Inspiration: Kate Spade |
Head-to-toe color is my go-to in the summer and I've been missing it. I wanted to figure out a way to rock fun colors in the winter, so I gave this inspiration photo from Kate Spade a try with my red cords. Kate Spade is a Jayhawk and grew up in Kansas like me, so a bunch of cheerful colors inspired by a fellow Jayhawk is pretty much my favorite thing ever. Would you wear head-to-toe color in the winter?
Shirt: LOFT, $27
Pants: Gap, $20
Necklace: c/o Ily Couture, $39
Purse: c/o Page 6, $48 sold out
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79
Also, an update on NYE dresses from my last post. I decided to keep shopping - the all-sequin option is too big (I'm worried about the top falling down), and the other is an empire waist, which is not my favorite shape to wear. I loved both for different reasons, but I'm looking for the perfect dress so I decided to keep searching. Someone mentioned Rent the Runway over the weekend, and a lightbulb went off. I've never tried it before, but NYE seems like the perfect time to rent since I won't be repeating a dress quite this extravagant, and they offered to let me try it out and share my experience with you. I reserved the two dresses below and they will arrive 12/28. Have you ever rented a dress? Which one is your favorite?

I rented a dress for the first time for a black tie Christmas party - I'm just a little nervous about not getting it until the day before the event!
ReplyDeleteYou really overuse the word favorite.
ReplyDeleteSO obsessed with the Kate Spade look!
ReplyDeleteJust featured some cute gifts under $25 on my blog and there's something from Kate Spade on there as well!

I never would have thought to pair those colors together, but I love the end result!

I've used rent the runway before. I was very unhappy with it. I spent over a $100 on a dress that I couldn't wear. I chatted with the representative, gave him my measurements and got the dress in 2 separate sizes after his assurances that with my height and heel height I would not need to order the long. It was a waste of money b/c for $100 I could have purchased a nice dress that I liked and got to keep. Besides, I still had to go buy a dress since I couldn't wear my pick from rtr. Just figured you'd like to get some input from a past user.
ReplyDelete1. LOVE the color combo of the outfit today... i'll have to try winter brites!
ReplyDelete2. the SILVER sequin dress on the LEFT is AMAAAAAZING

This made me so happy! Not only b/c the outfit is ADORABLE but b/c I'm Kansas girl too! My sis is at school at KU right now and we are all big fans. Didn't know Kate Spade was a Jayhawk, makes me love her all the more!

I have used Rent the Runway once and would do it again in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! I love wearing color as well, and do whatever I can not to spend winter in all neutral or dark tones.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really love that second sequined dress! I think it'd look gorgeous on you :)

Spot on with that look!

omg, great post! LOVE all things Kate Spade, especially the colors! Just ordered my first Kate Spade purse, actually :)
ReplyDeleteGood call on not going with either dress option... I think this silvery one is going to be great on you! LOVE IT ALL!!!!
I love the silver dress!!!
ReplyDeleteI did RTR just a few weeks ago -- fabulous experience. I did the long-sleeve full sequined mini. Would do it again for any event. XXX!
ReplyDeleteI think i would totally wear all color in the Winter, but i certainly would have to be in the right mood for it. Great dresses. I like the one on the right.

Last night I got a huge splurge shipment from J. Crew and nothing NOTHING fit. Either way too small (perfect shirts are so NOT perfect) or way too baggy on the waist. I would never rent anything for this same reason. I'm sure it wouldn't fit properly.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this outfit! Don't think I am brave enough to try it though! However, I do like wearing bright colors in the winter :) ps love the dress on the right!

I love the silver sequined dress, as it looks so festive.

Wow, you look great in all that color!! And I've never rented a dress before but I'm sure it's similar to men renting tuxes for big events :) I think the gold one would look lovely on you, J!!

So cute, and your outfit is almost the exact same as the inspiration photo! Yes, I would rock colors in the winter. I'd be a ray of sunshine in the cold darkness!! haha But right now I'm definitely drawn more to the neutrals. Lots of brown, tan, and black. It seems so cozy. :-)
ReplyDeleteCute! Love this mix :)

I absolutely love RTR! I have rented 2 dresses and both times have had a fab experience. I like dress number 2 the best. Definitely read the reviews on the dress you decide to rent because I feel as though they're really helpful with deciding what size to order. You can filter it by body type, height, weight, age, chest size..Anyway, if you click on ---> http://www.renttherunway.com/referral/brianna.rojas1 this link you can get $20 off your rental! Hope it works out for you :)
ReplyDeleteHi J! I actually was a college rep for RTR and i L.O.V.E. them! Literally best customer service ever and they send out so many coupons. Totally makes wearing a super designer dress for a special occasion worth it! But then again...when is wearing a super designer dress not worth it? haha I think you'll love your experience too :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, i read a user below's comment and you DO get a full refund if you don't end up wearing the dress! They really do want you to have a good experience.
ReplyDeleteI had a great experience with Rent the Runway for my husband's cousin's wedding. They allow you to rent a second size of your dress for free. The second size of my dress was out of stock, so they let me pick any additional dress on the site (I almost went with the second dress, but decided to go with my first pick!) Their customer service is amazing, and kept me posted every step of the way. They even emailed me when they got the dress back (they provide a free shipping envelope to send the dress back), so I wouldn't have to worry about if it had gotten back safely or not. The website is very informative and the reviews from other ladies were very helpful in deciding which sizes to order... if neither dress fits, they refund your order. Plus, they always have coupon codes, which is nice! I would definitely recommend it, especially if you're not planning on wearing that type of dress again!
ReplyDeleteI love this bright look today, the red jeans are a great addition to everyone's closet!

Love RTR! I wore a Badgley Mischka dress to my senior homecoming from them! It was an $8000 dress and I payed about $200 to wear it! Also, they sent me my size AND a size bigger (for free) just to make sure they fit! They arrived in beautiful garment bags, and came with super helpful stick on bra pasties, blotting papers, and a few other things! Hope you love your experience with them as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteLOVE today's outfit - so bright and cheerful! I signed up for Rent The Runway a few months ago, but have yet to rent anything. Curious to hear about your experience!
ReplyDeleteI love today's outfit! It is very bright and cheery, love the color blocking! That necklace is fabulous!

I love a head to toe color look since I wear so much black for work. I also love the idea of renting a dress for NYE. I'm thinking I may go that route too!

I absolutely LOVE RTR and I don't think you'll be disappointed! I think the one on the right is my fave but I'm curious to see how they look on you! Both options are so glamorous.
ReplyDeleteJ - can I ask you why you have the white blouse posted as $27 on this post, but at the LOFT website, it is $49.50? Did you use a discount code?
ReplyDeleteIt was a Black Friday promo! See this post for details: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/11/black-friday-shopping.html
ReplyDeleteROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the 2nd choice! I've rented 3 times for weddings and a my bachy party. I have had great experiences each time and will definitely rent again!
ReplyDeleteI like the silvery one on the right!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see which one you'll end up wearing. I think it was me who'd originally mentioned Rent the Runway, so I'm glad you were inspired to try it. Who wants to wear the really memorable show-stopper dress twice?
ReplyDeleteAs a Jayhawks myself, I feel the need to printout that KU is crimson and blue, not purple???
ReplyDeleteI *love* your head-to-toe color outfit----'so bright and cheery!! Also, your LOFT Pleated-Neck Back-Zip Tee Blouse in a "Moonlight IVORY"............ (i.e., instead of in a brighter/harsher "white-white" shade)............ helps to effectively *s.o.f.t.e.n.* the look of wearing #3 bright colors in close proximity!! Both white and ivory look great with your skin tone, J., but............ "Moonlight (Ivory) Becomes You"............ just *so* beautifully!! ('Couldn't help the musical reference: sorry!!)
ReplyDeleteI like both of the Rent The Runway sequin dresses a lot, but the dress on the right, (i.e., the Mermaid Lagoon Dress), is my favorite!! The Product Details say this dress is "MULTICOLOR sequin (100% Polyester)." Most of the online Reviewers said the sequins aren't just silver, i.e., as they appear on the RTR website............ but that the sequins are "pretty holographic"; while "the dress actually reflects the light, depending on where you are"; "and actually looks different in various kinds of lighting." (And, as you know, most interior Fashion Shoots are done with
w.h.i.t.e. Professional Studio Lighting, too). So, if you choose this dress, J., it might (holographically!!)............ just be your Special New Year's Eve *R.a.i.n.b.o.w.* Dress!!
Dress 2!!
ReplyDeleteI have a dress in the red/purple combo and never thought to wear these colors together. It's so fun! Love how you rock it with the cords!

I LOVE the silver dress! Cant wait to see which you choose. Either way im sure you'll look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI did a bright blue skinny cord the other day with a white v-neck tshirt and a teal cardi. I thought it was quite cute. I had a yellow necklace and yellow loafers. I really like your outfit. I think you look great in every colour of the rainbow.
ReplyDeleteJ -- Rent the Runway is awesome!! I just recently rented a dress from there and the dress was awesome. Because they are all designer dresses, the quality and material of all the dresses are much better, like no other found in a department store. And the fact that they send you two different sizes is a huge plus. I've also heard their customer service is amazing! Good luck! Oh..and I like the silvery dress on the right!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the color combo in this look -- the yellow bubble necklace really makes it stand out! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://allthingsprettyandlittle.blogspot.com/
I love this look and Kate Spade, but as a Mizzou student, I'm not a huge fan of the Jayhawks inspiration.
ReplyDelete"a bunch of pretty colors inspired by a fellow Jayhawk" = meaning Kate Spade came up with this purple/yellow/red color combination I'm wearing.
ReplyDeleteI love RTR... I rented a prom dress for my daughter 4 years ago.. the transaction went super smooth. Customer service is the best,... I love the silver dress.
ReplyDeleteI've used rent the runway several times and been so happy with every experience. I have a sort of difficult to fit body type (much bigger hips than waist) so I usually get a back up dress but I've always ended up getting something that fits and looks great. I was pleasantly surprised the one time I called and talked to one of their stylists - those girls know their dresses! You are smart to rent early though, a lot of nice dresses book up fast for holidays! I know from renting a dress for last New Years!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blog, check it everyday! And I Love the outfit!! I think using cobalt instead for the yellow necklace and shoes would awesome too!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the purple cardigan! I bought a similar one from Loft but it didn't work out sadly.
ReplyDeleteI like the RTR dress on the right better than the one on the left, but the one on the left might look really good on you.
I really want some red pants!
ReplyDeletegreat colors! I might have to try that one soon!

RTR is the best thing ever!! Done it so many times and always loved it,
ReplyDeleteFun colors :)

I love Rent the Runway (RTR) but they have very few choices for plus sized women (even though I'm only a 16!)
