Winter Trends That Work This Spring

We may be deep into winter weather right now, but spring fashion is just around the corner! With so many trends to choose from this winter, which ones should you invest in so that you get more bang for your buck? Here are four winter trends and how to wear them this spring. (This is a guest post for Shecky's, you can see it here!)

1. Corduroys. Corduroys may seem like a heavy material only reserved for winter, but paired with bright colors and sandals, you can wear them all summer long!

1. Forever 21 Skinny Corduroy Pants, $19.80
2. Victoria’s Secret Pencil Pant in Corduroy, $47.60
3. Ann Taylor Corduroy Skinny Fashion Pants, $49.99
4. JFOUR Casual Pants via YOOK, $49

2. Python. Python has taken retailers by storm this winter, but thankfully the fun doesn't have to end when warm weather rolls around. Pair your python with other summery pieces like an olive skirt and sandals for an exotic warm-weather look!

1. Ary K. Python-Print Silk Top via Dillard’s, $47.40
2. Two-pocket Fitted Camp Shirt via Victoria’s Secret, $44.50
3. Jessica Simpson Abby Wristlet via Famous Footwear, $24.99
4. Nine West Squared Off Medium Shopper via Macy’s, $40.99

3. Pleated Skirts. Pleated skirts came on the scene this winter, but I love them for spring! Wear them now with tights, and later with a lightweight top to take you through all seasons.

1. Elle pleated skirt via Kohl’s, $35
2. LC Lauren Conrad floral accordian-pleat chiffon skirt via Kohl’s, $35
3. ModCloth Bold Flame Skirt, $42.99
4. 212 Collection accoridan-pleat skirt via Kohl’s, $30.80

4. Sequins. Sequins might make you think of 'holiday' at first, but they are perfectly appropriate in all seasons. Pair a sparkly topper with a mini skirt or a sequin mini with a basic tank for an easy nighttime look.

1. Express Sequin Moto Jacket via MJR Sales, $25.60
2. Arden B Paillette Sequin Tank, $34.50
3. Forever 21 Sequined Skirt, $19.80
4. Arden B Mesh Sequin Tunic, $39.50

Which one is your favorite? What winter trends do you plan to wear this spring?

  3. I'm with you (Shecky) on phyton, pleated skirts and sequins(wich I LOVE!), but corduroy during summer- not so much! First of all - on normal (not even too hot) summer day, even jeans are too much let alone thicker pants like corduroy ones, and second (for the same reason) corduroy pants would look odd in summer weather... at least where I live :) On an unexpectedly chilly summer day(night) ok, you could pass in them and not feel too hot... but still I think it would look odd :)

  8. No way! I have to totally disagree. I wore the first outfit in July in Orlando and it was one of my favorite outfits of all time!! Maybe some cords are super-thick but these aren't any heavier than jeans and I really believe it's all about the way you style them. They look totally summery!

  9. I agree Sharon - I went to their events when I lived in Boston and they were a lot of fun!

  12. For those of us whose weather is a few degrees below Hell during the spring and summer cords are not an option for the warmer months. Neither are jeans and long pants in general.

  13. Where do you live Tracie? Orlando is ridiculously hot and humid in the summer, so I'm trying to imagine somewhere warmer?! Before moving here I used to think that my friends who wore jeans in the summer were crazy, but my blood must've thinned b/c I can wear jeans when it's really hot now and it doesn't bother me one bit. Summers felt hotter when I lived in Kansas, but only because I had the winter to compare it to. It's warm here year-round so these pants in the summer don't bother me one bit. That said... if you do live in Kansas that outfit still works, just wear it in March or April, versus July like I did!

  14. haha, this is crazy(not your opinion, but this dissagreement ;) ) b/c I live in Belgrade, Serbia and our summer is really hot (most of the days around 90, some even 100, and tends to be humid so feels even hotter and sweaty) but you live in FLORIDA!!! That should be hot and humid... and you still feel comfortable in cords, hm... I agree with you on the styling part, this photo with purple shirt looks awesome (I thought those were red jeans... untill today's post)... and I see where you're coming from with thinking outside the box and getting more use out of your clothes... And my cords are also probably not much thicker than jeans... but STILL... I just wanted to say that, knowing my friends, and how generally people think here, cords would be considered obsolete in summer months... (that's why I said - at least where I live) yours are red so they look summery even by the color... but then again, I have PINK cords... and if I wore them in july my friends would think I'm crazy, not to mention I would not be comfortable, when it's hot here it doesn't get chilly even in the evenings, at least not untill late summer... (I don't wear jeans on normal summer days... linen is the only long-pant option)

  17. Thanks for 'splaning! I am fascinated by how women wear clothes in real life, and this blog in many ways is a place to discuss that! So thank you for sharing your POV all the way from Serbia! :-)

  31. oh okay! thank you so much, that is such a neat shop!

  32. I would like to try corduroys, although I have the same concerns as others about them being too warm. (I live in Florida too.) Also, being a size 8, I don't want to look heavy. Where do you find "thin" cords, both as in thin material and thin "stripes" or whatever they're called? You know, so I'm not wearing those old, thick 1970's cords that make the swishswish sound when my thighs rub together. *horror*

I really like the python print thing that is happening. Leopard seems like it has been going on for.ever. So, this is refreshing. Still, I'm terrified to do anything other than a belt or bag. Baby steps for this 36 year old I think.

I'm on the fence with the pleated skirts. It may be my monster hips, but also, they look so sweet and precious. Some women can pull that off, but I don't think I'm one of them. There are some ultra-feminine details that, when I put them one, I feel like Leather Tuscadero trying to wear a dress. I feel like my vibe is too masculine for that one.

I love the sequins. :) I have got to get my husband to take me somewhere where I can justify rocking some damn sequins.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Again Tina, you are cracking me up today! :-) Yes, please get your husband to take you somewhere you can wear sequins! And I would recommend just trying on a pleated skirt to see how it looks. I thought it would add pounds but they can be really flattering if you get the right one. As for cords, I got mine at Gap, but yes I would definitely look for ones with super-thin "stripes" as those tend to be more lightweight!

  34. do you remember the name of it? i can't find it on there

  35. Here's the shirt on VS: http://www.victoriassecret.com/ss/Satellite?ProductID=1321707256849&c=Page&cid=1321713091801&pagename=vsdWrapper On MJR, the search term is "tee shop cut out shoulder top." Looks like they have a bunch in other colors!
