Today's Everyday Fashion: KC Live

I wore the top look for a night out in Orlando a couple weeks ago, and the bottom look I wore on KC Live yesterday morning (watch here). As much as I love this dress, it did not look good on TV. Experts  recommend fitted clothing in bright colors for TV/photo sessions (I've been known to pass that advice onto people as well), and I am sticking with that going forward. My posture didn't help, but the pattern and looseness of the dress didn't translate well on TV. Luckily it still looks good in person ;-) Have you given chevron dresses a try yet? Are they a yay or nay in your book?

Dress: c/o Page 6 Boutique, $58
Necklace: c/o Page 6 Boutique, $35
Belt: Limited, $15
Shoes: c/o Nine West, $62
Boots: c/o Chinese Laundry, $150
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $69 and $39
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79 and $19

Also, I've had tons of requests for more shopping options for boots. Here are some top picks under $200. Options #6 and #8 are for wide calves.
1. Diba  2. Charlotte Russe  3. Clarks  4. Franco Sarto 5. Etienne Aigner  6. Aerosoles  7. Banana  8. Naturalizer

  1. I disagree. I thought it still looked great. Not unflattering, or ill-fitting, just stylish.

  3.  I love the leggings look. And I can see wearing the dress "out" without the leggings. Sorry it didn't look good on tv, looks good in the pics!

  4. I think if you had been standing for the segment, it would have been more appealing! It just seemed to lump up because you were sitting down. But I loved your hair!

(Finally just started following you on twitter too!)

  5. I agree with Lora - I thought it looked great. Sitting or standing, it's an adorable outfit, and it does translate.  We're our own worst critics, so I'm sure it looks worse to you than about 99% of the general population.  Regardless, you did excellent!  Very poised and full of useful information.  I can't tell you how much of an inspiration you've been to me.  Keep it up!

  6. I don't think the dress looked bad - just maybe not the best :) The first outfit is great! But I do like the second adaptation for those who may not want to wear a shorter dress.

  9. Watched the segment. I live in KC so I was so excited to see you in my city! I love that dress and with the leggings (or tights) is even better!

  10. I really don't think it's possible for you to look bad J! This is a great look- both ways. I would go for the leggings, personally- but that's just more my style. I love, love, love the chevron dresses I see on others and online but can't find one to buy. Just have to look harder (more shopping) woo hoo!

  11. I didn't think it looked bad, but it did look extremely short while sitting.  Almost like it was a shirt instead of a dress! : )

  15. I watched your----(3:39 on KSHB)----"KC Live" Video;  and it was a great interview, J. ............ *F.U.L.L.*  of really good Holiday Shopping Tips!!

I love both of your outfits, (Above);  but I can understand your misgivings about the second outfit for a TV appearance.    I know my opinion is greatly-influenced by my career (Nursing);  but I think it's really gratifying----particularly for teen girls!!----to "look up to" very fashionable/stylish women (like you!!) who AREN'T AFRAID to, say, tastefully show............ their *strong* arms............ their "strong* backs............ their *strong* legs............ etc. ............ simply by the clothes they wear everyday.    Soooo............ even as - (you once noted on your blog!!) - your own grandmother says that you have good legs, so you should "show them off" while you can............ maybe an equally-important reason to HIGHLIGHT one of your best features, (i.e., your legs), on live TV is the very admirable *perception* you give-out that, "Yes, you CAN be............ *healthy*............ and *strong*............ and ALSO very fashionable/stylish, TOO!!"    ('Sure hope this makes sense!!)

(As in your Friday, 11/16/12 post), *Good Luck* to you on your second TV
Appearance this morning, J. ............ i.e., "Great Day St. Louis on Tuesday 11/20 at 10 a.m. on channel 4 (KMOV)"!!

  18. love this look!   quick question...the tights you are wearing in pic 2...do you mind to share the details on these?

    thanks!

  19. I love that dress!  I do prefer it with the heels over the leggings & boots.  The tighter shot in the TV segment looked great - I think a pattern for TV is nice to mix it up!  Great segment :)

  20. Great job and good tips! A word on the wide calf boots...this season I just discovered that a cobbler can stretch high quality leather 4-6 inches. So I found a pair I could almost zip up all the way and then had them stretched. So much cuter and cheaper than some of the traditional wide calf options out there.

  21. Cute dress! I really like the first look.

  22. Boots: I stumbled upon the brand Bamboo. Ideeli had a pair of Bamboo Zoria-55 cognac knee high boots for $45 including shipping. I normally don't like fake leather boots, but they looked nice and were returnable, so I took a gamble. I'm SO happy with them. I get compliments on them all the time and I wear them more than my real leather boots that were at least three times the price.  Note: I have very slender calves and ankles, which I think contributes to my boots slouching more than they did in the picture, however they are still at my knee and look great.  I've seen them for sale on Hautelook, Ideeli and maybe Ruelala. Urbanog.com also sells them, however they tend to run out of larger sizes very fast. I typically wear a 9.5 and I ordered a 10 which was the right choice. The toe area was narrower than I expected, but after a few wears they molded to my feet.

  23. Oh and I also recommend the Steve Madden Candence boot that I'm seeing on sale everywhere.

  24. I love this way you can make this look dressy and casual! I love the dress, it had a great pattern and color scheme! Those boots are my fav on you! Great selections too!

  32. I love this tip Maura! One of my close friends has big enough calves that even this wasn't an option for her - she's the one who found the Aerosoles Mariland above - so hopefully it's an option for anyone who needs more space than a cobbler can provide!

  33. Kristy, they are leggings and I believe I got them c/o of MJR Sales!

  34. Thank you so much Rosanna! Glad you enjoyed the segment. It was unseasonably warm in KC yesterday so I should've gone for another look. Next time! :-)

  35. I totally agree! The way I was sitting with my legs uncrossed it looked like a long shirt.

  36. No I'm sure you aren't the only one. :-) The dress and necklace are both a reddish wine color though! ;-)

  37. Kimberly, they are navy leggings and I believe I got them c/o of MJR Sales!

  38. Totally agree Kim, standing up would've been better! thank you!

  39. Thank you Natalie! I'm way more concerned with presenting useful info than looking hot, so I'm glad you enjoyed the segment! :-)

  40. I haven't been able to found a pair of riding boots that looks good on me, so I went with some Steve Madden cowboy boots (from TJ Maxx!) for this fall season.

  46. You look great!  Even on TV you looked great!  I loooove chevron dresses but I haven't gotten one yet.  Not sure how long they'll last for, and therefore I can't decide if I want to go for one of them or spend the money on something else.

  47. Wonderful shopping tips, thanks so much for linking us to that clip! You really photograph pretty, but are just that much lovelier on air!

  48. Dress is adorable, however, I must admit I'm pretty over them for this season. I think it is stemmed from our local Junior League holiday market that had tons of cute boutique-style clothing vendors, and EVERY last one of them was stocked to the brim in these dresses in different color combos. I don't really like having the same outfits as others (since I live in a small town) but this would seem to be the same as EVERYONE. So cute for others, but moving on without it this year =)

  50. A very nice example of wide calf dress boots , This blog is very much inspirational for those who feel shy to wear dress boots because of wide calves.

  51. You look great, but I think you looks more attractive in your first wardrobe with over the knee & Wide calf boot.
