Today's Everyday Fashion: Weather Challenged

Well, it's official. I'm the world's worst packer. I always check the weather before I leave and yet somehow end up with a suitcase full of items that are all wrong. Today I am wearing this outfit to the bridesmaid's luncheon for the wedding. It's colder than I expected so I'll be adding navy leggings for some extra warmth. This is a new dress that I am absolutely loving though - anything with a tribal or 70's inspired print is on my wish list for fall! Kind of hard to tell in the picture, but it is really flattering and has kind of a glossy sheen so it could definitely be worn for a night out, or it can be dressed down for a day event like I did here. Tell me - what are your strategies for packing correctly for the weather?

  1. I travel a lot to different climate changes. I tend to bring enough for extreme cold and extreme hot temps because I can never seem to pack what I need either. I always overpack and pass out clothes to my friends who under pack. :)

  2. I love that dress as well -- looks great on you! One of my strategies for packing for the weather is always checking the 10-day forecast on weather.com to see what I should expect. And I always make sure to pack extra layers, just in case it gets cooler than expected!

  3. like the vintage vibe of the dress!!!  thanks for the link to the cognac boots. Like you - despite my informed preparations I am often without the right items- sometimes due to the different aspects of weather of the place I am visiting.

  4. Very cute dress! A leather jacket is always a great layering piece in cooler weather. It gives a girly piece a little bit of edge. I am a horrible packer, so I have no tips or advice, lol.  Heather

  5. Love that outfit! I live in Atlanta and it has been cold but I haven't been able to wear boots during the day and not get hot. I'm sure coming from Orlando you definitely feel the weather changes! Have a wonderful day!

  6. Always bring a sweater and a jacket. It's a pain, but at least I have all bases covered :)

    LOVE this outfit, btw!

  7. Absolutely ADORE the dress with those boots. I'm looking for boots like that, that I can wear with everything. I love the third pair from Bloomie's

  8. Days tend to warm up more slowly in Atlanta than other places I've lived. I don't think we typically reach our expected highs until late afternoon.

  11. You look great as always!
My packing strategy is to go with one base color (either black or brown) so it's easy to create different outfits because everything coordinates with everything else you have along, and to plan for LAYERS. My mother taught me the importance of layers when I was 5 and it might be the most important thing I learned that year!

  13. Love the dress. My packing strategy is to coordinate all outfits and plan on wearing everything twice if the trip is more than 2 days. I'm one of those people that can pack for a 10-day trip in a carry-on. Really.

  14. Hey J,

I love your blog I look forward to your outifts everyday :)  I bought the exact same Bakers boot but after only a month of wearing them (and definitely not everyday) the heel is completely falling apart and the toe is scuffed beyond belief.  I took pics of the boot and Bakers is giving me a refund but I'm so in love with the boots I want to buy another pair!  Have you noticed the boot is falling apart as well?  I'm thinking because they were a little too big on me (I'm usually a 8.5 but bought a 9 and they stretched pretty drastically) maybe that was the reason it didn't hold up well.

Just want to ask because as silly as it sounds I'd really love to buy another pair, just because I love them!

  15. I usually pick either black or brown for a trip too! Usually it's brown. :-)

  16. Ava, are they the Bakers Tate? I've had these boots since last Christmas and have worn them TONS. I wore them all over Europe, all last winter, and they are holding up amazingly! Sounds like maybe you got a dud? :-(

  18. Yay! How are you liking them? They look SO identical to mine from Bakers!

Lol call me crazy but I printed out a bunch of your cute outfits and made a fashion scrapbook for inspiration..I'm sure no matter what u packed u can pull an outfit together!! I usually pack a few jeans and wear them on the return trip too my main problem is not being able to fit all of my makeup stuff..U're amazingly talented thanks for taking the time to post for all of us..xoxo -Pallavi

  20. I really have only traveled a few time, most trips have been during the holiday season when I knew it would be cold. For those few times that I wasnt sure about the weather, I packed 1 jeans, 1 dressy pant, and then leggings and skirts, that way I could layer... as for tops, being a Florida girl, I dont have a ton of tops with sleeves. So I go with a few tanks, a cardigan or two and an over coat.

Love your boots J! Super cute :)

  21. I love them! I do wish they fit more snug around my legs. I have thin legs and most boots look huge on me. Do you have that problem?

  22. This dress is super cute with or without the jacket. The jacket is also cute on its own. I'm with you though--everything tribal and 70s inspired is ah-mazing.

  24. Yes. I wear a size 9.5 or 10 in shoes, so my feet are way big in comparison to my legs. I usually go for boots you can lace up, or short booties but these are SO comfy I had to have them. They are definitely roomy but that also adds to the comfort factor. :-)

  25. I love that dress.

I check the weather too and often still end up with the wrong attire.
