Today's Everyday Fashion: Winter Colors

Inspiration: WhoWhatWear

From the moment I spotted this inspiration photo, I knew I wanted to try it. The silhouette is not something I can see myself wearing, but the color scheme is one of my favorites in the summer and I liked how she made it cold-weather appropriate. I gave it a try and wore it for Christmas errands last week. Do you think these colors work in the winter?

  1. J, I love the color scheme and the pop of blue in the necklace really adds the oomph to the outfit!
I had a question.. Is there any way you can layer a sweater over a sweater and make it seem right. For example a short sleeved sweater top (not bulky) under a sweater vest. Sometimes I require a little more warmth than a simple sweater top but I never know how to pull it off. HELP!

  2. Great for winter!  I like pairing mustard with warmer colors too but never thought to add the pop of turquoise! I'll try it out

  3. I definitely think this is cold-weather appropriate! I think the boots really anchor it as "fall or winter" and keep it from being too summery, despite the colors. Love the turquoise necklace too! :)

  4. I love this pairing.  I love mustard yellow anything and when paired with white for winter, it's totally winter appropriate.  I did an outfit similar to this but wore navy blue under the blazer.  Your necklace is the perfect color to compliment!  Heather

  12. To me, this outfit screams fall. The muted colors with the bright turquoise kinda remind me of a Native American look. This isn't something that I would wear, but you rock this! I DO have a question for you, though. I'm IN LOVE with those turquoise and teal statement necklaces but I have a problem finding them with a silver metal instead of a gold metal. I never wear gold but I want one of these so badly! My fiancé found me a small version of a statement necklace but I want a huge one and just don't know where to look! Help?

  13. The way you interpreted your Inspiration Photo with your own soft ivory, mustardy-brown, and milk-chocolate brown pieces - (with a touch of turquoise!!) - is just............ *wow!!* -ingly  c.r.e.a.t.i.v.e.  for cold weather, J.!!    Cold weather here, (i.e., Pennsylvania: brrrr!!), would probably have me additionally wearing SOCKS with this pretty outfit, so my feet wouldn't FREEZE even more (haha!!), although I'm not sure whether I'd wear............ ivory socks;  brown socks;  OR nude socks, i.e., considering the tiny little bit of both upper feet that actually do "show" (with booties)!!

(Incidentally, when I look at this color palette, the DESSERT that comes to mind............ i.e., French Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Caramel Sauce and Milk Chocolate Sprinkles!!............ maybe really isn't "cold-weather appropriate" now............ although my husband and I would simply *heat* the Caramel Sauce up a little bit............ and THAT "problem" would INSTANTLY be solved, haha!!)

  14. I'm so glad you said that "The silhouette is not something I can see myself wearing, but the color scheme is one of my favorites ".  Often I'll see a picture and don't really like the particular items, but love the color combination-and thats what I try to copy. I've found that when showing pictures to friends, they are too literal and think a picture has to be copied exactly. Thank you for agreeing that it doesn't!
