Today's Everyday Fashion: North Dakota

I'm headed to North Dakota this weekend and could not be more excited for chilly weather and an excuse to bundle up! I started brainstorming some ideas for packing, and the outfit above is a contender for a travel day. When I bought the shirt a couple months ago, I put together the outfit below but never wound up posting it. I'm loving the winter version with mustard jeans and a thick, wool navy coat above (I'm also adding a navy cardigan and cognac gloves for warmth). Which version do you prefer?

Also, if you live in North Dakota be sure to check out the Grand Forks Women's Show. I'll be giving a style seminar on Saturday afternoon, which is chock-full of tips for organizing your closet, budgeting, and shopping smart, and I'll be staying after to answer one-on-one questions. My dream as a kid was to be an author and a traveling motivational speaker (that's why I majored in journalism), so in some ways this trip is that dream coming true. I always imagined it would be a second career later in life, so getting to do my dream job now? Somebody pinch me. :-) What is your ultimate dream job?

  12. Our forecast for the weekend says upper 30's and low 40's so on the chilly side is right.  I hope you have a wonderful trip to North Dakota!!!!!  We have puddles and mud in ND today so if you have some cute rain boots you may want to pack those too!  I hope I can make it to the Women's Show and check out your seminar.

  21. Not loving the red and yellow.  Tried that once and my teenager told me it reminded her of Burger King, Can't get that out of my mind anytime I see that combo.  Perhaps a chambray shirt would work better.  Have fun.

  32. Love the yellow jeans! And I don't mind them with the red, I think they compliment each other really well because the tones are slightly warm, not too bright.
Congrats on your dreams coming true! I'm sure you'll do great! My dream is to be able to run my own business and be my own boss - I tried the corporate world and really didn't like it, so I'm trying to get away from that. :)

I could not believe it when I pulled up your blog a few minutes ago and saw "North Dakota" as the title.  I was floored!  I love that you are coming up to visit as many people would probably brush ND off and say "no way am I going there."  I used to live in Grand Forks and now live in Fargo.  It's only an hour drive between the two so hopefully I can make it to your seminar.  Love your blog!

  48. HI!!! I live in Minot North Dakota. I was shocked to see your title today. I looked at my husband and asked "why would she come HERE?@google-85d96d4fc60bd48149ef7e4928ee59db:disqus ? I wish I could head to your seminar but unfortunately it is a 5 hour drive. Anyhow, as I am sure you have checked the weather channel but it's cold and rainy here. No snow as of yet, hoping it stays that way til at least Halloween. :)  Good luck visiting our Peace Garden state and enjoy some good old northern midwest "you betcha" and "for fun". Check out my start up blog:  thecoffeemama.blogspot.com if you get the chance. Thanks!

  50. Congratulations on your achievement :)  It is always wonderful when someone is able to realize their dream job. I work in the environmental field, which is something I dreamt of since I was a kid and worked towards it in university.  As a kid, I always loved reading National Geographic and imagined being an environmental writer of sorts.  Fast forward now, I am working in communications in the environmental field, where I get to write articles that are published, so I guess I have realised my dream in a way.  I do love my job. :)

I love your printed tee and the look with the mustard jeans.  Wearing printed tops is so out of my comfort zone, but I have been challenging myself to push my boundaries when it comes to fashion and personal style.  So I recently got a printed sweater and styled it with jeans as well.  Here is a photo: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/10/casual-fall-attire-printed-sweater.html
