I'm headed to North Dakota this weekend and could not be more excited for chilly weather and an excuse to bundle up! I started brainstorming some ideas for packing, and the outfit above is a contender for a travel day. When I bought the shirt a couple months ago, I put together the outfit below but never wound up posting it. I'm loving the winter version with mustard jeans and a thick, wool navy coat above (I'm also adding a navy cardigan and cognac gloves for warmth). Which version do you prefer?
Also, if you live in North Dakota be sure to check out the Grand Forks Women's Show. I'll be giving a style seminar on Saturday afternoon, which is chock-full of tips for organizing your closet, budgeting, and shopping smart, and I'll be staying after to answer one-on-one questions. My dream as a kid was to be an author and a traveling motivational speaker (that's why I majored in journalism), so in some ways this trip is that dream coming true. I always imagined it would be a second career later in life, so getting to do my dream job now? Somebody pinch me. :-) What is your ultimate dream job?

ReplyDeleteAww, you should come to Minnesota... it is wayyyy better than ND! :D Love the cold weather version!
ReplyDeleteThat's rude
DeleteYes very rude. One of those people who think they are better because of the state they live in. So sad
DeleteCongrats on your speaking job! That is amazing that you are living out your dream. My dream job would be in fashion some way too. I like both looks, but the above outfit is perfect for fall! Heather
ReplyDeletei love these looks! so so cute!

Oh my lord you're headed to my home state!!! I'm probably the only person jealous you're going to ND!!!! Lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great time!
Our forecast for the weekend says upper 30's and low 40's so on the chilly side is right. I hope you have a wonderful trip to North Dakota!!!!! We have puddles and mud in ND today so if you have some cute rain boots you may want to pack those too! I hope I can make it to the Women's Show and check out your seminar.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I used to live in Grand Forks. I think the first one will be a lot warmer. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Heather! I always imagined my speaking job would be about marketing and business strategy, but getting to share shopping/style tips with women that help them feel great is even better. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Lindsay! The second one was my summer outfit for this shirt! :-)
ReplyDeletecute! i almost just bought that top from the gap. i think it was 4 dollars here! i had a hard time with the sleeves though... but love it on you.

J, if you see a shirt like this without the graphic, let us know. The graphic makes it a little too casual for my workplace, but I love the look.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit. My dream job involves helping people. I get to do that now, I just wish it came without politics. I wouldn't mind dabbling in fashion :)

Not loving the red and yellow. Tried that once and my teenager told me it reminded her of Burger King, Can't get that out of my mind anytime I see that combo. Perhaps a chambray shirt would work better. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI love the shirt and necklace combo on you! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://allthingsprettyandlittle.blogspot.com/
I agree that yellow + red can be very "ketchup and mustard", but these jeans are more brown than yellow to my eyes! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Agi! Your comment reminds me of this post on how to define success, which for me is helping women!! :-) http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/04/lets-discuss-success.html
ReplyDeleteI'm from North Dakota! Have fun :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I loveee both your looks. The mustard jeans are absolutely adorable. I'll definitely have to buy a pair. I hope you're having fun in North Dakota. I'm sure your seminar will be incredible! =D

Mine is to be a full-time blogger & writing content for all sorts of people! (ahem, shameless plug, I'm looking for remote internships, paid or unpaid!)
ReplyDeleteI miss cold weather sometimes but then I remeber snow. And that's that!
I'm so happy to hear your dreams are coming true. It makes me happy to know others are happy. Powerful things happens when you work from your heart. It comes through to us in your blog. Thank you so much for sharing those little pieces of your self with us! Have a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like how you paired the red shirt with the mustard jeans, this looks like a great travel outfit! I hope you have a wonderful time in North Dakota! I love reading all of your opportunities and life adventures you have worked so hard for. Can't wait to see an upcoming post about your time there!

Love the yellow jeans! And I don't mind them with the red, I think they compliment each other really well because the tones are slightly warm, not too bright.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your dreams coming true! I'm sure you'll do great! My dream is to be able to run my own business and be my own boss - I tried the corporate world and really didn't like it, so I'm trying to get away from that. :)
Have fun on your trip!

Love the color scheme of the first outfit and how you used all fall-toned colors

I am SOOO bummed that I will not be home, as I am currently training in SC for the Army. I am from Fargo, ND and would have made the trip to meet you. I follow your blog everyday and get so many fashion tips from you. Keep doing what you are doing!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for quite some time now, and I have to say it is BRILLIANT! It does not matter what you wear, you always look fabulous! Congratulations on being so inspiring and looking so awesome :) Thanks for sharing your fashion secrets :)
ReplyDeletelove the first fall outfit... boh look good actually =)

I could not believe it when I pulled up your blog a few minutes ago and saw "North Dakota" as the title. I was floored! I love that you are coming up to visit as many people would probably brush ND off and say "no way am I going there." I used to live in Grand Forks and now live in Fargo. It's only an hour drive between the two so hopefully I can make it to your seminar. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome that you're living your dream!! I really like the first look, the second look is "too much." I'm not sure what it is "too much" of (maybe orange?!) but its overwhelming. The first outfit is way more fun and fall-ish ;-)

glad to hear you are living your dream! I wish I was, alas it's a cubclie world for me.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah....not a fan of that outfit with the boots. Those colors! My eyes! They burn!
Thank you Ally! I've had more than my fair share of fashion disasters, but I'm all about picking back up and trying again! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie! Hope you can make the seminar!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maranda! Sorry to hear you can't make it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ciara! I would love to come to Wash/Oregon sometime, I've never been in that part of the country before!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilary! I can attest that being an entrepreneur rocks. I hated it at first and missed the routine but now I love the flexibility! Best of luck to you!! :-)
ReplyDeletewill you be stopping in fargo at all??
ReplyDeleteHI!!! I live in Minot North Dakota. I was shocked to see your title today. I looked at my husband and asked "why would she come HERE?@google-85d96d4fc60bd48149ef7e4928ee59db:disqus ? I wish I could head to your seminar but unfortunately it is a 5 hour drive. Anyhow, as I am sure you have checked the weather channel but it's cold and rainy here. No snow as of yet, hoping it stays that way til at least Halloween. :) Good luck visiting our Peace Garden state and enjoy some good old northern midwest "you betcha" and "for fun". Check out my start up blog: thecoffeemama.blogspot.com if you get the chance. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Sorry I will miss you on this trip, but thanks for the heads up on the weather!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your achievement :) It is always wonderful when someone is able to realize their dream job. I work in the environmental field, which is something I dreamt of since I was a kid and worked towards it in university. As a kid, I always loved reading National Geographic and imagined being an environmental writer of sorts. Fast forward now, I am working in communications in the environmental field, where I get to write articles that are published, so I guess I have realised my dream in a way. I do love my job. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your printed tee and the look with the mustard jeans. Wearing printed tops is so out of my comfort zone, but I have been challenging myself to push my boundaries when it comes to fashion and personal style. So I recently got a printed sweater and styled it with jeans as well. Here is a photo: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/10/casual-fall-attire-printed-sweater.html
I double takes when I read you are coming here, I'm sitting in Grand Forks as we speak. Have a great show! Wish I could be there.
ReplyDeleteThe coat you are wearing in picture 1 looks different than any of the shopping options you posted. Yours is really cute with the brass buttons and different pockets. Is yours really from the LOFT or is it different??
ReplyDeleteLOVE your blog btw-I check it every day. And I shop waayyy too much now!

WOW, that first look is so bold... it's absolutely perfect!! I would wear that seven days a week if I could haha :)

You should definitely post the other outfit with the skirt. It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteSheri, yes my coat is from LOFT but I got it two years ago. You could try the current LOFT coat above and just add gold buttons!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are doing your dream job too! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThe winter version is my favorite! I love the top with the mustard jeans and the bold colors!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on realizing your dream! That is always so exciting to see a hope come true! I'm living my dream - I get to stay home with my 3 boys! I'm a homeschooling mom - it's definitely a wild ride, the hardest thing I've ever done, and the most rewarding thing I've ever done. When I was little, I always wanted to be a mom, a nurse, or a nanny - something where I got to nurture and care for children!
fun colors!
ReplyDeleteCoby, I love that!! Being a mom is the most important job there is. Sounds like you are doing an amazing job at that!
ReplyDeleteI have this top! I got it on clearance last week...great idea, I can wear it with my mustard pants.
ReplyDeleteI love both outfits. I love the colors and how you incorporated the stripes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had fun in my home state. I love the mustard jeans!
