Sweater is brown, dress is gray, leggings are navy |
A few things:
- I promise I will stop posting outfits with these boots for awhile. I only packed one carry-on suitcase, so I didn't have much room for variety in the footwear department this week!
- This was my outfit for the flight home yesterday. I added lots of layers - the sweater in the middle is super-thick and warm - to adjust for the changing climates as I traveled.
- It turns out that leggings are also a great idea for ice skating! I made an impromptu trip with my nephews before I hopped on a plane and was loving my stretchy pants. I almost bit it at one point and essentially did the splits. Stretchy pants are good for the splits.
- I still have no idea what I'm wearing for New Year's Eve. You?
Coat: Banana Republic, $130
Faux fur collar: H&M, $15
Dress: c/o Lamixx, $36
Sweater: Gap, old
Leggings: Victoria's Secret c/o MJR Sales, $4
Boots: Grifter c/o Chinese Laundry, $149
Necklace: Stella & Dot
Purse: Juicy Couture from Neiman Marcus Last Call, $115
This is a great traveling outfit. The leggings look like they are good quality, perfect for having to do the splits :) No plans for New Years other than staying in and singing karaoke and having a few cocktails. Can't wait to see what you end up wearing! Heather
ReplyDeleteGreat traveling outfit, I am all about layers when I travel! I am loving your coat! And I still have no idea what I am wearing on NYE! My sister and I went shopping yesterday but I failed to find anything I truly loved!
ReplyDeleteI've always admired when I see someone wear a dress as a skirt, but all of my dresses are odd lengths & look strange when paired with a top. I need to master this ASAP!
ReplyDeleteAs for NYE, you can never go wrong with sequins or an LBD. Good luck!

So when trying to find the leggings on MJR Sales is it leggings from a famous catalog or how do you find the Victoria's Secret ones?
ReplyDeleteI think I finally figured out my NYE outfit - we will be going to a friends house, there will be under 10 of us and it's very casual, but I still like to look cute. Also - their house is generally chilly. Grey leggings, black riding boots, black tunic length t shirt, grey close fitting wool sweater, black cardigan. Then pretty green earrings and matching blingy costume ring, and maybe an updo to keep the look from being too shluby.
ReplyDeleteJ- will you do a post on how to wear leggings tastefully, maybe with some different top options? You seem to pull it off effortlessly. I find I can only figure out one look with it and that is with a long tank covering my bum and a sweater over it, so not the cutest outfit.
ReplyDeleteI think she posted once that if you are wearing a super tight item for a bottom, then you should pair it with a less tight item on top. Maybe you could pair it with a flowy top that hits just above your hips and sinch it w/ a belt? Or wear the tights w/ a flowy/pleated skirt, and pair it with a nice fitted tank/shirt?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just thought: is your tank long enough to look like a mock dress? Maybe you could sinch that w/ a belt to creat a whole new look.
ReplyDeleteFamous Catalog = Victoria's Secret, they just can't say that. So on the website they will be listed as "Famous Catalog"!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Babydoll's ideas. (and I think your outfit does sound cute actually!) I do tend to pair one tight item with something loose, so that can be a good guideline. Also with leggings I'm a big believer that your bum needs to be fully covered (leggings as pants = I just can't get behind it). I'm still experimenting but so far my favorite pairings with leggings have been short dresses in a light material that are loose.
ReplyDeleteI love the middle look. I have a grey dress and I've never thought of putting a sweater over the top of it!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm wearing my new wax denim shirt and my Stella and Dot necklace but past that? No idea! I'm sure we'll both figure it out in time...x
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year J!!! Love the travel outfit! So cozy and chic at the same time! I like the boots, so I don't mind seeing them for the next year! LOL! xx

These types of posts are so useful for me as I live in a cold climate. I usually end up looking like a snowman whenever I dress for winter (big & puffy). This looks warm without looking bulky. Love it!! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a sweater over a dress is so cute! :)
