the mix of colors because I think you can make it all-season with the right styling, but what really matters is that you love yourself in it! :)
ReplyDeleteI would probably say no to the dress. I fits you beautifully but I think you have a valid point - the pattern will grow old and you may tire of it quickly. Of course, if it's a steal, then who cares ;) But at $50 (which from what I understand is the price), I would pass. Just my two cents!
ReplyDeletehttp://fashionedible.blogspot.com
Love the dress! Except... the placement and color of one part of that flower looks like a diagram of your lady parts that you would see in your gyno's office. So, love the design and concept and symmetry of this dress, but the designer should really rethink the choice of print.
ReplyDeletei really love this outfit! (so much that i bought some camo skinnies... ah!) hey i was just wondering if you have this and i don't see it or if not, if you have ever considered having a search option where your followers could search "camo skinny pants" or whatever and then see all the posts you have including that item? sometimes i'm curious to see how you reworked different pieces but i can't find without searching through whole blog, post by post. thanks for all the great outfit inspiration! show more skinny camo ideas now!! lol :)
ReplyDeleteLove your camo skinnies & baseball tee - and both looks are great!
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great on you but I think would be too busy for TV.

Love the top look. I like the idea of the camo skinnies with heels, but maybe with a different top? The fit of the dress is fantastic on you. You could definitely wear the dress different ways, but isn't print not so great for tv? However, it's a print that isn't easily camouflaged, so not sure you could wear it often.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress - keep it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress! I'd keep it!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and would definitely keep it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of camo pants but I have to admit - those look fabulous on you!! Love their design and how they fit you! I love the first outfit with them more, and as someone said - I like the idea of heels with these pants but then with different(less "sporty") top... at least single colored jersey top, or V-neck sweater, blouse...
ReplyDeleteAnd the dress... I loved it when you first posted it, interested print... and now when I see it on you - it fits you perfectly, looks great on you BUT - am I the only one who thinks that this kind of print looks like an apron? I'm sorry but it kind of looks like white printed apron over black dress to me... Maybe it doesn't look like that in person... Bottom line if you like it and plan to wear it to various different occasions than go for it :) It really does fit you great!
I say keep the dress, it is different and looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in the minority, but I'm not crazy about the print. I would struggle with ways to wear it
ReplyDeleteNope.....looks like a tablecloth.......take it back and invest in a solid color and dress it a hundred different ways......
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love the baseball tee/camo pants combo. Amazing. Regarding the dress, I didn't like it when I first saw it on The Limited's website-- it reminded me too much of a kaleidoscope. After seeing it on you, though, I really like it. I see what you mean about getting bored with it-- I feel like you should return it and wait until it goes on a better sale (I have a feeling it will).
ReplyDeleteI Love the dress...I think it's a keeper :)
ReplyDelete*I've just started my own fashion blog, I'd love it if you all would stop by...thanks so much! helloholly1.blogspot.com
I love that sheath dress! I think it's playful and colorful, leaving lots of options of accessories without being overboard. I also don't think the pattern is overly trendy - I personally wouldn't get sick of it right away.
ReplyDeleteNo to the camp pants with that shirt AND heels. Heels with a dressy top maybe, or maybe some of those tennis shoe heels but the whole second look is a bit off.
ReplyDeleteI love sheath dresses, but would pass on this one. I think that it looks too much like you are wearing an apron. I think of the cutouts were a solid color with the black, it would be a winner. The fit is good.
ReplyDeleteI like the first ensemble of the baseball tee. Though this sheath dress is not something I would personally gravitate to, it does look pretty on you. If you think you are going to tire of it, then follow your instinct.
ReplyDeleteNever knew army skinnies could be so versatile :) Love your takes on it! Also, I think you should keep the dress! It's definitely very unique & would be fun to play with - obsessed with those captoe shoes!
ReplyDeletehttp://perpetuallycaroline.blogspot.com
I think you should keep the dress. It looks great on you and is so unique. I would love to have a dress like this in my wardrobe. It may not be something you wear every week, but it seems like the type of dress you'd be glad to have in your closet when you just need a good go-to dress.
ReplyDeleteI love the cut & fit... but I'm not in love with the print on the bottom part. If it was a solid color it would be beyond perfect. I say, if you're feeling 'iffy' about it, send it back!
ReplyDeleteLove the cut and fit. Not a fan of the busy print. :)

[nat in love]
Love the casual camo look. The dress is okay, you look great in everything it seems, but I'm not a huge fan of this one, it fits good, but I think you would tire of the print and you can't put it on repeat too much since its such a unique print. :)
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of the print- a little too trendy for my taste! I know you like to keep it positive on here so my advice would be to return it! :) For the price you could find another awesome flattering dress that could be worn again and again and certainly be utilized in other various ways based on the accessories!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress and those pumps with it! I have the same ones from Chinese Laundry in nude! They are one of my favorite pumps in my closet!
ReplyDelete
