Today's Everyday Fashion: Navy and Black

Inspiration: WhoWhatWear

I wore this on Wednesday for a birthday dinner! I paired an old favorite, the skirt, with a recent purchase, the jacket, to make it feel new again. I also got wild and mixed navy and black together, a la my inspiration photo (my jacket, shirt and skirt are all blue). Also, check out the tweeted/Instagrammed pictures below - Zara had tons of cute coats at their end of year sale, but ultimately this one was my favorite and the most practical for Florida. It's super-soft, textured, with frayed edges. Even on sale it was more than I would normally spend, but one of my goals this year is to buy less items, but items that I absolutely adore. (Although I did find some really cute (and cheaper) jackets during my search for similar ones, see links below!) Would you wear navy and black together?

Navy jacket: Zara, $90 (similar, similar, similar, similar, similar, similar)
Navy shirt: Banana Republic, $50 (similar, similar)
Navy skirt: H&M, $30
Black pumps: c/o Chinese Laundry (same)
Black purse: Michael Kors, Santa
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot website 1, 2
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website 1, 2, 3, 4

I think the jacket you bought was the best choice! It looks great on you!

  4. I love this look.  The stripes and the navy shirt really work well together, and gives me some inspiration to pull colored tops to this skirt!  (Once I get the 1st Banana option!)  And I was always nervous to pair black shoes (like the ones you are wearing) with a navy striped skirt, but you totally show us that it's possible!  Thank you!

    Happy Friday!

  14. I LOVE your look sans jacket. The jacket is obviously adorable, but when you take it off you can really see your lovely shape. I love that you have been embracing more black lately, since that tends to be my go to color, but you have inspired me to add more brown into my wardrobe (shoes, purses, etc).
Not sure if you watch What Not to Wear, but last night's episode was really great at emphasizing one of your main points- that you don't have to spend lots of money on designers to have a rich looking wardrobe. :)

  18. I love wearing navy and black together. I think it's really chic.  I think you have to be really careful to make sure it looks intentional and not like you got dressed in the dark. But I do love the combination.

  19. The Inspiration model's  b.l.a.c.k.  bustier top looks great with her skin tones............ and although your silky, sleeveless, ruffled top is such a deep  n.a.v.y.  that it's almost black, it really looks *super* with your skin tones, J. ............ (i.e., maybe even - only to me - moreso than a silky black version would)!!    If your pumps and purse were also deep navy, too, your outfit might then be "too deep-navy-saturated";  but with your pretty pumps and purse both being black, it's just............ the right  s.o.p.h.i.s.t.i.c.a.t.e.d.  complement............ TO the deep navy (and white) hues of the rest of your pieces!!    *Gorgeous* outfit!!

  20. I think this outfit looks best without the blazer because it makes this more feminine and you can really see the detailed ruffling. I love the skirt though, it gives a a bow-like appearance but more mature.

  22. I like this look on you - that skirt is so flattering for your figure (although a bit short for me). I'm glad that you ended up getting that jacket out of the options - I feel it's the most versatile. Buying quality over quantity is a great goal to have. It's something I've been working on as well. I think it's the smarter way to shop - instead of a bunch of cheap pieces from Forever 21, getting a few higher quality pieces will get your closet further. Of course F21 will always be fun, but not all the time haha

  23. I love navy and black together - even if it's just an accent (ie all navy and a black handbag or vice versa).

I love the jacket that you ultimately picked out - I think it looks the best on you.-FashionEdible
