Today's Everyday Fashion: Color Blocking

Color blocking: if you read fashion websites or magazines, then you've definitely heard of it by now. By definition, color blocking means blocks of solid colors worn together, and as you may have surmised it is a super hot trend for spring. You can buy items that come already color blocked, or you can do it yourself by pairing brightly colored separates together as I've done in today's look. You guys know that I'm color obsessed and can never get enough, so color blocking is definitely a trend for me! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this trend though. Are you a fan of color blocking? Would you wear head to toe color like in today's look?

  2. I love this idea, but haven't attempted it yet. I think it will be great for the summer months to add some pop, especially to work attire

  5. I love color blocking....... on other people. I am always in awe of those bold enough to try it, and it always looks great. I'm sure it would look nice on me, I just prefer to dress more neutrally with pops of color. When I try color blocking, I feel less like me- and I always like to dress for me! All that being said, you look aweseome. The color and structure of that skirt is to die for!!

  6. I LOVE IT! I just have a hard time putting my stuff together at home. And a lot of my stuff is outdated.. I need to update but it seems as I get older, I spend less money on clothes and more on house stuff... lol

  8. Ooh, I love it! Not sure if I could rock such a bold pink on top, but I'm liking the overall color combo. How recent is was the Forever 21 skirt purchase? I really like that color and now I want to go out and get it!

  10. Thank you Cindie P! I ordered the skirt online a couple weeks ago (takes that long just to get it in the mail!) but it's not on their website anymore. You could try the store though!

  12. I just discovered your blog through PBF and I already have gone through several pages! I LOVE it! I just got a new job and will start on Monday and know very little about fashionable but appropriate office attire. I love seeing your looks and seeing how what I already have can work together. I also love how all your looks are affordable and from stores I already shop at (although I never go to Banana Republic and I really like a lot of the tops/shirts you have from there- must go!) Thanks and I am definitely a reader now!

  14. @214b3d9166ea9a94914d7cc17c465f08:disqus , thank you and welcome to the blog! Transitioning after college can be really tough, but hopefully the blog can help with that. I love stores like Banana and Limited for basic pieces like solid skirts, but then Forever 21 is perfect for tops, jewelry and other accessories. Check out this article I did on the "Secrets of Shopping at Banana Republic" - I share how I get such great deals there! :-) Good luck and thanks for stopping by! http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/04/todays-everyday-fashion-secrets-of.html

  16. Maybe it is the former cheerleader in me, but I love, love, love this trend! I think my boss might have a heart attack if I rolled in with this outfit, but I really cannot wait to try this out for non-work days. I would be interested to see how you pull this together with a casual outfit.

By the way, I'm a new reader and I truly love your blog. I've even started taking a day to plan out my work outfits in advance so that everything is ironed and ready to go all week long. It prevents those mid-day what-was-I-thinking moments :)

  17. Thanks @b0f3196ac76058a1a236c8dc3a8d90b3 ! I have some casual color blocking stuff coming soon so stay tuned. :-) So glad you like the blog though, and I love that you are planning ahead! I'm not a morning person so I'm a much better dresser when things aren't left to chance.

  20. I don't think this is a trend that I would do. I love wearing a bright shirt... but usually with Jeans or black pants! Can you plllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasssssse do a blog post about how to dress for your shape? I'm a pear and would love some help!

  21. i do like colour blocking but am not sure i love the mustard with pink...i feel like the magazine is more salmon and so works a little bit better. i do have to say that you'd look great in a paperbag, though. you can truly pull off anything

  23. @5fddb1dfffcd32ae3fc204e19ae45797 I'm not "classically trained" when it comes to different body shapes, however, I will be helping women in all shapes and sizes dress their bodies in my makeover show which is exciting. The first episode will be online in a couple weeks so stay tuned!

  24. Love this look, J! For my taste, the pink is too, um, pink, but it looks great on you in Florida. Haven't tried this yet, but plan to review my closet. The secret of color blocking seems to be no black or white or neutrals - just ... color! Looking forward to seeing the casual version and your makeover show.
