This is what I'm wearing on Thanksgiving this year! I'm on a plane to Kansas today so I already have my outfit picked out. ;-) I've had this poncho for years (same poncho, different color as the one I posted a couple weeks ago here). I love being super cozy to visit family and eat lots of food, but I put together a wide range of looks below that you could wear for Thanksgiving, no matter how dressy or casual your celebration may be. The common theme is fall colors and I would most likely wear #1, 2, 7, 10 or 11 for Thanksgiving - which ones are your favorite? What will you wear on Thanksgiving this year?
Poncho: Gap, old (similar)
Shirt: LOFT, $30 (similar)
Boots: c/o Chinese Laundry, $150Purse: Karen Millen, $235 (similar, vegan)

That poncho looks so cute and cozy! and perfect

The poncho is THE best idea for Thanksgiving dinner! Although I do really love look #1 and #11. I love the colored jeans! I think this year I'm going to break in my colored jeans with my new gray booties! Happy Thanksgiving J!
ReplyDeleteI love being cozy too, but I don't think I even own a sweater, because they always make me feel like I look fat! haha I think I'm going to have to go out of my way to get at least one this year though. Feeling drawn to a nice, cozy sweater. :-) Such cute outfits. Love the boots!
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd post this poncho from the loft. It's similar to j's & super cute!

Love all of those sweaters!

I love this outfit.. you look so cozy and warm:)
ReplyDeleteFor girl's that are a L or XL ... what type of poncho would you recommend wearing
that won't make larger girls look even larger?
I'm so sad I can't buy that poncho. I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit - I was disappointed that that the sweater is old because I wanted to get one of my own! Our family's Thanksgiving gathering is more formal, so I'll be wearing a long sleeve dress with tights and boots.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous poncho! It's stylish, but you can still hide your food baby after eating Thanksgiving dinner :) We are staying home with just our immediate family (me, hubby and two kids) so I may just hang out in my yoga pants all day! Heather
ReplyDeleteI am in love with look 12! I like the poncho but I worry that loose thick sweaters make me look heavier then I want to look.
ReplyDeleteDammit J...I love everything you put together!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!!
ReplyDeleteNicole, I would look for one that has a defined waist - and by that I mean a poncho that is nipped/sewn shut at the waist. Mine is literally a round sweater with a hole for your head, so something with sleeves or ruching at the waist would be what I would look for. Also, be sure to pair a big sweater like this with something slim on the bottom - no flares or bootcuts, stick with skinny or leggings if you can! Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI saw this one and passed it up for some reason!! It's really cute, I added a link to the post for it.
ReplyDeletehaha I have a very similar post today! Great minds think alike, especially about the eating lots of food part! :)

I like number seven the best... it's adorable for Thanksgiving!! :)

Stop. Just stop. I swore I would never like ponchos, but now you've posted not one, but two poncho outfits that I love. You're going to make me regret my poncho-hate.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! It looks so cozy, comfy, and totally put together. My family is not at all formal, and I always feel overdressed in anything but jeans, sneaker and t-shirts. I could wear something like this and they wouldn't all ask me if I came from the office.
The first one is my favorite. Great poncho!!!!

From experience I have learned that a belted waist is a bad idea on Thanksgiving after you have eaten that big meal... haha Love these outfits though!
ReplyDeleteThis past Tuesday, my husband and I adopted an----(abandoned, about 5 years old)----wonderful orange marmalade cat from a shelter; and I've noticed that when I wear my plush fleece cardigan, and hold our cat, he just purringly-*loves* the soooofffftttt texture of it; so he'd probably REALLY love it then, if I bought a poncho similar to yours, because it looks just............ *so* soooofffftttt, too, J.!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I adore your blog. I also hate your blog because I keep buying cute things that I think I need (gray Old Navy poncho - seriously?!). It also makes me rethink my closet, though, too, which is really one of your mantras. My question is, where are you headed in Kansas?? I'm originally from there - a Kansas State girl actually (so hoping I get to Miami at the beginning of January for the BCS Championship, of course). Just wanted to say hello to a fellow Kansan.
ReplyDeleteHi Tricia! That is too funny! I grew up in Johnson County and that's where I'll be most of the week, although I've also got small trips planned to St. Louis, Ottawa and a couple other towns (I'm in a wedding + 2 TV appearances + seeing family). Thanks for saying hi!
ReplyDeleteSooo true Sophie! I wore a belt around my waist a couple years ago and definitely had to loosen it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy family is the same way! A hoodie would be perfectly appropriate but a sweater is just as cozy. Glad I could convert you to loving ponchos. ;-)
ReplyDelete1, 2, 3, 4, 5... okay you get the gist. These are all such wonderful outfits! You're on a plane to Kansas?! We should hang out the next time you visit and don't have such a jam-packed schedule :P
ReplyDeleteRock chalk ;) I get to spend my first Thanksgiving in Kansas in three years (since I started law school) and I am so excited! Love your sweater - definitely taking this into consideration while I'm packing this weekend.

I say 11. It's my favorite.

Love the poncho. Only wish it was still available! Great blog, great concept and even better style!

#1 - in fact, I can recreate that with what i own in the closet. Thanks! Now I don't have to figure it out!
ReplyDeletethank you for inspiration every day. Here I learned to explore further the clothes I have, the amount is not the solution for us to innovate, create new looks. Before wearing darker colors, so thought it was easier to be well dressed, a mistake, now I try to always have some color. I sets, mix pieces and started taking pictures, I advise later we can always remember that look it was a success.I will continue to visit every day. Congratulations and continues.A Portuguese grateful

i'm anit-belt around the waist on t-day!
ReplyDeleteI love this poncho! I would die of a heat stroke though. I am almost always hot and love winter (in Texas) but rarely wear anything heavier than a cardi. If I have on a jacket, I have to be able to take it off if I get too hot. There is a woman I work with that wears a wrap like poncho thing that is really pretty and might be an option though. I am still limiting my clothes purchases until spring unless I find something I LOVE.
ReplyDeleteAre you a Kansas girl?! I'm in Kansas right now as well visiting family for Thanksgiving. I hope you have a great time with your family and good luck with your tv appearances!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Born and raised, went to KU. :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is too funny. I'm flying into St. Louis tonight (I travel for a living), and I live in Rolla, MO, about 110 miles away from STL. I'll be traveling to Raymore, MO, for Thanksgiving! (Hello, Johnson Co neighbor!) Have a happy turkey day and safe travels!
ReplyDeleteWaaah! <------ That's me whining because I love the poncho you're wearing and was hoping it was still available! Have a great Turkey day!
ReplyDeleteI could have swore you were on my flight on Wednesday in to St. Louis... If not, you have a twin.
ReplyDeleteMust be a twin. ;-) I flew into Kansas City on Thursday!
ReplyDeleteI love look 11 the best, I think I'm going to aim for something like that th!

Debbie, that sweater coat is also from Gap, around the same time I bought the poncho so 4-5 years ago!
ReplyDeleteI love your poncho if you ever want to get rid of it you can send it my way :)
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that shirt/blouse from outfit #2? I love that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI just got that top from eShakti recently! Here's my full review: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/10/todays-everyday-fashion-customize-it.html
ReplyDeleteProbably good I didn't say anything to her then. I would've looked crazy! Too bad it wasn't you though!
ReplyDelete1,5, 10, & 11 are my favorites. I'm 9mths preg and cooking for my DH, 2boys, and a friend, so I want to be comfortable, but also cute enough for any impromptu pics.
ReplyDeleteHi J! I recreated the look above (poncho w white shirt underneath) and wore it out to do some black Friday shopping and the Loft girl behind the counter was like "OMG! that is so cute!" I was so excited!! :) Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!
