Today's Everyday Fashion: Minty Fresh

Inspiration: Pinterest

My enthusiastic, year-long hunt for the perfect pair of mint jeans is over... and it resulted in me owning not one, but two pairs. (These and the Gap Skimmers.) I normally wouldn't buy two items that are so similar, but lately my shopping planning hasn't been so much planning as winging it. Everybody makes mistakes (if I could go back, I would've held out for the Gap pair), but mistakes that result in twice the minty fresh denim fun can hardly be penalized in my book. ;-) What are your favorite denim colors for spring? Would you wear mint + leopard?

  2. What size did you buy in these jeans? The reviews say that they run a bit small. I wear the same size as you (0) so I was just wondering. Thanks :)

  13. The minty green jeans are definitely on my wishlist for spring.  I would also like a pair of pale yellow and coral.  My new favorite colored skinnies are lilac.  Leopard goes with everything, so I love your top paired with the mint green!  Heather

  15. I have mint, pink, and emerald-toned jeans. But really, I admire any of the bright colors and especially like the reds and blues that are so popular! Color jeans are so versatile and are so much fun to wear!

  18. Hi J!  I'd like to start off by saying that I tried to e-mail you privately but couldn't find a way to do that on your site. . . so I am commenting here instead.  I've been reading your blog for a while and it has provided me with some great outfit ideas.  (Yours was the first fashion blog that I started reading, and I now follow many other blogs and love them all.  Fashion blogs have definitely improved my daily wardrobe!)  As much as I love your posts and the format of your blog, I do have to question some of your tactics, such as your criticism of other bloggers, unwillingness to take constructive criticism from your readers, and your condemning other people for not crediting your blog while failing to credit theirs.  Today your inspiration photo links to your own Pinterest board; it seems to me that it would be more fair of you to credit the source of that pin, which happens to be another fashion blog.  I say these things not to be critical or mean; I honestly do love your blog and want it to continue to grow.  However, I know many people have stopped following you because of these types of things that (whether intentionally so or not) appear a bit shady.  I hope that you will consider "taking the higher road" - I know that it will only improve your blog in the long run!

  21. Why is it that on Pinterest you request that people give you credit when pinning your photos, but it is okay for you to not give credit to another blogger for their inspiration photo on your blog?  Could you please clarify your reasons for this?

  22. Hello,

Just wondering -- are the skimmers true to size? I love all those colors.

  23. I love Pinterest to death, but it has many copyright-related faults, and you have touched on two separate issues here. The first is when someone pins a photo and removes the link so that blogger/photographer/boutique doesn't get credit, which I feel is an absolute faux pas. I asked one person one time to correct this on Pinterest when I noticed that my outfit had 500 repins and was "uploaded by user." I only ever repin from other people on Pinterest (I am way not tech savy) and I would never, ever remove a link in a million years because I personally know how frustrating copyright is as a content producer myself.

The second Pinterest issue, is how do you cite where the photo came from? I don't have any personal knowledge of where this photo came from, other than Pinterest, and I'm providing the exact link where I found it on Pinterest. So I'm not sure how else I could be doing that better? If I cite the original source, that's not really where I got the photo so it feels deceptive to me. And if the link is working on Pinterest, it's still going to that original person. If the situation was reversed, I would have no problem with someone doing it the exact way I've done here, with my photo on their blog.

That said, as a blogger, I'm certainly sensitive to copyright issues and I'm always happy to change or fix a link if something is broken. I've done this many times for bloggers or readers who have provided additional credit info in the past! Just shoot me an email if that ever happens! :-)

  24. Yep, I got my usual size, and they fit great - the waistband is a little loose but not enough of an issue to pass them up in my book. ;-)

  25. If you click on the pin, it will take you to the pin's source. This particular inspiration photo comes from the blogger Little Miss Fearless. :-)

  26. Important point I left off - linking to Pinterest feels important to me so that I can give my readers direct access to the photo, and they can repin if they want, etc. If I link to the original website, a lot of times the photo is gone (if it belonged to a boutique, for example), or it's buried and impossible to find, but this way I'm giving you guys exactly that same photo. If I ever need to fix a link on Pinterest though, please be sure to let me know, I'm more than happy to do so! I am a huge supporter of other bloggers and want to be sure people can click through. I honestly didn't know today's post was a blogger's picture, however, I'm excited to find out that it is, and would love to continue featuring more pictures like this from the blogging community!

  27. "if I cite the original source, that's not really where I got the photo so it feels deceptive to me." When you put it that way, it reeks of plagiarism. Or laziness. Both of which I know aren't words you'd use to describe yourself. I think the issue people may have is that this is your job, and when your content relies so heavily on inspiration photos, you should really be doing your research and passing on those benefits to your readers. For instance, I love the necklace that the girl in the inspo photo is wearing. What if I wanted to find out where she got it? It seems like a small effort on your part to go the extra mile and fully source the links would be a service your readers would appreciate (I know I would!). When you source from Pinterest it's like you don't want to help make that connection for us. IDK, it's like, you'll go to the trouble of finding 9 different leopard print tops but not the original source of the inspiration photo? I expect more from your brand.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So if someone else pins a photo of you on their blog, they do not need to give you credit, yes?  Because the pic is from Pinterest?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Absolutely! I don't expect someone to see a picture of me on Pinterest and know what website it came from, ya know? If they link back to that pin in their citation that would be cool with me!

  30. I love this look! I recreated it today!! In fact, I recreate a lot of your outfits. Your blog has helped me "shop" my closet. :-)

  31. This is a great thread and I'm glad I read through it. I recently learned about tineye.com and so far, it's a good but under-utilized tool. You enter the URL and this site tracks all of the uploader sites associated with the image at the URL. As a blogger, you can add your photo URLs to the database and any search would lead right back to you. I try repinning from original sources whenever possible (unless I'm on my phone and using the app - haven't figured that out yet) and this site has made easier, but the database is still small. You can also enter an image URL into a Google Image search and it will display matching and similar results. When I did the leopard top round-up URL, for example, your site was the third result. Not bad!

  33. I did the same thing with yellow jeans!  I found a pair on sale and even though the fit wasn't great, I went ahead and bought them. Then later, I found a pair I really liked at Gap and wished I had held out for those...  oh well... I think I'll turn the sale version into shorts maybe... ?
