Today's Everyday Fashion: Colorblock Button Up

Inspiration: Jessica Simpson Collection

New purchases: do you wear them right away, or do you save them? I normally wear things right away, but I've been saving this colorblock button down for a couple months now. My theory is that there are so many things I could possibly wear it with, it was hard to pick just one! Regardless, I'm digging the end result of this catalog re-creation and plan to brainstorm even more ways to wear it. How would you wear this top?

Leather jacket: Victoria's Secret, $257 (vegan, vegan)
Shirt: TJ Maxx, $15
Pants: Target, $22 (similar, similar, similar, similar)
Necklace: My Stella & Dot website, $138
Shoes: Chinese Laundry c/o (same)
Purse: Michael Kors, Santa
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot website 1, 2
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website 1, 2, 3

Express / Kohl's / Go Silk
Free People / Quiksilver / Express

  1. Love that shirt, and the Stella & Dot necklace.

  2. Like the look, but I think a belt could help this look more pulled together.
Also, I know you aren't into what things are called but technically, that shirt isn't a button down (button down shirts are the ones with buttons that hold the collar down, that's a button up shirt...)

  3. I love your shirt. I have a similar one and this is how I wore it, had to dig through a lot of posts to reach it but here it is for you. :) http://fuss.co.in/voices/

  4. this is a great look on you! love the blouse and the color of those pants! x

  5. The outfits running through my mind are endless.  This top would look awesome with pencil skirts, jeans, colored pants, oh my goodness!  A denim jacket maybe?  I love it.  I'm also loving the versatility of this look!

  6. Oh that is the most adorable pair with those maroon colored pants, LOVE!!

  7. I have a colorblock top just like that from H&M and wore it with pink skinny jeans...definitely need to add a black jacket on top now though!

  8. love the oxblood pants :)

  9. I'm loving the end result.

I don't wear everything right away, which is a sign that I probably need to stop buying things.  I'm glad I didn't wear my mint Express blouse right away though, because it turns out they restocked it online so I got it, another blouse, and olive skinnies for an average of $29 each. Phew that was a close one.

I'm also of the mentality that I shouldn't "waste" a cute outfit on a day where I don't need one. That's a holdover mentality from college/when I didn't have as vast of a wardrobe (before I started working full time). So I definitely need to get rid of that mentality because I could waste a cute outfit every day now and not run out of things to wear.

  10. Love your outfit. I like to wear what I buy right away. It's like getting a present!!! :) Love the top and how much your look looks like the picture. I like yours better. I would pair this top with trouser jeans and a blazer or under a sweater.

  11. I can't save new purchases! I get so excited I want to wear it all right away! Your outfit is so much cuter than the inspiration and I am loving those shoes :) Good job!

  12. Gorgeous top!  I'd wear it with everything, lol.  Seems really versatile!  I vary back and forth; sometimes I wear new things right away and sometimes I forget about them for a bit. xD

  13. Ohhhh I love those shoes and they are on sale now! It's almost like I HAVE to buy them now lol

  14. You did an amazing job recreating this look!

  15. I love the way you wore this shirt. I'm a fan of the color of the pants too. I think it would look really cute tucked into a printed skirt for spring.

  16. This is one of my favourite looks - it's simple but so chic.

  17. This is such an effortlessly cute look. I like to wear things right away because unless it's a major event (wedding/holiday), why save it?

  18. That top would go with absolutely anything!! I'd love pairing it with a really loud patterned skirt :)

  19. I found this on the clearance rack at TJMAXX for $10!

  20. Love this look on you :)  This is great colour block top which is so versatile.  I have this kind of top and I have worn it in a similar way - here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/fall-suiting-burgundy-with-contrast-trim.html; with cobalt jeans - here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/early-fall-attire-creme-and-royal-blue.html, and with leggings - here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/10/fall-attire-leather-and-bows.html

  21. *Almost* any purchase from TJ Maxx is a good one in my book :)  I feel like there are endless ways to wear this: casual with jeans and black pumps, dressy with a skater skirt, tights and ankle boots, or even with black jeans and bright colored pumps. Love versatile tops like this!

  22. I recently purchased a top just like this from Kohls that has a cutout in the back across the shoulder blades! I wore it buttoned up with a black pencil skirt and a sock bun. Love the versatility

  23. Awesome! I love the gold tipped shoes!

  24. I wore a vintage shirt that looked a lot like that tuked into a black pencil skirt with black boots and a shimmery pink statement necklace.

  26. Love this look on you! As for new items, if I don't wear something in the first month I buy it, it's probably a sign I should take it back. Not that I'm always disciplined about that rule :)

  27. Great look! I love the classic color block blouse with the burgundy jeans, but I love it much more without the coat.
