Today's Everyday Fashion: The Procrastinator

Some people procrastinate on school projects, others procrastinate on buying Christmas gifts, but I procrastinate on wearing new items I truly love. That's right - when I really love something like this amazing blue silk top from Limited, it's hard for me to wear it. Why I may never know, but it may have something to do with "saving the best for last" or "not using the good China"? I have procrastinated so badly on wearing this shirt that it is now sold out online (sorry guys) and as this goes to post, I still haven't worn it yet (eek!). I am planning on wearing this outfit to church on Sunday though, so it will finally get the love it deserves. :-) Do you ever procrastinate with new items?

  1. This color blocking outfit is wonderful!  The drapiness of the top is very flattering and the colors are just gorgeous.  The yellow belt is the perfect pop of color!

And I never procrastinate with new items. As soon as they come home with me, they get washed and worn immediately.  I can't help it!

  2. I have the same top and have only worn it once so far.  Funny, one of the pairings in my mind for work with it was to pair it with a skirt the same color your wearing that I recently got from the Limited as well  :)  Great minds think alike!  Love the pop of green you added!

  3. Love the color!!! and yes I do this all the time I have tons of shoes and purses and then am afraid I'm gonna mess them up or want to save for a special occasion.  I have been better lately thanks to you I am trying new things and shopping my closet a lot more.  Keep up the great work you are my daily inspiration!!

  5. I am a huge procrastinator too! I think I feel like I have to wait for the perfect occasion to debut a new item or outfit.

  6. OMG I thought I was the only one on earth.. thanks J , I feel less "weird" now and more normal ! Whenever I buy something I truly like I save it for a special occasion... and I always end up wearing other items from the closet. I have items with still the price tag on that I bought last year ... shame on me !!!!

  7. i do the exact same thing!  i want to wait until the perfect occassion!

  8. Yes, I procrastinate with new items all the time and then my husband questions why I had to purchase it, lol.   My mother and grandmother are the same way but, your blog is helping me to break the cycle. :-)

  9. wow, I have done that all my life! I think it has to do with buying new outfits for school when I was younger and 'not being able to wear them until school' starts... that is too funny! (and I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this, ha!) :)

  10. This outfit looks great! I do not procrastinate on outfits. As soon as I buy an item I am planning the next occasion to wear it. If there's not an occasion soon enough I will plan one like a lunch date or a night on the town.
Although I will say I am bad about getting a few new things and then I forget about my old stuff and I wear the same new stuff over and over. That's were your blog comes in handy... Thanks J!

  11. ALWAYS!!!  I buy new items and hold on to them for the "right" occassion.  My husband on the other hand, he rips the tags off in the store and wears it on the spot.  So glad I'm not the only person that does this.  Love that top!

  12. Omg always!! I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one that does this!! I still have a cardigan I bought online from Express about a month ago and it's still in the packaging. I don't know why but like you it's like "not using the good China" and saving the expensive plush bath towels for the right moment. I'm always waiting for that one great moment to wear my new clothing item...and I think to myself, why not now??!! :)

  13. I'm the same way, holding on to my special items for just the right occasion. My husband is the direct opposite though. As soon as he gets new clothes, he takes the tags off and washes them. He wears them immediately, whereas mine hang in the closet with tags still on. I'm getting better, but as a SAHM, I really don't want to wear the "dry clean only" items while hanging around the house with kids. It's better for me to save them for special occasions such as date night, night out with the girls, church, etc. I have found though, that if I purchase an item at a consignment shop I wear it more than the ones I buy at a store. It must be a mental thing. I'm not afraid of "messing up" something I paid $8 for versus $30. But of course, my favorite items are mostly the new ones that I buy in a store.

I'm the same way!!!  Love my new clothes...and love keeping them new!!

  15. This is hilarious.  I am the opposite when I get something new I wear it immediately and then I wear it as much as possible for the next month or so and then I burn out and I don't like it as much and hardly wear it. I've done that my whole life. :)

  16. I always save my favorite items.  I think that some perfet occassion will pop outand I will know that it is time to bust out the 'perfect outfit.'  I would never want to 'waste' it on a mediocre occassion.  Then I look in my closet ad realize I haven't found the perfect occassion and finally just wear it!

  17. The only reason I usually procrastinate is when I really LOVE something, but I'm not sure how to style it. I love these colors!

  18. Glad to know I'm not the only one that 'saves' clothing items! My friends used to get mad at me because they weren't allowed to borrow anything in my closet that still had tags on! Love the combination of the bright colors in this outfit.

Whenever I go shopping, i wear my new stuff right away, so I'll wear different brand new outfits 4 days in a row. I should really space it out to amp up the excitement for a few weeks, don't you think?

  21. Totally makes sense - I think I try to spread out my purchases, and then wind up taking forever to wear some of the pieces. A balance of both would be the sweet spot! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I do that too! It took me months to really figure out a way to wear my red pants, but 8 months later I'm so glad I bought them!

  23. Can't wait to see how you wear the blue shirt and skirt Tara!

  24. I have this thing with whites :)

  25. I always procrastinate and want to "save" certain pieces or outfits, and then end up wearing stuff I just don't like quite as much.  People are always shocked at how much cute stuff I have with tags on it in my closet.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ha, ha that is so much like me! Two weeks ago I was shocked when I realized I had 43 new pieces of clothing in my closet that I hadn't wear. I was determined so start wearing them and have been doing so but on the other hand I keep buying more stuff so I don't even want to know where I stand now. I need therapy! Sometimes I sit and wonder what would happen to all those clothes if something happens to me! Lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. No more buying clothes for you lady!! :-) I would either get rid of the new stuff (return it, give it away, sell it) or wear the items before you hit the mall again.  You will be shocked at how many outfits you have if you use what you already have in your closet to come up with new combos. Give those clothes the wear they deserve! ;-)

  28. omg ,love , love everything , gorgeous! xoo

  29. OMG this is the story of my life! I finally decided that I was going to wear EVERYTHING in my closet or get rid of it by doing the old hanger trick. Turning hangers backwards once I have worn an item until I have worn everything (weather appropriate of course.) I finally wore a bunch of stuff that still had tags on it...some of them I had forever and loved them too much to wear "just yet."

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love that hanger trick! I read about it somewhere before but haven't tried it yet!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love the colors! I can't wait to wear new items, so much so that I normally wash it immediately and wear it the next day. Sometimes the same night!

  32. I totally know what you mean.  I just love knowing that I have something fabulous that is brand new.  After you wear it once, it's lost that "new" feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, I think that's another reason I do it! More fun to hold onto it and have something new to wear later. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I literally tried to buy this exact outfit today from the Limited (online)!  But they only had a 4 in the skirt and a large in the top, so wasn't going to work for me.  I want more of a work option, so I'll try to ASOS skirt maybe - any more suggestions on the top?!

  35. Lauren, this top from TopShop was the closest I could find! Very similar color, hope this helps. :-) http://www.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=270082351&pid=uid2641-1460879-79

  36. I used to save my favorite items... but then all I did was admire them hanging in my closet.  I think I've adopted more of a "use it or lose it" attitude since I don't remove the tags on my clothes until I wear 'em... so I still have a chance to take them back to the store. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I often hold off on wearing a new to me item when I have trouble coming up with the "perfect" outfit to make it's debut. :) I often have a look in mind when I buy something, but it doesn't always work out in reality. Hah! Royal blue is my current favorite color (couple weeks ago it was coral). I also recently wore it with a turquoise blouse, see here. Beautiful combination! Really like how you added a pop of neon yellow. I'm dying over this detail!

  38. J, I do procrastinate too.   I tend to think that anything new is for "best" or some special occasion, even if it is a very casual piece.    My SIL seems to wear her new things all the time, then they burn out quickly.   I think I need to take some cues from her!   I'm getting better though, and enjoy wearing the new things when they are still new.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I do the exact same thing! My problem is that I wait to wear a particular item because I can't come up with any ideas of what to wear with it! Take for example: http://www.thelimited.com/detail/loose-stitch-cardigan/5758763. I bought that two months ago, and have yet to wear it! I don't want to wear it with just a white cami like the model, but I have no clever ideas! (Any suggestions would be great, J)

PS: I saw that top at The Limited and did not like it one bit. It looks so great on you! I feel like sometimes you can't judge a piece of clothing based on its appearance on the hanger-- you have to try it on! (Although this would make for an entirely cumbersome process!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, I am the same way!! I love to wait to wear stuff so much that I
will leave the tags on and prefer to leave it in the bag for as long as
possible- for some reason, when I take the tags off and hang it up, it
doesn't feel new anymore! Btw I'm loving your color blocking here and
love the colbalt blue skirt! I might have to buy that Limited one!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kate, things can definitely look different on the hanger! I have found that with enough practice you can start to pick out those things that will look good more easily but items can still surprise you from time to time. What color Limited shrug did you get? Let me know and I'm happy to make some recs!

  42. Actually, since I had virtual dollars, and the tops were 30% off AND buy one get one half off, I got both the stone and the green. Any recommendations would be fantastic! Thank you so much! I think it is so cool that you take time to respond to all your fans :-)

  43. Happened upon your blog while searching for "blue cobalt skirt."  I just bought The Limited version a few days ago and cannot wait to wear it...I'm NOT a procrastinator, I usually have to fight myself not to wear it out of the store.  Can't wait to read more!

  44. I thought I was a total weirdo for doing this, so glad to know I'm not:). I do this & I don't know why. I "save" my best clothes for the perfect event.

  45. Kelly, welcome to the blog!! :-)

  46. Kate, I think it's half the fun! :-) For the green cardigan, I love to pair that color with other neutrals, so a gray or white shirt and some khakis, or over a striped shirt and jeans. For the stone color, I usually keep lighter cardigans with light colors, so I would go with a light blue top and khaki bottoms, or a pale pink dress, something along those lines. And for a fun shape you could wear either over a casual collared shirt and belt around the outside of the sweater!

  47. This is a great post to bookmarked. because i love these colors with great cheap prices. i will also shares it with my friends on Facebook.

  48. I totally do the same thing! I feel like I don't want to "show it off yet" or there might be a "better event to wear it too!" I sort of thought I was crazy- glad to hear other ppl do this same thing! It's like hoarding something and not finding the most perfect place for it! Even when I do have that 'favorite' item, it's always hard for me to re-wear it again b/c I just loved the first outfit I wore it with...I guess I'll just have to find a better outfit for the 2nd time around!

  49. Hi J.. Im a new follower and I LOVE all your outfits! I tried buying something similar to this today and couldnt find the skirt or the shirt! So upset!
