What should I wear with this skirt?

I was playing around last weekend with some ideas of what to wear with my new skirt from Urban Outfitters (scored online for $24!). The shirt in the left photo is a little to precious, and the outfit on the right is a little too rock-n-roll. So, tell me...

- Which outfit do you like better?
- What would you wear with this skirt?

  1. i love that skirt. I'd prob just wear a really simple top and let the ruffles steal the show! Out of the two you have i like the contrast in colors of the second one. and maybe a blazer on the first one to edge it up a little bit?

  5. Most definitely the 2nd look, love the hint of animal print.

  6. I prefer the second look! The black balances out the "girly-ness" of the skirt. Maybe a simple tank top might be a balance between the 2 looks?

  7. I like look #2 alot. The first top looks a little to much like pajamas.

  10. I think a simple light denim, short sleeved top would be cute. Nude shoes and a longer necklace with color.

  11. number 2 is better but i would wear a loose fitting plain black or neutral color tank top and let tuck it in loosely. maybe pair with some booties in the fall.. cute.

  12. I say definately the 2nd outfit. I'm not too crazy about the lingerie shirt (that's what I call them) you could wear either shoes with the 2nd as well.

  13. I'm not a fan of either outfit... I love the skirt but think it would be better suited with a simple top in a pale/pastel color and perhaps some cute flats or more simple pumps.

  14. I like look number 2 the best...maybe just wear it with a simple black tshirt, vneck or scoop neck.

  16. I like the second! I agree a simple neutral colored shirt on top, possibly a blazer, and booties to put on some edge on the pretty skirt.

  17. I prefer the first one...think black is too hard for this soft colour.

  21. I agree with anonymous! I think the second look but definitely needs a plainer shirt
    Also would like:
    - the second shirt with the first shoes
-any solid color tank (personally i would do olive green) or even a white button down
-skirt would also be cute with flats!

    Great find!!

  22. please don't take offense....you usually look absolutely adorable in whatever you wear....but this skirt doesn't do you justice and just looks kinda silly on you.

  23. Kathryn-

I am not friends with J, but as someone who has grown in their fashion sense and confidence simply from reading her blog, I have to tell you- if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all. A grown woman responsibly exploring fashion does not look "silly". I don't believe you would like someone saying that to you. J has a comment policy if you need a reminder. It is nice to be nice. It takes a lot more energy, unnecessarily so, to be rude.

  24. I love love the skirt! But..I would have to agree with someone else and say that I don't like either top...I think a more fitted, structured top, tucked in, in a light color, or even navy would look fabulous! The skirt is too flowy to pair with a flowy top...in my opinion anyways :) But I love your site! I am new, but I am following!

  25. J- I love the skirt. I would have to agree with the others that about a more fitted top. In "MY" opinion the skirt should be the main piece. Flowy top flowy skirt not sure but fabulous attempt!

  27. J. Second look is better but with the first shoes, and with a light color top ... this is the first time I've seen your blog ... love it ... I like fashion and clothes as well.
