Today's Everyday Fashion: Favorites

I snapped these photos as I left for church on Sunday. I can't help but love this outfit. These colors (seafoam + mustard + turquoise) make me sooo happy, and every piece in this outfit is a favorite of mine. I'm also pretty stoked about my new purse. Purse are a big purchase for me (I usually only buy 1-2 a year), and I've been looking for one for a few months now. It's a light brown, buttery soft leather bag with gold hardware I found on clearance last week at TJ Maxx. I needed something simple to wear with loud outfits and it was love at first sight. What is your purse buying strategy? Do you go bold or simple? How many do you usually buy a year?

  2. Great colors together!  I really like this a lot!  That handbag is really nice too!  I am obsessed with handbags, and I think I used to buy maybe a few each year and have gathered a nice collection.  TJ Maxx is the place I usually buy them too!  xx

  3. Great color combo!  If I could wear mustard everyday, I would.

I used to buy a cheap, fun purse each season, but now I'm sticking to the classics.  I bought a camel colored leather tote from Coach Outlet 2 years ago and I still love it.  No logos or funky details on it -- simple and classic.  Every now and then I'll buy a cute clutch or something but they don't get much use.

  4. I love this look! So classy! I was one that bought purses for the heck of it. But then my husband bought me a Furla purse a few years back and well I haven't gone back. LOL So I am a faithful Furla girl but I do wait till they go on sale before the big purchase. This December I was able to get one through Ideeli! Score!!!

  5. One of my favorite outfits you have ever worn!  The necklace looks exactly like the J. Crew Bubble necklace that costs wayyy more.  You look great!  Very classy.

I have a weakness for purses and handbags, and end up buying maybe 5 or 6 a year.  I am always rotating which one I use.  You can never go wrong with a classic bag like that one!

  6. I LOVE this outfit!  Also, I credit you with my current love of everything mustard.

  7. This is a beautiful outfit! You look like you just stepped out of the pages of J.Crew!

I'm the same way with purses. I prefer quality over quanity, and details like soft, real leather and pretty hardware. I usually tell family to get me either TJ Maxx or Macy's gift cards for holidays and that's when I take the plunge and get a new bag!

  8. I try to buy a purse for each season... In the Fall & Winter I go for neutral colors classic staples with quirky details. In the Summer and Spring I go for bold colors in unusual styles but that are still timeless. I hate when I have a purse that only goes with one color palette. I want to be able to mix it up. I used to buy purses all the time and switch my purse everyday. But recently I realized I have my top 8 - 10  that I rotate throughout the year. And now I don't forget things in my bag from the previous day! Love the colors by the way and I think I am going to use this palette in my wardrobe for spring!

  9. What a gorgeous bag for an incredible price!  I've toned down my purchases recently, a few years ago when Louis Vuitton and Gucci halted price increases I bought 6.  My handbags have to compliment my outfit, good quality leather, and classic in style.

  12. I have an event in AC coming up, and I was thinking about wearing a turquoise statement necklace with a black shirt/blazer, skinny jeans, and black pumps. Is this outfit acceptable for this time of the year?

  13. Your necklace is the exact dupe for the J.Crew bubble necklace!

  15. Hi Holly, I'm wearing an XS! :-)

  16. Yep, pretty sure H&M copied it. They also sold it in orange/red. I got mine last summer.

  17. Not sure what AC is, but that outfit sounds perfect for any climate this time of year, so I say go for it! :-)

  18. Love the mustard color. And that necklace is killer! xo Jet

  19. Love this strategy Hope! I tend to buy one neutral bag each year that I spend more $ on, and then one fun purse (like my leopard or a bright color) that is less $.

  20. I have the same necklace in red, and I'm wearing it today! I was totally Inspired to bring it out again because jcrew is selling a VERY similar one right now....but he H&M version is much more budget friendly. Love the look and the colors.

  21. Looove this outfit!  I totally agree about the colors--they make me happy too!  I buy a few crappy purses a year, but my "purse strategy" has taken a turn this year to involve only buying 1-2 quality purses.

  22. Love your outfit! Effortlessly chic. I only buy a purse every 1-2 years but I save up for it and shop outlet malls and sales for months. I'll make a big investment, but in a classic style (no logos or trendy stuff) that's really high quality leather so I can wear it for a long time. It has to be perfect. I should check TJ Maxx because I'm actually in the market for a new black purse now!

  24. Wow! My favorite outfit of yours yet. This is definitely getting bookmarked. Are you having another post today to reveal the ShoeMint winner?!

  25. I love this outfit!! I wouldn't have thought to put these colors together but it looks gorgeous! And yay for your new purse! I've been looking for a new bag myself and that one is so pretty! It will be such a good neutral for you!

  26. Thank you! I'm picking a winner around midnight and will email the person + add it to the bottom of the ShoeMint post!

  27. I love the purse and the outfit! Great colors together!

What is with the slouchy tucked in shirt? Its okay for casual looks but I don't think that looks good when you're wearing a more dressy outfit.

  28. I've found a few great purses at TJ Maxx. I think my next will be a Michael Kors tote since I can't afford another Louis Vuitton right now.

  32. Thank you! Totally respect what you are saying, but I love it when outfits juxtapose two different ideas in the same outfit. So, a ballerina skirt and an army jacket, or a dressy outfit with a sloppy tuck! J.Crew catalogs do this a lot and I absolutely love it! :-)

  33. I love stella and dot! Ive been thinking about becoming a stylist but I'm too much a chicken to just do it. Do you have any advice or suggestions?

  34. I don't discriminate when it comes to purses...  I love high end and low end.  I used to buy a lot more cheaper purses and was getting one every month or two.  In the past couple years I've been into nicer brands, so I haven't purchased as many.  The last two purchases were a Poppy purse from Coach and great burlap with pink trim purse from Target.

  35. Ophelia, I approach Stella & Dot much differently than most people (I only do it online, I don't do the trunk shows) so I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask unfortunately! I know tons of Stylists, do you want to email me and I can hook you up with one of them to ask them some questions?

  38. The seafoam + mustard + turquoise colors of your outfit honestly remind me of............ a golden sunset over pale aqua waters............ (i.e., like the two sunset shots in your September 14, 2010, blogpost:  http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/search?q=sunset)!!    And maybe the color of your light brown, buttery-soft, Calvin Klein leather bag could just be............ the  *w.a.r.m.*  *s.a.n.d.*  between-your-toes on the beach, too, (haha)!!    What a gorgeous, almost-luminescent outfit!!

These colors might also look pretty at dinner, while on-board ship during a cruise, too;  so you'll simply have to take ANOTHER cruise, J. ............ wait for "The Perfect Sunset"............ then pose on deck for a photograph IN your (*Warm-Weather*!!) Seafoam + Mustard + Turquoise Dinner Outfit............ (i.e., JUST FOR the sake of your Devoted Readers, of course, haha)!!
