Today's Everyday Fashion: Like a Lady
I'm headed south today for Miami Fashion Week! Be sure to follow to follow me on Twitter @jevrydayfashion for updates and pictures! (If you don't have Twitter, pictures of what I'm wearing will be up on Saturday.) Now for today's outfit...
Why this works: I love a super-feminine look and this outfit is an example of how to rock it at the office. The suit skirt is professional, but the pink cardigan and polka dots say "I have a soft side."How do you balance looking professional and feminine at work?
Occasion: Work
Inspiration photo: Bloomingdale's
Cardigan: New York and Company, $20
Shirt: LOFT, $20
Necklace: LOFT, $15
Skirt: Express (really old)
Shoes: Steve Madden/Ross, $20

LOve this look. I struggle everyday to look both professional and feminine at work. My office is very dressy- as in I only wear suits or sometimes an outfit like yours. Some tips I have learned to keep it feminine: always wear high heels, try to pick more girly colors, skirts are always better then pants, blouses with ruffles and soft prints!
ReplyDeleteHave Fun in MIA.

Beautiful! All the pieces individually are awesome, but together they look so pretty! I don't think I would have thought to do pale pink with the black and white, but I love it!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your interpretation of this look. In fact, I like it better! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. A perfect balance of femininity and professionalism. I, too, dress up for work. Some days are more formal (suit) while others are more business casual. But striking that perfect balance is something I struggle with. Thanks for another inspiring outfit :) Have fun in Miami!

The pencil skirt is the best weapon for work, and sweeter tops, shirts.Femine necklace, pearl.Nice heel pumps( im 160 sm so thats importatnt)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this combo. I usually combine a feminine dress with a mono-chromatic cardigan, tights and boots so I look professional, but not too dressy or over done.
ReplyDeleteI love this one!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so classy and cute and those shoes are gorgeous!!!

I do have another question, I love to clip magazines for great looks, but I notice you find alot of yours online. How do you keep up with them? Can you give us some insight as to how/where and definately WHEN do you keep up with your inspirational looks?
ReplyDeleteLove that someone else does it too! :)
Can't wait to try that look! And I definitely need to head to Ross for cheap shoes! Thanks for the always inspiration!

This is one of my favorite professional looks so far. I might have to copy it at some point!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy I found your blog! I follow many fashion blogs but yours is the first one that has truly felt like "my" style. I've scanned so many posts and photos and I love them all!! I'm so excited to finally find someone I can channel when choosing what to wear... Oh, and thanks for the tips in the Q&A about planning ahead and taking the pictures for your blog on the weekend. I wondered how people get those fabulous photos every day. lol I'm SO not a morning person either and I look like a hot mess by the time I get off work. lol I'm looking forward to the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI never would have paired this peachy-light orange-ish (I have it too!) cardi with black and white. I might steal this look!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very girlie outfit...I love it :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and very girly. I love it! As a teacher of small, messy children, it's definitely not a look I could rock. Outfits like this sometimes make me wish that I could work in the corporate world. Not that I'd like the WORKING part, but I think I could get used to dressing the part!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lindsay! I'm so glad you like the blog, welcome!! :-)
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Just please link to my blog~ Thanks for asking. :-)
ReplyDeleteSue, I always cite where the photos are from in the caption. I probably save 3-5 photos every single day, I just save them as I find them online. My two main sources are retailers and magazine websites. My favorite retailers for inspiration are J.Crew and Shopbop, but subscribe to email for hundreds of company so I know when they have new lookbooks out. I also subscribe to newletters from fashion websites like Who What Wear, Refinery 29 and FabSugar, which are a huge source of the photos I use as well!
ReplyDeleteAllie, I got the LOFT shirt last fall!
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your blog! It really inspires me to get excited about changing my wardrobe. I am going to pretty much start over with my clothing because I am still wearing clothes I wore in High School (I am a Junior in College). I need to expand my clothing with staple pieces that are a little more mature. I am conservative but my style is pretty similar to yours!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you had any advice on the first items I should purchase when starting my new wardrobe? And I also had a question on sizing of Cardigans, If I am in between sizes on Cardigans (probably because I don't know how to wear them properly). How do I know the cardigan fits right? Do you normally buy V-neck cardigans or regular cardigans?
Thanks for your help,
Amanda

Great outfit! I would have never thought to put that top with that cardi, but it looks so amazing. I'm going to have to get more daring!

Thanks Amanda! Getting started on a new wardrobe really depends on your occupation and the climate you live in. Overall though I would focus on the bottom half first. Pick some bottoms and shoes, because they are harder to find and they are also the more expensive items. You can also get away with wearing them over and over again. Then buy a bunch of inexpensive tops and accessories that go with the bottoms to mix things up. As for cardigans, you should be able to button it without major puckering. I prefer v-neck cardigans but that's just a personal preference! Hope this helps! :-) J.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time finding the items in your pictures online. Like the shirt in this picture, for instance. If you just got it this month, I should probably be able to find it, right. Although, by the price, it looks like it was a sale find??
ReplyDeleteSusan, none of these items are recent. I have clothes from 5 years ago (like the skirt in this photo) that I use in outfit posts all the time! The shirt was last fall, and it was super-on-sale.
