Today's Everyday Fashion: Accent Color

Inspiration: Refinery29

Turquoise = always a favorite, and possibly the best accent color ever. I love wearing black and brown together, and turquoise makes them work oh-so-well in both the inspiration outfit and my outfit. Also, I want her sequin sweater. And in my head I thought my pants were the same color as hers. My mustard jeans might be a better match, but these camel pants haven't been worn lately and sometimes a more toned-down outfit just hits the spot. Do you ever wear turquoise as an accent color?

  2. I love those pants! They may not be the mustard shade from the left picture, but they look like they'd go so well with everything!

  5. love the bag! oh, so I just bought a new blazer from express and the fit is very weird. Could you do a post on how a blazer is supposed to fit in order to look "right". The reason being is sometimes people have wider shoulders or large chest variations and it just gets confusing especially when buying online to pick the right size :)

  10. Turquoise is one my favorite accent colors as well - I love how it pops!  I just purchased a sequin striped tee and will need to recreate this look.

  14. If I saw this inspiration photo in a magazine I would flip the page and not give it a second look. I love how you are able to see its good points and make it your own. I'm slowly realizing it's not that I have no fashion sense...it's that I need to change the way I look at fashion. Thank goodness I have you to guide me along on my journey! :D

  18. I have a turquoise bubble necklace and a bracelet. That's about as comfortable as I will get with wearing turquoise. Love the shoes.

  19. Turquoise is (one of!!) my *favorite* colors!!    In Town & Country
Magazine's May, 2005, issue, makeup artist Bobbi Brown talked about how
all of us have had those days when the reflection staring back at us in
the mirror can often be pretty darn "blah";  but a quick fix *for* that
    can be a TURQUOISE-colored necklace----(or even, I'd think, a pair of turquoise-colored earrings;
    or a single turquoise-colored scarf/top/blouse/shirt/dress, too)----which really brightens
all facial skin tones;  and makes the WHITES of your eyes and teeth
appear to be, (i.e., in contrast to the turquoise color)............
even "whiter-and-brighter"!!    Anyway, it seems like there's some shade
of turquoise that almost everyone can wear;  so............ (as you've shown us right here, J.!!)............ try it, it
    really does *W.*O.*R.*K.*!!

'Just loved watching your two "Great Day St. Louis" KMOV-TV video segments, too............ very useful tips!!

  20. J- It would be great to see some more holiday looks! I have a few holidays’ parties, some are house parties and I am having trouble pulling something together even though I know I have something to wear! Thank you

  21. Oh, J, I am SOO heartbroken - I want that BR bag, and I want it for $17!!! I know you linked to two similar ones, but I am so very picky about bags and those two will just not do!

That said, I love adding accent colors to outfits.  I feel more comfortable buying basics in neutral and adding color thru accessories... feels like it allows me more options!

  22. I love turquoise AND adding a pop of color, (phrase obviously stolen from What Not To Wear,) but I've never been a fan of using that color in more than one place in a look. I absolutely love your outfit, (much more than the inspiration photo!) but for me I'd have either the shoes OR the bag OR the necklace. Just my personal preference.

    Love the videos!

  23. I don't think I actually own anything turquoise! I suppose I reach for pink or lime green more often!

  26. Hi J! I love pops of color and your post inspired me. I have never shopped on Charlotte Russe's site before (I am older than their target demographic, I believe--ahem!) but I clicked on your #3 shoe and ended up getting them and a coral pair--there was a "deal" running where if you buy 1 you get another pair for $10 and I've been wanting heels in these hues--hope they work out! :)

  28. Very cute!  I need some different colors of shoes! :) I like how the front of her sweater is just a little bit tucked in.  I tried it the other day and it was a no-go! Could you write a post about tucking in shirts?  When to tuck, when not to tuck, how to tuck... I feel like such a dork when I'm trying my outfits 10 different ways and tucking and untucking  :)

  32. Love your outfit...way more than the inspiration one! I need that turquoise bag and pumps to add to my closet :) I already have the necklace! They look so good with those neutrals!

  33. Yes, I do, absolutely wear turquoise as an accent color.  I love the color combinations you selected for today.  I will have to try them.  That's one thing I love about your blog, you put together combinations that wouldn't occur to me, but which I have all the items in my closet to put together! Love it!

  34. I'm wearing those mustard jeans you speak of at the moment, and I just love wearing them with blues and purples, though I don't really wear much turquoise.  I have to say, I like your outfit better than the inspiration photo!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's really about trial and error Jen! I always try my shirts a couple different ways before deciding what works that day, too!

  36. Stephanie, I love this bag too! I posted about the deal when it was out this summer, sorry you missed it!! :-(

  37. I actually love your take much more)) Honestly, yours is much more cute and vearable in real life.
I love turquoise accents in my outfit. It actually is my favorite color and I love pairing it with neutrals, especially with chocolate brown.

  38. Turquoise is gorgeous accent colour and would totally wear it.  I find it is one of those colours that looks great on everyone and brings out the best of a neutral outfit.

I love your tv segments.  Very informative...

  39. Turquoise is one of my favorite accent colors!  I have the same H&M necklace and wear it layered on top of every color and pattern!  I would love to add some turquoise (and mustard) heels to my shoe collection tho!

  40. I just bought the Kimchi Blue heels from Urban Outfitters for graduation. Although I was trying to go for a more "minty" color, the shape of the shoes was just to good to pass up. I will be wearing a similar necklace to the one you are wearing to match!
