Today's Everyday Fashion: The Shorts Suit

I love shorts, so the idea of a shorts suit really.... suits me. ;-) I think this Kardashian looks professional, edgy and sexy all rolled into one. I don't have a true shorts suit, so I gave it a try using some tailored white shorts and a taupe suit blazer. I totally love the end result, there is just one thing I'm unsure about - where in the world do you wear something like this? Work is out of the question (hemlines should be 3-4" inches above the knee at the most), and Kourtney appears to be possibly coming out of a courthouse, but I don't think us common folk could get away with this look in a court of law? What do you guys think - does this work in real life?

  1. I think it looks great if you are just going out on the weekend, shopping or with friends, but I wouldn't ear it to  work. Especially not with short shorts.

  2. This outfit is one amazing - you look so incredibly polished!  I love the shirt - do they still sell it at H&M?  I'd love to purchase one!

  3. I wouldn't wear a short suit to work - but I would wear it to a business casual event or maybe out with friends (depending on how fancy we are getting!). I really love that jacket.

  4. Although I like the look, I don't think I would have a place to wear something like this!  Maybe a girls night for dinner and drinks?  If I did this look, I would probably do it with black shorts and a black blazer instead.  I do like your take on it and your purse is fabulous!

J...love the look!!!  I wanted to see if you had used your Chinese Laundry groupon yet?  And if so, on what?
If not, do you know what you plan on using it on?

I purchased one too, and am trying to decide if I should purchase sandels, or wait to see if they come out with something for the fall.  Just wanted to see what you had decided to use yours on....Thanks!!

  7. I think it would be a perfect outfit for a little bit of al fresco dining in the summer (or maybe a good way to beat the heat but not freeze in the air conditioning!)

  8. I've been loving the shorts with blazer look recently, and plan on trying it out myself soon :)

  9. Depending on the length and fit of the shorts I have worn it to work. I think the shorts need to fit more like dress pants though... nothing too short or too tight. I actually did this monday with a black dressy short that hit almost mid thigh (like the ones in the second photo above but mine were looser), black blazer, flowy silk top tucked in, and cute flats. I think if you do it with flats it can be work appropriate. Heels make it a bit too sexy for the workplace IMO.

  10. J, you totally wear that better than KK. :)

  11. I have totally rocked this before to work.  My shorts are longer though, to just above the knee.  They sell cute ones at Express, or NY & Co.  and I wear them with either closed toe heels or peep toe, (I'm in the corporate world)., no strappy platforms for me at work.  I would wear your outfit pictured to a meeting with a vendor for my wedding, or to a bridal shower or to happy hour or something.  Looks great on you!  You could have worn that to a blogger conference maybe?

  12. I absolutely love both looks but would feel uncomfortable wearing shorts like that to work - maybe to an office party or a lunch/dinner date? I would wear it to work if the shorts were a bit longer like the one's from Macy's.

  13. i love this idea, but i thought the same thing.  i tried the shorts and blazer look recently, but i wasn't sure where to where it.

  14. I'd love to be able to wear short suits at the office!

  15. Lori, that is a great suggestion! A blogger conference might actually work, although I still tend to like to look "professional" for those types of things. Great idea though.

  16. Stephanie, no I haven't used it yet! I'll post whatever I decide on to Shop J's Closet though! :-)

  17. Totally sums up what I'm thinking here - this is way too sexy for a daytime/work look, and yet for night it's way too "professional." This may be one outfit that only celebs can wear!

  18. Thank you! I got the shirt last fall I believe?

  19. Emy, I changed the caption because this is definitely NOT an appropriate work look! Eek! That was my whole point though - this is way too sexy for a
daytime/work look, and yet for night it's too "professional" so where in the world do you wear it? This
may be one outfit that only celebs can wear!

  20. I was getting ready to say the same thing ;-)

  21. I'm confused - it says Kourtney in my post. Is that not what is showing for you?

  22. I definitely think it looks chic, and yet very professional.  I love the gray and white together.  It's definitely the blazer that makes the outfit pulled together and professional.

  23. I totally agree, I couldn't get away with this for work where I live. But I've seen that photo of kourtney before and loved it. Oh to be a Kardashian and able to get away with anything! Love your re-creation :)

  24. I work from home, so I definitely could wear this to work ;)
I definitely love this style though!

  25. I love this look!  This is perfect for daytime, and can be easily made into an evening look by adding a black blazer and black shoes.  It is so sophisticated.  Hope you are having a great day!

  26. love this look, but I think I would get stared down in the office. It's too cute, but not modest enough for staff meetings...still love itttt

  27. Nicole, I think shorts this short are a definite no-no for work, no matter how casual your dress code! :-)

  28. I always like your outfits more than the inspiration photo. I love this outfit! Maybe it would be more practical in real life if the blazer was made out of more casual material? Then it would have the same great silhouette, but you wouldn't feel overdone for i don't know, going shopping? or lunch with friends? maybe? haha. I'd wear it anyway.

  29. I love this suggestion! A linen blazer would totally work here, and would lessen the "professional" tone  for a day of errands. Kudos. :-)

  30. first let me say i am loving the bag you have!!
i like this look, but think it is for people that are younger than me
don't think it is appropriate for anyone over 35 and should be a weekend type look
    you are rockn' it though

  31. it says Kourtney... i think they are just 'quick jumpers' ;^) lol

  32. I would totally wear this outfit to happy hour or dinner or maybe to a nice bar for cocktails. I wouldn't wear it for my morning errands but an afternoon/evening out with the girls? Why not? I love it!

  33. I actually think this look besides being terrific, stylish, elegant, chic yet sexy is quite versatile. I can see this going to a nice lunch in a warm area like Florida or for a dinner and cocktails out be it west side or east side. I also think this is a modern take on something to wear to a brunch, bridal or baby shower.
