J's Everyday Fashion: The Sequin Skirt

I have always loved sequins. As a little girl I had my mom make me a princess costume for Halloween and it was covered in blue sequins. It still holds true for me today - I love the texture, the shine and everything about them. They say "party" to me, and who doesn't want to have a good time everyday!? Thankfully the trends agree with me, because sequins are no longer reserved for New Year's Eve and cocktail parties, they are also okay for daytime and even the workplace (depending on your dress code of course). I have always loved J.Crew's mix of military and sequins, and while it's certainly a bold statement, I would wear this to the office, or to a retail job at the mall. How about you though - would you be bold enough to wear a sequin skirt to your job or a daytime event?

  1. I LOVE sequins and never know how to wear them. I probably wouldn't wear that to the office though. I wear boots and get comments how I'm "dressing up." Um, they are just boots people!

I also have a CUTE sequin dress I bought that I have no idea how or where to wear it to. I say the next Orlando lady blogger meet up be all sequins!

  2. I am SO not a sequins girl, but the skirt is adorable. I'm not sure I could pull it off at work, but for a night out then I am all for it.

  9. My office allows jeans 5 days a week and the last time I wore a sequins tank under a Military style jacket it was "WOW, are you going somewhere after work?"  I love sequins so I would wear this to a late afternoon function!

  15. My city (Spokane) is pretty casual overall and my office is very traditional so sadly I don't think I could get away with a sequin skirt anywhere!  I love sequins too!

  16. Yes I would and I did wear a sparkly tank to work and I got a couple comments about being so shiny, but I felt great all day.

  17. off topic here but I'm very excited to announce that today, I am wearing a skinny belt in honor of your blog. i've been wanting to try belts for so long and I even tried a couple of thick ones but they always looked so stupid. Well, I went to the gap this weekend because they were having a 50% of sale items sale and I got a cute coral dress and a grey snakeskin-esque skinny belt. I'm wearing them both together today and I'm excited because it actually looks good. Thanks for the guidance!

  21. I love sequins and have tons of shirts with them here and there and also a few tanks of nothing but sequins.  I wear them with everything... shorts, skirts, party attire.  You name it I will pair it with sequins.  Love this skirt and how you styled it.  I think I will be on the lookout for a sequin skirt this summer!

  24. Mary Beth, my Facebook page is a forum for stuff like this so feel free to post your question there! What kind of earrings are you looking for? Silver, gold, a stone color? Real or costume jewelry?

  28. Do you have any tips for finding such quality clothes at such amazing prices?

I can't believe what incredible deals you seem to get! Your outfits look very expensive, yet your price listings are always so affordable.

    You've got a real gift.

  29. Thank you Gabby! This skirt was a Black Friday find, and I bought the shirt on the day after Christmas (which is the best sale day of the year by far). I have a bunch of articles under the "How To Articles" tab - this one will probably be the most helpful in answering your question. http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/04/todays-everyday-fashion-secrets-of.html

  30. I love this look and that skirt is amazing and looks so expensive. Sequins are very in but I just don't think the work force is quite ready for them yet, with the exception of maybe a sequined shell/tank under a sheer top.
