Today's Everyday Fashion: True Blue
Don't tell the other colors in the color wheel, but if I had to choose a favorite it would be blue. Maybe it's my obsession with the ocean as a kid, or maybe it's the fact that there are just so many beautiful shades of it, but blue really is hands down the best color. ;-)
Why this works: I love outfits that use various shades of the same color. Here I'm wearing three shades of blue (my skirt is navy), but you can easily try this with other colors in your closet like different shades of green, pink, or neutrals like beige. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I normally shy away from monochromatic outfits (I need color, and lots of it!), but I've really been loving monochromatic blue outfits lately - I actually just posted a similar one the other day!
ReplyDeleteI think you should have busted out your jean shorts to match the inspiration photo! Ok, maybe a tad short for work... Seriously, though, this is a very nice work outfit. You look polished and professional, not to mention it still looks fairly effortless (I think it's your choice in jewlery...or lack thereof). I also think I just taught myself something about looking effortless! Enough rambling...nice job! (and I noticed you're sooooooo close to 1000 followers!!!)
ReplyDeleteMoms Have Style, Too!
Haha, I know I meant to say something about that. "Can't wear sequin hot pants to work? Here's your alternative!" ;-) Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThis is really really beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteblue is my top spring colour so i like this :)
ReplyDeleteI love the blue!! Great oufit... I have that same skirt :-)
ReplyDeleteYou SHOULD like blue because it clearly likes you! Love this outfit so classy and chic!

Hi! I have been reading your blog for a while now. Although certain outfits are not my style (or my type of weather--reader from the East coast here!) I read it everyday bc it gives me the chance to "brainstorm" LOL! Overall, I really think your blag is great!!
ReplyDeleteI have a serious question being a busy mom-worker-MA student. Do you make a list of your outfits? How do you arrange your daily outfits? I mean, every Sat/Sun I look at the weather and arrange my daughter's outfit for school accordingly. Should I do the same with myself? I notice that I tend to wear the same things over and over bc of comfort. Who has time to "match" outfits and be fashionable at 6am??
Thanks for your input!!
Thank you Nina, so glad you like the blog! I talk about taking a "planning ahead approach" to dressing in my Q&A, it's one of my biggest tips. I actually take my photos in one big chunk every week and I recommend the same type of thing for planning your work wardrobe. I'm barely awake in the morning and not feeling creative, so I prefer to make a list of what I came up with (or in my, case pictures) and pick something from that. If you're in a pinch, picking an outfit you've already worn also works!
ReplyDeletethat royal blue is one of my all time favorite colors! I absolutely love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of blue but i definetely love this outfit you look so chic and i think that your blog is great you are inspiring us everyday :)

I found your blog last week & love the whole "theme" of making magazine-esque / modele-sque looks, well, everyday-esque! This outfit is great - all the diff blues are wonderful & I LOVE how you kept it "fresh" w/ a light neutrual shoe / belt. I would have totally felt compelled to do navy or black - or be really risky w/ dark brown. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBlue makes me so happy, it's definitely the best color out there! Love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteLooking at your outfit makes realize I'm missing BLUE! I tend to shy away because I feel it's hard to pair but this outfit looks really pulled together. (The hardest part is usually pairing the shoes with blue). I think you just took the fear away! Thanks
ReplyDeleteWow... this seems like such an obvious combination but yet I've never though of it! I have a navy skirt, a blue boatneck and several light blue shirts just like that... I think I just found tomorrow's outfit!
ReplyDeletehey j! stumbled across your blog a few months ago and it is my new obsession... i check it even before i check email in the morning just to see what you came up with. love how you use a photo as an inspiration... so that if you don't have to sequin shorts in your wardrobe... you adapt it to make it work with the same color scheme, look, etc. that being said... how do you organize your outfit ideas from mags or websites for a quick resource? the j crew magazines i have saved are a little out of control... just looking for tips on how to keep ideas handy for everyday use when figuring out what to wear. good luck in all of your fashion endeavors... i'd buy your book!
ReplyDeleteLove this! It's definitely something I could wear to work on a warm spring or summer day. I'm an attorney, so I always have to dress up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah, I'm so glad you like the blog! I'm by no means perfect at keeping things organized but I use 3 folders on my computer. One is "Looks to Copy", another is "Best Bets" (looks I want to copy SOON) and another is "Past Inspiration" (so, looks I've already copied). It works well for my brain, but there might be a better way to do it! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove. It. Blue used to be my go-to colour. You're inspiring me to be more blue!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea you have here for your blog! And I like your looks better than the inspiring looks, actually. You have great taste, and you know how to dress yourself well!

Love this outfit and the color combo! I tried posting a comment earlier this morning but for some reason when I was at work the comment section wasn't showing up. Maybe b/c I wasn't logged into blogger?
ReplyDeleteThank you Mindy! Disqus (the comment section program) has been acting up really bad lately. :-( Sorry you weren't able to comment earlier but thanks for commenting now!
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me. I think your the most stylish chick I've encountered so far :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you did a great job transforming the look.
ReplyDeleteHi J!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say this is one of my favourite outfits! I just love the beautiful blue cardigan. I know you said it was old, but just wonder if you have seen this shade of blue cardigan this season.
Thanks for you all you to help us, your fans.
Thank you! I haven't seen anything recently but I'll keep an eye out for ya!

Thank you J! I just ordered it.I love it!
ReplyDeleteAgain, thank you for making fashion and getting dressed fun! I love your website and have learned so much about putting together outfits! This was always a problem for me- I would stand and stare at my clothes and not know where to start. You have REALLY helped me. Also, I showed your website to my "fashionista" sister and she was so thrilled to see your lovely outfits! She said after spending 2 hours on your blog, she had 36 new oufits she was going to put together using your suggestions. I have not heard her so excited in years... :-) Thanks again, Vina in Canada
Oh thank you! That is so awesome, so thank you for sharing this with me!! I'm so glad you both like the blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering if the belt in this outfit is silver or beige/cream coloured? Thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteThe belt is gold. The buckles on my shoes are also the same shade of gold! :-)
