Today's Everyday Fashion: Outfit Shortcuts

I love Zoe Saldana's wool coat and matching booties. Her ensemble looks great, and made me realize I have a wool jacket and booties that go well together, too. I kept the theme of her outfit and added cobalt jeans and an oatmeal sweater in today's look, but my jacket + bootie combo could be used over and over again with different jeans and tops in colors such as oxblood, gray, navy, mustard, ivory, black or olive. I call these "outfit shortcuts" and can be virtually anything in your closet - bottoms and shoes that go well together, a cardigan and necklace, etc. What are some outfit shortcuts in your closet?

  3. I feel like you get so many cute jackets from H&M! I need a few new blazers (they seem to be lacking in my wardrobe and I always wish I had one). You look so great!

  5. I love this wool blazer!  It looks great with the cobalt jeans.  My shortcuts are pencil skirts and heels.  They can be worn in all seasons just by switching tops and jewlery.  Heather

  9. I love the Jacket Boot combo but I live in the Caribbean so I find my go to are a cute pair of sandals and my sunhat. I can't wait for summer in the states to see your warm weather outfits. I have such a hard time coming up with something to ware when you start sweating just leaving your house!

  10.  I love your re-created outfit;  and also your term "Outfit Shortcuts," too, J. ............ (which actually goes beyond the "Matching Purse And Shoes" concept of the past)!!

From my dear youngest sister, I have a silky, 3/4-sleeve, narrow-V-neck, RED top............ printed with a few stylized WHITE dandelions (??)............ which I like to wear with a small pair of handcrafted, fan-shaped, RED-and-BLACK drop earrings, (i.e., made of metallic-red tube beads and glossy-black seed beads).    Amazingly, the top and earrings go well together;  and I've worn this "Outfit Shortcut" with different neutral bottoms and shoes.    On a gray/dreary, Late Fall day or Winter day in Pennsylvania, this *particular* outfit combo also seems to (visibly!!) make others happy when they see it, too!!

(As in your Friday, 11/16/12 post), *Good Luck* to you on your TV Appearance this morning, J. ............ i.e., "KC Live on Monday 11/19 at 10 a.m. on channel 41 (KSHB)"!!

  11. Does this mean that if your jacket were, say, a light shade of brown or tan, you wouldn't pair your boots with them? I have a similar pair of booties but am not sure if I can wear them with a top that doesn't match. What do you think? Help me out? Thanks :)

  12. Love your blog! My shortcut would be a cardigan & black flats. People have been sweet & complimented my style but don't seem to realize that it's just my basic uniform ;) it's amazing what you can do with accessories!

  13. I wore a very similar outfit the other night to watch movies with a friend. Oatmeal cableknit sweater, tan riding boots, but added colbalt skinnies to add a little something to my casual outfit. This time of year, I bascially live in sweaters & boots. Today, I'm spicing it up by wearing a sweater dress, scarf, tights & boots to run errands. Yay, for change!

  14. Love this outfit. My shortcut outfits consist of a white t-shirt, cardigan and skinny jeans and boots. I am totally in the wearing a button shirt underneath my sweaters phase. I think its inspired by the weather outside and i love wearing a blouse with skinny jeans and some sexy heels and great statement necklace.

  16. Kate, yes I definitely think you can wear that!! :-) In fact, I prefer it when things aren't an exact match. Outfit shortcuts are just items that work well together, they don't have to be the same color. :-) Hope this helps!

  29. I love how put-together and effortless your outfit is.  Thinking about how I dress I would say blazer + pumps would be my short cut - specifically my black blazer and pointy-toe leopard pumps.  These two are default items for me.  Put anything in between - jeans or pants of any colour and a tee or simple blouse and it really works.

  30. The size 2 buttoned but I couldn't wear a thick sweater under it, so I got a size 4!

  31. I think that the Shoes color always have to match with the upper outfit. It would increase grace. I also always prefer this dressing .. Prepare Now Outfitters

  32. Honestly I find everyday fashion so much harder than finding a good dress for a special occasion.  Everyday fashion takes a lot more work because it's a constant look that you might have to keep for stretches at a time. So thank you for your advice and input on this one.
