Today's Everyday Fashion: Studded Pumps

Inspiration: Kate Spade

Top look: I may not own a sprinkled donut sweater, but that didn't stop me from re-creating this Kate Spade look. I paired a similarly-hued aztec tee with a navy polka dot pencil skirt, and while it's a tad busy, I do kind of appreciate the quirkiness for a creative office environment. Makes the work day more fun, no?

Bottom look: I like this outfit even more and can't wait to wear it. I got these shoes last year and was on the fence about them at first, but I love them to death this year. Studded pumps are everywhere, I'm trying stop myself from buying pretty much every pair pictured below.

Which outfit do you prefer? Would you wear studded shoes?

Blazer: H&M, $37 (similar, similar, similar, similar, similar)

  1. I like the second outfit...and yes studded pumps are adorable and edgy at the same time!

  2. I like the second outfit the best.  Studded pumps are a great way to add some personality to a work outfit without looking too crazy if you keep the rest simple.  The BCBG pair is my favorite from your selections!  Heather

  3. I'm coveting a pair of studded pumps.  I like that things seem to have moved away from the crazy spiked pumps (so. not. practical.)  I like these ones - http://www.callitspring.com/ca-eng/women/shoes/mid-low-heels/94235977-zacher/96&flagid=w13studs

  4. I think I like the first look better, or the second look with different shoes or a different blazer. I love the pieces individually, but I'm not sure about pairing the pink blazer and pink shoes together...my first reaction is "its too matchy" for me. The more I look at the pic, the more I think it could be fun for a girls night or something. Then again, you have a major style/fashion blog and I just play around with stuff in my closet!

  5. I like both of these outfits but I agree with you, I love the second one with the jeans! I love the studded pumps too, I really like the first and last ones.

  10. Thanks AJ! No matter how big of an audience I have though, I will always just be a tomboy playing around in my closet. That's why I always use the "Rachael Ray of fashion" analogy! :-)

  11. I love the second outfit and I love all the shoes... I have a pair of black Jessica Simpson peep toe heels that have gold studs that I love.... gives an edge to every outfit

  12. I definitely prefer the second outfit. I'm afraid two prints would be too much for my petite frame. I'm planning on picking up some studded pumps this season probably either in a neutral or black.

  13. I like your outfits much better. The donut sweater is over kill on that poor model. Love how you styled it. Love the studded heels. They are all gorgeous.

  15. LOVE both looks, especially the 2nd one.  I don't think it's too matchy at all;  I think it's pulled together.  I'm resisting studded shoes with the excuse that they're a fad.  That's my excuse, anyway.

  16. I like the bottom outfit with jeans and the pink pumps.  Very cute!

  17. I tried that top on at Express last night - it looks much cuter on you than it did me! I love that you paired it with polka dots.

  18. Oh man, I love your shirt! I really want to go find it at Express now! Thank you for giving me a reason to go shopping! Haha! Also, I think the link for that might actually be incorrect :(

Great outfit though! (And I like your shirt better than the sprinkled donut one!)

  20. Thanks Jessica! I just checked the link and it's correct but I think it is sold out. :-(

  21. Yeah, I checked it again too. I think you're right. That's too bad. But they do have another similar top that I'm looking getting. Very cute! :)

  22. Love the polka dot pants!  I need those!!
I feel like your Aztec shirt is missing the mark, and your second outfit is the best option :) Love the shoes, not a fan of donuts, but there are other fabulous graphic sweaters out there. I'd wear my French hen with this twist! Just need to find a reason for heels!

  23. I actually really love the quirky combo of the printed shirt and the polka dot skirt. Great inspiration photo!

  25. I really love the second outfit, but I'd probably just go with simple pink pumps...studs will most likely me out by next year and I can't make myself buy items that won't stand the test of time. Great skirt in the first outfit btw :)

  26. I am sorry, I cannot even imagine wearing this outfit or half of the outfits to work.  Women need to work so much more harder to get themselves taken seriously that dressing in the manner as you present clothes would not work in the real world.  Even though I am in a female dominated career, I am a teacher, I would not be able to wear these insanely styled and bold clothes you deem "work appropriate".  I appreciate your take on styling clothes to fit you and your situation, but applying these outfits to the real world would not work for me.

  27. Agreed! Hot pink is great with your skin tone, J! :)

  30. Buna,

  33. Both of the ways you wore this top are perfect. My favorite is the top one, though! I'm pretty much obsessed with anything studded. I love love love the three pairs of shoes in the first row down.

  34. Shotz, I can understand where you are coming from - the top outfit would certainly not work in some offices! And dressing well at work can mean promotions, etc. so it is an important topic for women to consider. Me saying that it works in some offices, isn't meant to imply that it works in all offices though. Quite the contrary - it's the responsibility of each reader to use their best judgment based on their individual dress codes at their place of employment when viewing an outfit. Unfortunately I'm not able to go through every work scenario in every post so use what inspires you and works for your life, and leave the rest. :-)

  35. J---I'd totally wear the top one to work! But I'm the marketing gal in a small office. Like you said, it's up to readers to use their best judgment! :) I love the second look the most....definitely recreating!

  36. I love the individual pieces of the top look and the mix of colors, but I agree that the overall look is a little too busy.  More than that, I think the prints just don't quite "go."  Polkadots are fun and sassy, a little bit retro.  The Aztec print is more bohemian, and for me, doesn't work with the shape or pattern of the skirt.  A more quirky print would look awesome though!  I love that you try outfits out and then share with us.  Whether they work or not, playing dress up is totally fun and allows for the most inspired creations, don't you think?

  38. Totally agree Cassie! I like to push the limits when coming up with outfits. It's often much easier to imagine how to scale back an outfit than ramp it up.

  39. These shoes are super edgy! Spikes/studs instantly modernizes a pair of shoes - they seem like they'd be a fun trend to wear.

  40. I love your *Neon* Sequin Aztec Graphic Tee ~~ WITH ~~ your *Neon*-Pink Blazer............ the bright colors really complement each other!! When you wear your pretty Neon-Pink Blazer, it's almost as if you're standing under a ceiling light, holding *a mirror* horizontally right under your face!! The "reflected glow" up onto your face
(from the neon-pink) seems as if it's also *mirror-bright*............ in addition to *neon-pink bright*............ (which is why I like to wear pink when I'm tired!!)............ and why your Neon-Pink Blazer looks absolutely *f.a.b.u.l.o.u.s.* on you, J.!!

The fuschia-pink Betsey Johnson Carrrie heels - (middle row, middle shoes, Above) - also come in blue, with blue rhinestones............ i.e., kind of a monochromatic, tonal, tone-on-tone effect............ which then looks like the heels, minus the bright-pink sole, could maybe be............ In Style Forever!! IF the Betsey Johnson Carrie heels were offered in a true mustard-yellow............ with monochromatic mustard-yellow rhinestones............ wouldn't they be *beautiful* shoes, too??!! ('Bet you could REALLY find "a couple ways," J., to style mustard-yellow rhinestone shoes like THAT, haha!!)

  42. I understand that you are not generalizing your outfit "inspirations" for all work environments. I honestly believe you can incorporate some of the ideas from the photos into your work environment. I never implied that you should "style" for all work environments, you are wearing and buying clothes that are suitable to your employment and/or situation. I think a major component of buying clothing pieces is determining your age to the current trends. I think many women feel that if they can fit into sizes or are drawn to certain trends/clothes that they feel it is acceptable to stuff their closet with these items that are only trends. There are many stores with the trendy pieces that are age appropriate. For example, he neon trend looks a whole lot different at LOFT than it does at Forever 21. The same applies for hemlines and cuts of jeans. Turning 34 recently made me realize that I need to stop and think about what is appropriate for my age, body type, overall fit, etc....What I wore 5 years ago I would not try to wear now even if I LOVE the trend or want to play around and have fun with fashion (that is what a lot of people state). I get that fashion should be "fun" but rocking outfits that are not appropriate place women into the category of, "what was she thinking?" I am not saying that my style is "boring" or "old", that is quite the contrary. I enjoy shopping and reading about the latest trends and what works, but I know when to stop. I am not criticizing you, so please don't take it that way. You are just putting your perspective from photos that inspire you.

  43. I love Kate Spade so I thank you for using her for inspiration =) This allows me to get that look without the price tag! Both looks are gorgeous but I would go with the first look-polka dots and bright pink?! LOVE!!! Thanks for posting! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
