Today's Everyday Fashion: The Sweater Cape

Anyone else super-excited that sweater capes are back in style? Not only are they adorable, but I think they are about the coziest thing around. (I could also be biased because I have two sweater capes, including this one, that I'm excited to pull out of storage!)

Photo left: My inspiration from FabSugar.com
Middle photo: My re-creation of Dakota Fanning's look
Right photo: I recently figured out how to belt sweater capes (big surprise, I figured out how to belt something!). The key is to leave the back open and just strap the front of the sweater to your waist! Which way do you prefer the sweater?

Occasion: Shopping, traveling, many a holiday activity
Sweater cape: Gap
Pants: TJ Maxx, $17 (recent purchase with my gift card)
Belt: H&M
Boots: Aldo, $75

  1. I was already starting to wonder how you belted the cape...and then I found out :) Love this look!
Once again your version is a lot cuter.

  4. Belted is wayyy better.

Also, there's too much going on with this outfit. I think it would look better with jeans and simpler shoes, because each piece you're wearing has so much detail.

  5. I like it both ways, very cute

  6. I'm in the minority here, but I much prefer the un-belted look. The cape seems to be a bit thick for the belt and looks squishy at the sides. I'm interested to see what it looks like in the back though.

  7. UNbelted for sure! Some things look decent belted but not everything.

  8. I prefer unbelted. The cape seems a bit bulky to belt. You are very thin, so you can pull it off. But I don't think it's for everyone.

  9. Belted! I love everything that is going on in this outfit! Fall is all about layers and texture and you got it!

  10. I like it unbelted better and I agree with "s" simpler shoes and jeans might look better... or maybe just simpler shoes. Love the pants and boots by themselves though!!

  11. Thanks everyone!!

Karebare, both of these looks look identical from the back! Only the front part of the cape is actually belted. And really the back of the cape looks just the same as the front - it's one big round sweater that looks the same on every side!

  12. I actually like it without the belt better! Think it looks kinda weird and scrunchy??

  13. Agreed, I like the unbelted look, but I think a big reason for that is that the pieces are very detailed...either way, super cute look, and I love the sweater cape!

  15. Wow, you make those cargo skinny pants look so great. I saw them in many stores but didn't know how I could wear them to my internship. Any ideas? It would be great if you could do a work emsemble with those pants. You rock!

  18. Ramnik, I will definitely post a work-type look with these pants eventually. I have a dark green pair that I've done quite a few work looks with!
