Today's Everyday Fashion: Bad to Better

The old outfit photo, left, makes me cringe. Fashion is fickle and it seems that I am too, because often something I wore last year, I'm not into wearing the same way this year. I still love this graphic tee, and like the idea of wearing it with a blazer so I came up with a new and improved version of last year's outfit. The longer, fitted blazer is more streamlined, the statement necklace adds a sophistication, and the pumps add a feminine touch to the rock-n-roll theme. Do you ever go back and improve old outfits?

  1. I actually only just recently pinned your 'bad' outfit as I bought some purple jeans and was looking for inspiration! I like both looks. But I know what you mean. I have stuff lurking in my closet that I should part with as they just don't make me feel the way they used to!

  2. Hi J! =D I lovee your new outfit, but I don't see what was wrong with the other one either! I like them both, and you always manage to pull off anything you style so well! I hope you had a wonderful weekend of shopping! If you still need any info on codes/deals, I just need a very long post on coupons/sales =)

PS.  I love the cap toe heels so much, and to answer your question, YES.  I definitely revisit past attempts to try and improve them!

  3. I agree - the black longer jacket streamlines the outfit. And the necklace adds so much character.
    Love pic 2.
Would love to see the grey top, black blazer combo with the purple jeans - i think black, grey and purple would be cool!

  4. Ooo I think it would be cute if you try the black with the purple pants now! Just curious.  The grey jacket and grey boots are too much for me too.

  5. You're lucky it takes you a whole year to fall out of love with an outfit - I'm not crazy about some of the stuff I wore this week! Blogging is a game changer as far as having to reeeeeeally look at what you're wearing. I definitely prefer the new version of your outfit, but I think it's so funny - whenever you're like "here are my outfit fails," I always sort of do the puppy-dog-head-tilt-to-one-side thing like hey, I'd take it! ;)

  8. i like the black blazer with the shirt...makes the black letters on the shirt stand out.  the gray blazer/shirt combo kinda washes each other out.

  10. Your improvement looks amazing.  So much more edgier..love it.  I looove your shoes.
I have been in a situation where I copied an inspiration, and it looks so much better which some tweaks, which I end up doing the second time around.  I think sometimes we see an inspiration on a different body type and it just does not work if another body type copies it.  Also, sometimes I find that copying a colour palette from an inspiration does not always work, and the style of clothes also have to be copied as well to successfully achieve the look.coverupchic.blogspot.ca

  13. I like this concept..it allows you to up your outfit and get an extra wear out of the same clothes. And I just bought those Chinese Laundry pumps but in the nude! They are gorge!

  17. haha, i think we all do that! look at old photos of us, and cringe at our fashion choices. :) I think the old outfit was too matchy-matchy, while the new one is edgy and chic. And I am loving those cap toe heels!!!! Definitely an improvement. :)

  18. I agree with you on the upgrade. I think it also helps that the blazer is a different color, but works with the t since the font is the same color. I also like the heels a lot more than those booties because the bit of skin showing elongates your legs.

Your hair has been looking beautiful lately! I really like that color on you.

  19. Thank you! I stopped dying my hair just over a year ago and I'm surprised how much I love the natural color! :-)

  20. Haha Samantha, I'm the same way! I hate when you put on an outfit in the morning and by the end of the day, you don't like it anymore.

  21. I totally agree!! The new outfit with the purple jeans from photo #1 would also work!

  22. Thanks Sharon! I love the color combo in #1 too! The new outfit would work with the purple jeans, or if you did shoes in a different color that could work, too!

  23. def the new one! I love your heels- totally make the outfit come together!

  24. Totally unrelated...but I'm having a tough time deciding what to do with the online JCrew sale.  They are offering 25% off for the rest of the day today.  Any idea if they are going to up their sale tomorrow for Cyber Monday, or would you recommend buying today?

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's a tough call Melissa. I don't want to recommend waiting and then have there be no promos tomorrow. It's Cyber Monday though and I think most retailers participate, so I'm thinking there has to be a promo of some sort, and might even be better.

  26. The lines of the upgrade outfit are much more flattering. I really love the pumps too! The gold-capped toe complements the deep red jeans.

  27. The one on the right is definitely an improvement! I haven't been blogging that long, but I can totally see myself revamping outfits in the future!

  29. Amazing how much better the second one looks - lighting, background, and outfit! I'm not usually into graphic tees but this one is super cute :) Very nice outfit!

  30. Although I don't think your first outfit is that "bad" at all, the second one (as you said) is better-styled!!    Your hips are (enviably!!) slender;  but I never realized, J., just how much that "horizontal line"............ (i.e., when your blazer and shirt are the SAME length over jeans, as in the first outfit)............ draws your eye from hip-to-hip, thereby "widening" your hips.    With the "horizontal line" BROKEN UP, though----i.e., by your longer blazer in the second outfit----your hips don't look as wide!!

Your black blazer and the black-plated brass fringe on your necklace really highlight............ the lion rampant on your graphic tee!!    *Very nice*!!

  31. Love the pumps! I just placed my order for them too! They are the perfect for any occasion!

  32. I love this outfit, what color are the pants from Target? I want to go online and buy them now and the shoes :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sara, I can't recall the exact name of the pants, but they sold out online within days after I bought them, and that was a couple months ago so I doubt they have them in stores either. :-(

  34. I don't think the 1st one is "bad", but I do think the 2nd is better :)
