Today's Everyday Fashion: Wool Pants

If my memory serves me correctly, I've had these pants since high school. Which was a long time ago. (whoa momma) They are still holding up well though, and I love the fit (they have flap back pockets) so no reason to get rid of them in my book! (To see my post on what to keep and what to toss, go here.) I saw this poster on the wall at Banana Republic and absolutely loved it. My other favorite stores for snapping photos are definitely J.Crew and Express. What retail stores inspire you the most?

Inspiration photo: Banana Republic (snapped with my phone)
Cardigan: H&M, $20
Shirt: Forever 21, $22
Belt: Forever 21, $5
Pants: American Eagle, really old
Shoes: c/o Express, $33
Earrings: Forever 21

  3. I can't believe your pants are from your high school days!  They look fabulous on you :)  Mustard and red is one of the best color combos ever.

When I was in 8th grade we did a talent show and we wore poodle skirts. I found it and tried it on for a Halloween party as an adult and it still fit!  Talk about a serious happy dance, ha ha!   Heather

  4. Speaking of keeping things. Any suggestions on how to wear holiday-geared styles after the holidays? I'm thinking, in particular, of a cute taffeta/jacquard pencil skirt. Is it a style no-no to wear this after new years?

  8. Today I'm wearing a pair of wool pants I bought when I worked at the Gap in college TEN years ago.  I'm shocked they still fit honestly, because I'm definitely not the same size I was at age 19.  I also have 2 other pairs of wool pants I got at the same time, and I get compliments on them all the time!  These 3 pairs are definitely my favorite winter work pants - and as long as they continue to fit, I'll keep wearing 'em b/c they never seem to go out of style and are so comfortable and warm!  I love today's outfit too, by the way!

  9. Jcrew and Banana are always great inspirations for me!  I go to their websites and look at different looks they put together!  I love this look.  And I see nothing wrong with keeping pants from high school!  My favorite pair of black pants are from sorority recruitment my freshman year of college!  Love them!

  11. I think "holiday" wear extends way past new years! I keep wearing those types of clothes through February, easily.

  13. I just took a pair of wool capris from college (think Express a la 1998) and had them "remade" by my tailor-- recreated a look from a new Anthro catalog (my favorite retail styling source). Now they have a modern cuff and stitch pleating up the leg. Everything old really is new again! :)

I love that you have classic favorite pieces that you keep for a long time. I love that you have been changing up the style of pants you are showing on the blog lately, too! J Crew and Banana Republic are my favorites, too!

  16. In your great blogpost of March 29, 2011, I just love how you referred to wearing mustard and red together............ (i.e., simply to spice up basic black and white neutral pieces in your closet)............ as "MUSTARD & KETCHUP"!!    For the same mustard and red color combo, my own *c.h.u.n.k.i.e.r.* and *c.l.u.n.k.i.e.r.* ~~ (and much less classy!!) ~~ Outfit Inspiration probably would've just come from some yellow corn CHIPS & red tomato SALSA;  or from a bowl of RED BEANS & CORNBREAD, though, (haha)!!

Grey and white paired together with mustard and red----(as you so skillfully did in your outfit, Above!)----is very *unique* and absolutely *gorgeous*, J............ and I (personally) think your outfit's even prettier than the one in the poster on the wall at Banana Republic!!

  17. Very cool outfit!  Speaking of clothes from high school, I found an old dress that my mother made me when I was 16, which would make it half as old as me :-/  I haven't worn it for so long and I love it!  It's like getting a new dress for free :-)

  18. This is one of my favorite looks. I definitely enjoy that I have been bringing all of my skinny belts out from the back of my closet that have been in hibernation for ages thanks to your encouragement. I appreciate the tailored looks you put together that remind me what I can mix up in my own closet and present at work. I definitely fell into a rut (and everyone who sees my closet's maxed capacity knows I should never be in a rut) and thank you for the reminder for me to be creative with my own wardrobe!
