Today's Everyday Fashion: Black and Brown

This shirt is black and off-white, so my first instinct was to pair it with black like I did in this outfit. But then I saw the left photo on Anthropologie.com and realized that it would also look great with browns and greens! Mixing black and brown is one of my favorite color combos when done right. My styling secret: Pair black with a yellow-toned browns (like my cognac shoes and belt) for a winning look. What doesn't work? Chocolate brown and black. Just don't do it. :-)

  3. Awesome! I am wearing Black and Brown (yellow toned) today too. :)

Since discovering your blog back in November, I have taken a new interest in my wardrobe, especially accessorizing. I have received more compliments in the last few months than I had in years before. Thanks J!

  5. I like this outfit a lot! It seems like Stacy and Clinton find ways to make darker browns and black work. I'm just not knowledgeable enough to figure it out yet!

  8. love this look. That mustard yellow is a great color on you!
I personally LOVE chocolate brown and black together...the trick is you have to keep it sold...not prints. So solid black dress with a chocolate brown braided belt cinched at the waist and choc brown boots is one of my favorite "go to's"

  9. I totally agree Carly - your outfit sounds adorable! I think a dark brown belt would work great. I was more thinking of a chocolate brown pencil skirt and black shirt, which makes me shudder a little bit.

  11. Love it. I wore a very similar outfit a couple of days ago (here: http://momshavestyle2.blogspot.com/2011/02/mustard-yellow.html), but yours has a very different feel. I love how fashion can be so different from person to person!

  13. On my monitor the shirt looks like it is a bit more charcoal/white and the pants look grey too which I thought was a great idea, its original and unexpected. Then I read that its really black and its not like I can see the difference but between you and me I think I like the idea of grey better than black. (I wish you could see it on my monitor, it looks really good!)

  14. I know it varies by screen but the pants are army green. The shirt is black, BUT it has tiny little stripes which almost make it look gray!
