Today's Everyday Fashion: Runway to Reality
Runway looks are not easy to re-create. They are often meant for one thing and one thing only: the runway, which means turning them into a real-life clothing situation can be a long shot. But I fell head-over-heels in love with this Rachel Roy look and knew I had to give it a try! This navy-turquoise-camel/orange could be one of my favorite color combos yet (thanks Rachel!) and I love that it's work-appropriate to boot. Do you follow any runway designers or high-end fashion? If so, who are your favorite designers?

Love your look way better than the runway one! Much more accessible and flattering!
ReplyDeleteLove this look..so perfect for work. Glad you skipped the tights. Too heavy looking (I am sure it was for prefall) but still liking a bare leg with that color skirt.

Love this look and congrats on being featured in InStyle magazine. That's awesome! I bought the exactly same cardigan after seeing it on you :)
ReplyDeleteCute skirt! I need to find one like that!

congratulations on the InStyle feature! What an honor! Everytime you wear that cardigan I'm a little jealous - it's such a wonderful shade of orange - my local gap is a big one and I don't think I ever saw that cardigan there, unfortunately. :(
ReplyDeleteLove that color combo! Congrats on the feature, so cool!

this outfit is stunning! congrats on the magazine feature, well-deserved! :)
ReplyDeleteps. I love so many designers, but if I had to pick 2 of my all time favorites, they would definitely be Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.
ReplyDeleteWhat size cardigan did you get? Also, where did you get those shoes...I LOVE them and can't find them online!!
ReplyDeleteCute look and Congrats on Instyle

Nice look (though its more editorial/catalog than runway)...
ReplyDeleteI really like your look a lot better, without the stockings. I never really liked the orange-blue-black combination, but yours is fantastic. And I have to say your watch really is the perfect match too.
ReplyDeleteI love how you push the boundries of color combination!
Oh, and congratulations on the picture in InStyle! We get it a little later here (Norway), but I'll keep mye eyes open :)

In all of your outfits (that I've seen so far) you're wearing high heels. Could flats work with these outfits? If so, would you recommend rounded toe or pointy toe? Love your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up that my skirt is navy, not black! :-) Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteAccording to FabSugar, this is a runway look. (sometimes they are taken as still like this, versus on the actual runway).
ReplyDeleteI got an XS and it's humongous on me, so I would size down if you can. I got the shoes from Endless, they were selling them at Sears but I don't see them online anymore!
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan is still available online (link is in caption) but the prices are always higher online unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteI never wear flats because my feet are humongous for how tall I am/how skinny my ankles are. You can definitely wear flats with this (and most of my outfits) though. I personally prefer a pointy toe, but either would work! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteDon't really follow any runway designers, but great look. Congrats on the Instyle feature and can't wait until mine arrives!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I will definitely pick up that issue of InStyle. I am very excited for you. You deserve it for ALL the HARD work you put in for the EVERYDAY WOMAN. To be totally honest, your blog is the only one I follow faithfully. Haven't missed a post since the day I found it. It is AWESOME and should be recognized.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit as well. The color combo is great. I would rather it with a navy than black anyway.
Again Congrats!
Congratulations on the In-Style shout-out!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! And I love this look
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the InStyle feature! As a quick question, I wanted to ask how your Michael Kors watch is holding up through all of its fabulous wear - I read a review that the color starts to fade after a bit - has it been staying strong for you? Definitely considering it for myself if that's not the case. Looks so great with every outfit!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The watch already has some scuffs on the outside of the band that sits on the inside of my wrist. I've had other watches that did this, but I'm surprised it happened this fast! :-(
ReplyDeletePretty! I saw you in InStyle yesterday, too cool-congrats!
ReplyDeleteMy mom told me today that were from the same area of Florida....follow my fashion journey. stylebyyvonne.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletei love your ideas on taking a picture and making it reality.

LOVE this!! J, what fashion blogs do you follow?? I can't find it anywhere on your blog but I would love to know. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI started mine because I couldn't relate to all the fancy photography on other blogs, and many "everyday" blogs have tiny pictures you can't really see. In other words, none of them were really speaking to me so I started my own. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense for sure. I always wonder how they have the time and access to a photographer to do all those Anthropologie-looking photos. They are beautiful but....
ReplyDeleteHaha, exactly! Who has the time! I'm planning to buy a nicer camera eventually, but having someone take my photo is out of the question. Not gonna happen. :-)
ReplyDeleteI just have to add that I am learning so much from your blog! It is so crazy but I just never thought of fashion as something that could be studied or learned...I thought you either had it or you didn't but I have always wanted to have that pulled together, chic look but I just didn't know how to take it all the way. But now, with your help (and a few others) I just might get there! Thanks J!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!! You are very welcome. I am living PROOF that fashion can be learned!! I used to not have a stylish bone in my body!! No one in my family is into fashion, so I taught myself. But would have been nice to learn all this stuff from someone, which is why I pass on my knowledge to you guys. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey J! Can you help? How would you style these shoes for a work outfit? (no jeans)

many thanks!!!
Congrats on you appearance on InStyle!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, you have so many options for these because they are black and brown. You could do a black pencil skirt and a black & ivory printed or striped blouse. You could do a ivory or taupe skirt and black shirt. You could do a mustard cardigan and camel skirt with a green belt. A khaki safari shirt-dress would also look really cute with these!
ReplyDeleteThank you Terri!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I will be wearing this cardigan like crazy! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you J!!
ReplyDeletethis i like!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! My issue came today. i love how you translate outfits; it's helped me so much!

ReplyDeleteI love this look and I love the way you recreated it....and I have to say I love your look waaaaay much better than the runway models :)
Hello! I was wondering if you knew the name of the actual cognas colored shoe you are wearing? I think its by Restricted but I can't find it anywhere!
ReplyDeleteThe style name is Wildcard. They were selling them on the Sears website but I think they sold out. Check out my Facebool page though, a bunch of fans posted links to similar shoes yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and absolutely love it! Rachel Roy is one of my favorites too---do you follow her on Twitter? I love seeing all the inspiring quotes/pictures she puts up--camel, orange and navy are here to stay!
