Today's Everyday Fashion: Old Favorites

New clothes are amazing, but nothing gives my heart joy like finding new ways to love what I already own. I've had this skirt for a few years, and was surprised to find how fresh it feels this spring. I've styled it many different ways, but never paired with an orange red top, and I like the bold contrast. I'm also totally tempted by skirts #5, 9 and 11 below, thanks to my search for similar floral skirts online. How do you make old favorites feel new again? Would you wear a floral skirt?

Skirt: J.Crew, $48
Shoes: Bandolino/TJ Maxx, $22 (similar, similar)
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot 1, 2
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot 1, 2, 3, 4

  2. Too funny- I just bought #6 on clearance at Ann Taylor yesterday to wear to a wedding this weekend, with a bright aqua silk blouse, from J Crew no less!

  3. I've never followed a fashion blog before, my weakness is mostly for home decor :) But I've been following you for a few weeks now ever since your code got me a great deal on a necklace from ILY and I'm just lovin' it!! Your style is so fun but not so over the top that I can't relate to it. And seeing that your outfits can be put together without spending oodles of money makes me feel like I can decorate my house and myself and still afford groceries ;)

  6. I love 4 and 5! I can't really afford new clothes right now so I was thinking of sewing up a floral skirt like 4!

  8. You, my dear, are my fashion prophet! I have been questing for a particular floral skirt forever. I had very specific requirements as to shape and color. Your choice #5 is closest to my desired shape and your choice #7 on a white background is closest to my desired color. I have yet to find it.

I've styled the floral skirts I own like so:

  10. My favorite is #7, actually it reminds me of my floral pants! I only have 1 floral skirt, but it has a more relaxed, casual vibe... I might need a more formal one.. You look great, as always!

  13. Hey J, from the photo, it looks like your necklace is one of the disc initial necklaces (am I right?) If so, I was wondering where you got it. Thanks for the help and love the blog!!!

  14. Diana, the chain and letter initial "J" are from Stella & Dot. The larger disc and clear stone are c/o Jenny Present. She makes custom charms - mine says "Sierra Leone" in honor of the mission trip I went on last summer!

  18. I think that floral skirts scream spring and warm weather, so they are my favorite type of skirt to wear.

  19. I'm not much of a floral person but I do have a floral dress. I love repurposing old things either by altering them to look different or my new fav, flipping them inside out to create a new look. I just did this with a blazer I had and it looks completely different!

  20. Well, I own the Loft skirt you pictured (#7), so yes, I wear floral skirts! ;) I love wearing something feminine and floral with something structured or graphic. Fun way to have contrast and make an old item feel more trendy.

  21. Hi!! In most of your outfits you're wearing that gold pendant, but I never see it tagged. I LOVE it and want something to layer with all my necklaces! I am independent stylist for Stella & Dot too, is the monogram charm??

  22. Love your style! For some reason I would love some more white in this outfit. Maybe white shoes or a white top?

  23. I like this print because I am still digging mustard. J that skirt is the perfect length for you. I makes you look you sophisticated and classy. Leave the overly revealing length to the school girls, they'll figure out how leaving a little to the imagination is so much more sexy than letting it all show. Great look that would work for so many occasions.

  24. Nannette, it's really hard to make ANY rules that you can apply across the board and that work for everyone when it comes to an "art" like fashion. That said, I personally thought "tight=sexy" in college and now you won't find any fitted shirts in my closet, so I majorly shifted gears there. Short lengths though? I'm all for them. It's about proportions, and personally they are perfect for my body type and age. I honestly think a loose shift dress above the knee flatters most ages though! Short lengths don't have to be bad if the clothing item is loose and long sleeve, just one example among many others. :-)

  25. Jennine, I wore those colors with this skirt a ton a couple years ago, so this post was about a totally new way of wearing the skirt and making an old favorite feel new again!! :-)

  26. Christine, the chain and the initial charm are from Stella. The larger disc you are seeing though is from Jenny Present! :-)

  27. I love that you posted this! Because I am a young mom with 3 children born w/in 3 Yrs of eachother and in the mix, I forgot how to dress! So I stumbled across your blog in dec and have been "studying" so to speak. I finally got some $ to go shopping at my favorite store, Maurice's and bought a :::drum roll::: floral skirt w/ crochet & leather belt,, nude platform heals, a nude cardigan, and a more statement-ish necklace. It felt do great having direction again! (AND I can nurse in this outfit, that's been a hard about fashion for me; I've been pregnant or/and nursing since 2008!) Anyway,at this shopping trip, I definitely pulled all my favorite things I've learned from your website together. http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?expcsl=1082392%7C%7C&productId=17224746
