Today's Everyday Fashion: Sequins for Work
Why this works: If your office is super-conservative, sequins might not fly. But in a creative office, a touch of sequins like this is perfectly acceptable. Keep the rest of your outfit professional (a blazer and some dress pants should do the trick) to show that you still mean business, and you're good to go!
Occasion: Work
Photo left: Ann Taylor Facebook page
Jacket: Banana Republic, $75
Shirt: Arden B, $25
Pants: Gap, old
Belt: Limited, $15
Necklace: Banana Republic, $20
Watch: Michael Kors, Christmas present
Shoes: BCBG/Ross, $23
Today's shoes are from my new favorite store: Ross. I ventured in there the other day to look for some black pumps and couldn't believe the prices! I bought the shoes I'm wearing today for $23. They are BCBG, the same style below left (except mine are nude patent) that are going for $89 on Heels.com. I also bought the Steve Maddens on the right for $19.99 (except mine are black patent), and they are going for $79 on Shoemall.com. See what I mean? The prices are crazy. What are your favorite hidden gems for great deals on shoes?

Bummer, I wish they had a Ross up in New England!
ReplyDeleteYou look great and thank you for the idea. I have a meetup with business owners in the beauty industry this week and its right after work. I may do something like this.
ReplyDeletewelcome to the world of Ross!!! Idk if it's the same where you are, but if you visit a couple of Ross in your city you'll identify yourself with some stores better than others. In Denver there are tons.. although I like to visit a couple, there is an specific one that is my go to.. I can always find what I'm looking for and more.. I find it that the style of the store matches the area it is located in... and oh the pants looks great!! as does everything else!
ReplyDeleteI need to go to Ross. I tend to go either TJMaxx or Marshalls but never Ross. I live in the Kendall area of Miami and for some reasons the Ross stores I've gone to seem to be really messy and disorganized. Is this common in Ross stores? Should I learn to love Ross hence the mess?
ReplyDeleteI've only been to the one Ross store and it was really clean/organized. I'm planning to check out some other locations though so I'll let you know! :-)
ReplyDeleteTotally makes sense! That's how it is with TJ Maxx locations around here. Some are way better than others!
ReplyDeleteNever a big Ross fan but I know that they are different depending on which area they are catering to. Which Ross do you go to? I live in Central FL too.
ReplyDeleteI went to the one in Waterford Lakes, it's between Target and TJ Maxx.
ReplyDeleteJust a random question not related to this post - what do you think of these two boots? I can't decide whether to buy the ones on sale or splurge.
ReplyDeleteDolce Vita Pax in Natural - found them for $70

Frye Jane in Redwood - for ~$300

Can you tell me the style name of the BCBG shoes? I LOVE THEM!! The link you put up are both for the S. Madden shoes....I would love to try to find the BCBG shoes and order them. TY!
ReplyDeleteI love the Frye ones. I have a pair of Frye booties I got on sale for $70 and they held up through 3 winters in Boston. For me $300 is too much for boots though (I also live in FL and my budget is $250/month). Did you try Googling the style name? I did quickly and it looked like some sites had them for around $225?
ReplyDeleteFixed the link!
ReplyDeleteLove this look!
ReplyDeleteI am in love w ross and try to go a few times a month. I can always find a ton of great pieces at a great price!
ReplyDeleteI love wearing sequins. I have a black sequins tank that I wore to work the other day and received many compliements. I blog the look on my blog

You're doing a wonderful job with your blog... I look forward to each day's new outfit.
6pm.com is a great site for cheap shoes. And their shipping is fast.
ReplyDeletegreat outfit. The gold shirt is gorgeous
I'm obsessed with my outfit. I LOVE sparkles, and the jacket totally makes them work appropriate. You go, girl!
ReplyDeleteand by that, I meant I'm obsessed with THIS outfit. my bad... typo! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I can't believe you have never been to Ross before! I go once a week and only shop the shoes (cannot handle the racks full of clothes and they don't have the better brands like they do in shoes!). I get so many great shoes from them...Nine West, BCBG, Carlos Santana, Steve Madden and Report. I even once got a crazy cute pair of knee high leather Frye boots for $99!
ReplyDeleteOMG those shoes <3
ReplyDeleteOne of your best outfits J, nice job!!!
ReplyDeleteI will try the new one up here in Sanford/Lake Mary and let you know how it is.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is gorgeous. You really have an eye for recreating looks. I may have to start trying to gather inspiration pieces and do that. Looks like fun! You nailed this one. I love that sequined top and those awesome shoes. We don't have a Ross around here so I've never got to go. Sounds like a wonderful store though!
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know of someplace comparable to Ross in Minneapolis??? Just checked and we dont' have a Ross ANY WHERE near us!!
ReplyDeleteRoss is pretty much the same concept as Marshalls or TJ Maxx, bummer they don't have them near you! :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm actually JUST heading to TJ Maxx right now. I've never seen prices that good there though. . . I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice look for the office, and should the atmosphere be more conservative, how about a silver gray, navy, or black sequins. The workplace needs a little spicing up!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes! I've been searching for some great nude heals like these, but I wear a 5.5 so heals are hard to find in my size.
ReplyDeleteLove the new header! Looks great! And LOVE the new shoes!
ReplyDeleteYou should see the Today Show segment on high heels from today. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit...as usual!
I'm wearing sequins today at work too! Except in skirt form- although it's black which tones down the sparkle a bit, making it perfect for work. Also paired it with a similar long grey coat like the one in your picture, which I scored at F21 for $19! That was definitely a great find of mine recently! xo

Outfit looks good. I never thought about wearing sequins to work. I actually have the Steve Madden shoes pictured above so now I just need to find the right items to add to it.
ReplyDeleteI envy anyone who can pull off white pants. Oh the horrors those beautiful crisp white slack would see in my day to day life *laugh*. Beautiful as alwasy!
ReplyDeletecan't believe that shirt is from arden B! love this!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing you can always find great inspirations. Love the shoes. I will check my local Ross.
ReplyDeleteJ, Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog so much that I added it to my sidebar under "Blogs I love". Keep up the good work! momshavestyle2.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThank you Erin! I love it - moms can definitely have style too! :-)
ReplyDeletePlease do! Also, I have been to every TJ Maxx in the area and the one in Lake Mary is amazeballs. Way better than the other ones, you are lucky if you live near it!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It completely inspired my outfit for work today!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI really like this outfit for work. Something that I am currently struggling with as far as fashion goes is establishing my own style identity when it comes to work clothing. My boss is very conservative, however.... I am the ONLY female in my office of 6 others. Its been a challenge to see what works and what I can sort of "get away with" when it comes to style while still looking professional and keeping my boss happy.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a journey Teresa! I'm a big believer that you should love what you're wearing so keep trying! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am a big Ross shopper too!
ReplyDeleteare those steve madden 5 inch pumps your bought comfy? Cant wait to see how they look on you. could i get away wearing them casually?
ReplyDeleteI haven't worn them yet, but the platform is so big they seem amazingly comfortable!! I have one outfit idea with my torn jeans rolled up and a black blazer if you consider that casual. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOve! Gng to be talking about this on my blog today and showing off your look, :)
