Today's Everyday Fashion: Now and Later

When I first got this sweater, I immediately wanted to pair it with ivory jeans and colorful accessories for a spring/summer look (top photo). The day I actually wound up wearing the sweater, it was dark and chilly and my previous idea just didn't fit the mood, so I wound up wearing it with dark denim as pictured (bottom photo), and will be saving the spring version to wear in a few weeks! It's one sweater, two ways to wear it. One for now, and one for later! Which outfit do you like more?

  1. These are cute looks, but in my mind, they're only one "look." You have skinnies with pointy-toed shoes in both. I'd love to see it with an A-Line skirt or a pencil skirt...with a variety of layers...

  2. I really like both of these outfits but I think hands down my favorite is the "now" outfit. I think it looks a little more sophisticated. I love the necklace you're wearing with that outfit too. I ordered one that's kind of similar from Forever21 because I love yours so much!

  3. I really like the sweater with the dark jeans.  You can never go wrong with stripes.  I would pair this sweater with a pop of yellow or red, like a pencil skirt.

  6. I love the look with the light jeans and the pops of colour in the bag, shoes and jewelry. I love how yu can take a basic piece and give it such life just by choosing the right accessories.
    I have a lot to learn! :)

  7. Love the dark jeans look.  I'd definitely wear that out and about on a weekend, or with my kids.  The necklace is stellar too.  The ivory jeans look is not as much *my* thing, just because it's so snowy right now that it's hard to envision tropical colours anytime soon.

  8. I like the "later" outfit (the ivory jeans) better, but I would probably pair it with cute flats or loafers instead of a heel! :)

  9. Both are nice, but I prefer the look with the ivory denim.

  12. Cute! I just snagged a yellow striped sweater and can't wait to wear it. Also -- I love how you use pops of colors, especially with your shoes. Shows how versatile and fun those pops of color can be.

  16. I love that anchor sweater! Nautical looks are and will always be a favorite of mine. I think both your looks are great - one looks very summery and the other perfect for this time of year.

  17. I really like white denim with the color blue, so the first outfit was definitely my favorite. Both outfits are both adorable though!

  18. I like the outfit with the dark jeans, but how cute would this sweater be with white shorts in the summer?! I also LoOoVe the Vince Camuto top!!

  19. I love the sweater! But curious to why you call these two separate "looks" when they are styled the exact same way, only with different colored bottoms and shoes. They are essentially identical outfits with the exact same silhouette and styling.

And I'm confused to why you can't wear your ivory jeans until the weather warms up. Didn't you just put together an outfit a few posts back wearing ivory jeans? That looks to be an outfit for colder weather because of the turtleneck and blazer. :)

  20. Great questions Kimmie! See post above for updated commentary that should explain. I was operating on 3 hours of sleep and writing from an airplane so I totally can understand if what I wrote before didn't make sense! :-)

  21. And here is the original text in case anyone wants to read it. :-)

One sweater, two ways to wear it. I wore the second look (dark jeans) this past Sunday, and the first look (ivory jeans) I plan to wear once the weather warms up a bit. One for now, and one for later! Which outfit do you like more?

  22. Yes, totally agree Leah! I am definitely planning to wear this sweater with shorts this summer!

  23. I totally agree Skara! My original text didn't really explain well, so I edited it above! :-)

  25. I'd like to echo other reader's concerns that the outfits are cute, but similar. I used to come to your site to find variety and interesting ways to wear pieces. However, in 8 of your latest 10 posts, you are wearing skinny jeans. I wish you would show readers an outfit that involves a bit more creativity than skinny jeans and pencil skirts. Just a thought :)

  26. I like the first one more personally, I think the striped sweater looks best with white jeans.

  31. I can't decide which one like more! I think the white jeans look more fun/young/spring, while the dark jeans look a little more sophisticated/winter. I'm leaning more towards option 2 I think!

  35. My eyes drifted to the outfit with the white jeans because I've been dreaming of spring, but, living in Chicago, I definitely understand why it just doesn't work on dreary days. Love them both!

  36. i like the darker denin better but of course they both look great on you!

  37. I really like the "Jazz Blue" blue of your sweater............ i.e., such a *great* shade of blue for you;  and also not a very "common" blue----(to see in a  s.t.r.i.p.e.d.  sweater)----either!!

Another uncommon aspect of your blue "Coastal Road Trip Sweater" is the OATMEAL base color............ i.e., instead of a bright WHITE base color, you know.    Although I love bright-white stripes, I can honestly see how a slightly "toned-down" white----i.e., like an oatmeal base color----might (?) just be a little bit more versatile............ particularly in trying to find ways to "dress UP" your sweater.    Additionally, wearing your sweater's adjustable tab sleeves unbuttoned also gives you the option of a "dressier" look in the future, too!!    'ONE beautiful/versatile sweater----'TWO great outfits here, J.!!

  41. I love both outfits, but I think the orange bag would look better with the dark jeans version and maybe use a brown bag for the ivory jeans outfit.

  42. hi, this is the cutest sweater. did you order size S or M? I'm wondering if their sizes run small. I usually wear a small with other brands (Forever 21, Gap, etc.) Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi May, they run true to size! I am XS at Gap, S at F21 and I got a S in this striped sweater! Hope this helps.
