Today's Everyday Fashion: It's a Tie
No need to adjust your screen, I am in fact wearing a tie. This is also not a late Halloween costume, it's just me trying out a "trend" to see if it works in real life. I personally think it's not all that different than wearing a statement necklace over your collared shirt, and overall I think it's a cute look for the right occasion (perhaps a casual Friday in a creative office?). Can't wait to hear what you guys think though - do you think bow ties work in real life? Would you wear one?

ps. I have moved on to round 2 in the Cheap Sally contest! The prize is $100,000 so I can't tell you how much this means to me - thank you so much for voting! Voting has started over and I need your votes again to move onto to the next round, and then after that it's up to me to "bring home the bacon." Please go here to vote ONCE PER DAY between now and the end of November! Thank you! :-)

This actually looks cute the way you styled it.
ReplyDeleteI am always leery to wear a bowtie or a tie, because it reminds me of my waitressing days when I HAD to wear one. I don't want to look like I am working at Bob Evans, lol! Heather
The cheap sally link doesn't work :/
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed a very chic outfit! :)

ReplyDeleteI have a couple ties myself. I'm currently in the process of making some of my own bow ties. I love menswear accessories and pairing it with a skirt/feminine piece.
ReplyDeleteLove this post!
Wow, I love it! You look great in this outfit! I don't think I would/could do it, but you def. make it work!
ReplyDeleteAlso, forgot to ask...do you have a tutorial on the many ways/styles of wearing scarves? TY!
ReplyDeleteLauren, this is so sweet, thank you! I'm so glad you have been feeling inspired lately, that is always my goal! :-)
ReplyDeleteI checked it but the link seems to be working fine for me - is anyone else having trouble with it?
ReplyDeleteThat makes total sense! I think my college roommate would echo these sentiments, she had to wear one for work too!
ReplyDeleteI like the tie w/blazer look, I'm so excited that "men's" style is in right now! I can't wait to break out my beau's chunky sweaters and ties.
ReplyDeleteJan, the closest thing I have is this artcile on 6 ways to wear spring scarves. Try searching on YouTube though - there are tons of great videos that show you new ways of wearing scarves on there! http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/04/6-ways-to-wear-spring-scarves.html
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd wear one of those because I'd be too scared but you look AWESOME! Wow, love it.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the SAME thing... the bow tie reminds me a little too much of my college watiressing job! haha... love the rest of the look, though!
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't think I could wear this trend but you pull it off and look cute : )
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable...I feel like I would look like a waiter. At the end of the day though, I think it's all about HOW you wear it and the confidence you bring with you!
ReplyDeleteLove this I think you look really professional, just throw on dark washes or black skinnies and it could definitely be moved more places where distressed jeans are too casual.
ReplyDeleteDo you wearing leggings under your ripped jeans? I noticed that I never see any skin peeking through the holes.
ReplyDeleteKaty, these are "faux" ripped jeans. they actually doubled up on the layers so the rips are over a layer of denim and no skin shows through. That is partly why I bough them! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think it's totally wearable - you look really cute! I saw a pic on pinterest once too that was a bowtie of sorts but it had little tassles on it - been meaning to try it ever since.x
ReplyDeleteIt worked fine for me! (at 1:58 PM mountain time)
ReplyDeleteI personally wouldn't go for it, but it's super fun on you!
ReplyDeletehmmm, not really a fan (for myself anyway!) but agree with some other comments that the outfit rocks without it!
ReplyDeleteI love this! One of my favorite episode that Jennifer Aniston wore on Friends was when she wore a tie. Ever since then I have been trying to figure out how to wear one! Yours is a bowtie so I would LOVE to see some long tie ideas!!

bottom left and top left are my two favorite outfits of the character.
I agree... a little too adventurous for me. If you have confidence in your outfit, you can rock whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteFirst I clicked on the logo, which doesn't work, you have to click on the hyperlink in J's text. That worked for me.
ReplyDeletereally love the bowtie and the loose shirt combo! I must try!
ReplyDeleteWow, I work in a casual creative office and this is a GREAT look. You're inspiring me to shop for a cute and feminine cut blazer. LOVE the heels with this. So much girl power and sass. :)
