Mint + cherry red = I'm loving this fun, retro combination! I used an old shirt to capture the same vibe as my inspiration photo, since I didn't have any actual cherries in my closet. I found some more literal prints in my online search, below, and think they are adorable though. Would you wear a cherry print?

Love the mint pants! Can't wait to get my pair this month!
ReplyDeleteI would personally not wear an actual cherry print. It reminds me too much of my middle school years. I love the color combination though!
ReplyDeleteI love the red/mint combo!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great top! Great colour combo! It really is amazing to me what awesome combinations you come up with! I adore anything with cherries, but have just realised I do not own a single cherry! Not even a pendant or earrings (gasp!).
ReplyDeletei don't think i'd wear cherry, but the red and mint, i can get behind!

Isn't funny what a single word can do? "Cherry" is reminiscent of retro glam but add "blossom" to it, and instantly it's become exotic and Asian-inspired. I love both iterations of cherries and now I must be on the lookout for a cherry print. Bet the thirft stores have got tons!

I love this outfit! However, I would avoid actual cherry print because of its underlying sexuality. Mostly, I dislike that so much with cherries is designed for very young (6-12 year old) girls and it highlights their "virginal purity" and "value". It's just another way that we sexualize children in our society.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Katy, I have NEVER heard that before! Thanks for respectfully sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove that Maricel, very true!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've been brave enough to go for an actual red with mint! Last week I used a pinkish coral blazer, which I loved!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it *interesting* to ponder that what's "fashionable" in the past............ (e.g., mint + cherry red!)............ is considered "retro" today; and what's "fashionable" now, will probably then be considered "retro" in the future??!! (If you think I'm a slow learner, I think you're right, haha!!)
ReplyDeleteAlthough you don't have any cherry-prints in your closet, J., I think YOUR really *g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.* outfit could definitely "hold it's own" with............ ANY of the (literal) cherry-print pieces from your online search!! I've always loved cherry BLOSSOMS; so the last item in the 2nd row, Above............ i.e., Dillard's "Penelope" Women's Sleeveless Cherry Blossom Blouse, (from the Alex Marie Promenade collection), in mint//deep-cerise polyester crepe de Chine, with a *silver*-toned, studded spread collar and a button front............ would be a *great* sleeveless blouse that might also (?) even look nice as a casual vest, too............ (i.e., since this edgy, abstract-print blouse has *silver*-toned collar studs, just LIKE a vest does!!)............ with the blouse then~~as an open vest~~maybe (?) being worn with a simple scoop tank; and over either shorts and/or jeans!!
While I personally wouldn't wear it, I do think that bathing suit top is cute! Also found it interesting to read Katy's view on it.
ReplyDeleteSo great looking, love the combination of the pale aqua and red......very unpredictable but so chic.
ReplyDeleteMint and Cherry?! So Fun! Great inspiration photo!

Ummm that's a pretty broad statement to say that anything with cherry print has underlying sexuality...and wearing cherries sexualizes our children?! That's like saying wearing blue makes girls boyish or pink makes boys girlie. Gimme a break and lighten up Katy!
ReplyDeleteCherries are such a great inspiration, that's such a cute print.I love the bold red with the minty pastel, so pretty!!

Not sure i would wear a cherry print. I think I might be to old actually. But.... I do think it could be great as an accessory piece- like a belt or scarf with cherries on it? It looks cute as a button on you though!
ReplyDeleteOMG - I LOVE this outfit! One of my all-time favorites! You rock it!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! By the way, any chance you'll be posting dressier outfits soon? I need ideas for this upcoming wedding season!
ReplyDeleteLove these colors together, so bright and cheerful :-) Definitely a work day outfit.
ReplyDeleteIt IS a retro color combo! How fun!!

That is really cute. I wonder if I could reverse it with red dots on bottom and mint on top? I look awful in red.
ReplyDeleteSilly me. Here all this time I just thought cherries meant FRUIT. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this color combo - it's cute when decorating too! And I think the cherry motif will always evoke a very cute vibe :)

Cherry has long been associated with virginity; i.e. "losing your cherry"
ReplyDeleteI love the cherry inspiration!
