Today's Everyday Fashion: The Traveling Salesman

I was a busy girl yesterday. It was my last free day in town, and I spent it driving all over Kansas City visiting friends at work, at Starbucks, etc. It was just like a traveling salesman, only way more fun. :-) I wore this outfit - a chunky sweater coat I've had for years, with my new Stella & Dot pendant I've dubbed my Flava Flav necklace because of it's size. This type of look is definitely my "casual uniform." I sub in shorts and sandals in the summer and different pendants, but I pretty much always turn to neutral outfits like these when I'm running errands. What is your casual uniform in the winter?

Sweater: Gap, old
Shirt: LOFT, $30
Jeans: Vigoss c/o Nordstrom Rack, $35
Boots: Grifter c/o Chinese Laundry, $149
Purse: Juicy Couture from Neiman Marcus, $115
Necklace: My Stella & Dot website, $98

1. Gap sweater coat, $44.99
2. Limited faux fur cardigan, $39.99
3. LOFT open cardigan, $59.50

  1. I just recently started loving the contrast of camel and neutral gray tones.  Love this casual look!

  2. This outfit makes you look comfy yet put together & stylish. I used to own a warm, soft fleece sweater coat similar to yours, but I gave it to one of my roommates a few years ago. I may need to invest in a new one.

My everyday winter casual look is usually jeans, a pair of black boots and some sort of blazer. Or, I go with a plaid button up and a vest... Love your look - so cozy and chic!

  4. I like how casual this is, and I just got a sweater similar style for Christmas from my Mother in Law and I love it!  I am also most likely wearing mine with skinny jeans and some boots!  It is such a casual chic look, isn't it?!  Love your Stella and Dot necklace too!

  5. Awesome uniform. I think this combo (cardigan, top, skinnies, boots) is pretty much my go-to in the colder months. I occasionally opt for flats sometimes.

  11. J - I meant to ask you yesterday, but ran out of time. I have a solid mustard sweater, and I just bought solid mustard tights. Can I wear them together or is that too much mustard? Maybe with a black skirt and shoes??

  16. Sheepskin boots!  With everything - it's been so cold here that they're essential to stay warm.  Chunky knits and a big scarf are also on my winter menu!

  17. When I'm just casually visiting friends/family............ (during the winter or summer)............ whom I haven't SEEN in a while, I usually wear kind of "low-key" pieces, (such as the neutrals in your outfit);  OR specific clothing items in paler colors, (such as a pale blue, pale pink, or pale lavender shirt with dark pants or jeans).    Then, on that very "non-threatening" (haha!!) and very approachable background, it's just *fun* to wear ONE accessory or beautiful piece of jewelry that's really EYE-CATCHING............ (such as your *gorgeous* Labradorite Pendant Necklace!!)............ i.e., it's almost like WEARING "A Little Gift"............ that your friends/family can see;  enjoy;  and just  *d.e.l.i.g.h.t.*-in-lookin'-at............ WHILE you're visiting with them, you know!!

(Not that you yourself, J, aren't ALREADY a genuine gift *to* your friends/family~~~and to your readers, too!!)

  19. I love your unique titles, but this one cracks me up!  As a sales representative I could never ever spend an entire day in boots/shoes like those!  I am a sales rep for a publishing company selling textbooks so my day involves trekking around campuses, visiting professors and bookstores to see what books are in use and talking to profs about adopting one of ours.  I go up and down hills and stairs, through all kinds of weather, and all kinds of floors.  So my question is, what fashionable, but stylish and body-saving shoes would you recommend?

  20. I totally hear you - I definitely got to sit a lot between "appointments" so these shoes were no problem at all. I did a sales internship in college though and for that you need some very-comfy shoes. I would wear something along the lines of these MK loafers: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/09/todays-everyday-fashion-portobello-road.html Or these red wedges are also super-comfy! http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/12/todays-everyday-fashion-plaid-escape.html

  21. Thanks!  The loafers look great... I've actually been searching for a pair.  My next challenge is to do a few looks for the sales person.  All of your fun skirts and heels outfits just do not work for this job (and I secretly can't wait to get an office job again so I can bust out the pencil skirts!).  I can be pretty casual, but I try to dress nicer because I already look like a student!  P.S. I love that you tell us where you bought the items and how much they were!
