Today's Everyday Fashion: NYE Options

Option 1
Option 2

I may not have set plans for New Year's Eve yet, but I'm already contemplating what to wear! I recently fell in love with both of these sparkly options on the Lily + Violet website and they let me try both (I'm sending one back). I'm having the toughest time deciding between the two because I like both for different reasons. I did some research on additional sequined options; see my picks for under $100 below. Which dress do you like better? What are you wearing on NYE this year?

Dress #1: Lily + Violet, $143
Dress #2: BB Dakota/ Lily + Violet, $84
Clutch: Limited, $15
Necklaces: JcPenney $15, Banana Republic $15
Shoes: Banana Republic $50, Colin Stuart c/o MJR Sales $29 (similar, similar)
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $69 and $39
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79 and $39

1. Alloy  2. Trina Turk  3. Bebe  4. Charlotte Russe  5. Everly
6. Badgley Mischka  7. ASOS  8. Victoria's Secret  9. BB Dakota 10. Piperlime

Also, if you live in the Orlando area I have two upcoming events that I would love for you to attend! Saturday (tomorrow), Dec. 1 at Macy's Mall at Millenia from 1-4 p.m. I'll be styling several outfits and intro-ing them for the INC Holiday Event.

This Thursday, Dec. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Orlando Harley-Davidson, I'll be attending and co-emceeing Belles, Bubbles & Bikes. The event is free but RSVP is required, email dhardies@americanroad.biz to attend. Hope to see you then!

  1. You look stunning! =D  I LOVE option 2!  For me, the first dress is a bit too sparkly, but you have such an incredible figure, that it still looks good.  I think the balance of texture is option 2 makes it a better choice? At least in my opinion =) I'm sure you'll look awesome regardless of which dress you choose!

  2. The one on the left for sure!  It's so feminine and shows off your figure.  The other is neat, but it kind of looks like it is wearing you since it's so slouchy.

  3. Option 1! I love this on you! Would you consider wearing your hair up as well?

  5. We go to see the Flaming Lips in Oklahoma City almost every year! Last year it was wayyyy too expensive but we're hoping to do it again this year! It is such a blast. I like #2 better.

  6. I really like both dresses, but option 1 is my favorite.  I think it could be remixed a lot more than the 2nd version.  Have a great weekend!  Heather

  7. So happy you posted this!! I was just posting about needing a sequin dress for some holiday parties. Love option 2!!

  8. Gorgeous! I love both, but Option 2 is my top pick!

  9. I love Option 2 - you look adorable! Its very feminine. I almost bought a sequin tank for NYE but decided I'd only get to wear it once so I passed.  You are making me regret my decision! lol.

  10. I love option 2! Love reading your precious blog!

  11. ugh, they're both so cute i can't even choose... seriously...

i guess if i HAD to for YOU, i like option 1
for ME, i would prob feel better in option 2

  12. Definitely option 2. Hands down.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Number two looks hot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Option 1 for sure! I like option 2, but the sequins arent as sparkly. And I'm alllll about sparkly haha

    ReplyDelete
  15. Both are cute! What if you swapped shoes? Wonder what the 2nd dress looks like w/ the shoes from the first dress?

Love your necklace in option 2!

    ReplyDelete
  16. i love both dresses, but i think that dress 1 looks SO amazing on you! i just love the fit- somethingabout the 2nd that i like but just not the fit . so, option 1 :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love the one with the blush skirt on you! The first option is pretty, but I think it might look better on you if it were more rose or gold — you have such a beautiful skin tone and I think a warmer shade would complement it better.

    ReplyDelete
  18. OPTION 1!! OPTION 1!! LOVE IT so much!! Option 2 is pretty...but not sparkly enough for NYE! Maybe it's the shoes that are throwing me off? You look beautiful in both, but you just look like you're glowing in Option 1!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Love both.  I actually like the less sparkly one better, but thing the all over sparkly looks best on you! Both are fab though!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Option #1!  I think you will get more wear out of it...other than just NYE!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Option one without a doubt!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. option 2! shows off your body more than the first one. and the dress is super cute

    ReplyDelete
  23. Option 1 is stunning on you!  You even look happier in it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think option 2 looks more like a party dress. I think option 1 looks more like a wedding guest dress. So...definitely option 2!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Option 2. Without a doubt! Looks great on you. I think Option 1 looks a little cheap and doesn't really do anything for you. LOVEEE option 1.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Option 1 but they both look great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. option 2.  sexy and flirty.  too cute for NYE!  The other is better for a Christmas party.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My favorite is Option 1 but I think it needs to be at least 1 size smaller.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Option 2 with less chunky shoes. Fun and classy!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Option 1 dress with the shoes from option 2 to balance out the sparkle.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Option 1. The more sparkles, the better. It's NYE and you can get away with it. Yes, you can get more wear from Option 2, but that's all the more reason to go with the full sparkle option. Make it extra special. What about a different pair of shoes? Those are great, but the ones you wear here are fierce. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TsGpQYfiNKs/UB7dC-SO1LI/AAAAAAAAFFo/GXzy7F1cnIc/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-10-12+at+12.41.26+AM.png

How would they look with it? (Hard to see colors and texture in pictures.) Either way, you'll have fun and look fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  32. loooooove option 2!!! it really shows off your figure :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. option 2 with better shoes the shoes are too casual...

    ReplyDelete
  34. You are adorbs in both! I'm loving option 2, but did you try it with the nude version of those Colin Stuart heels? I think that would look even more NYE appropriate and fabulous. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Option 2 for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  36. option 1 is definitely more party-like and also looks great on you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. you put option 2 on the left of the bottom photo, which threw me off at first.  but definitely option 2 (the one with just the sparkly top and lighter skirt).  you need dressier shoes, though!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love both!  I love the first dress better in general, but I like that the second dress is shorter (show off those legs, girl!) and therefore better for New Years.  As far as the other dresses, I like the Bebe (#3) and ASOS (#7) dresses the best. I also happen to think they'd look best on you. If you order one, I'd suggest going with ASOS because their return shipping is great and holy moly that dress is super cheap right now.

I had the hardest time picking out my dress.. the one I wanted from Nasty Gal (Gold Rush dress) felt cheap for what I spent on it and didn't wow me when I put it on, so I'm returning it. The one I wanted from VS was get this, no longer on the website, which is insane because they keep their stuff on their website for years!

I settled on this beauty: http://us.asos.com/River-Island-Sequin-Body-Conscious-Dress/z2rq0/?iid=2679076&cid=13720&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black&mporgp=L1JpdmVyLUlzbGFuZC9SaXZlci1Jc2xhbmQtU2VxdWluLUJvZHljb24tRHJlc3MvUHJvZC8 which was out of stock when I discovered it, but then a few hours later POOF it was in stock in my size and a few other sizes only. It was truly a Cyber Monday miracle! haha. I'm so excited to wear it, but I bought a backup in case the dress is too big on me.

I'm actually curious if you have any styling tips for it.. I'm 5'11" and avoid heels because they a) hurt my feet and b) would make me tower over my boyfriend, who is also my height. Do you think short flat black booties would work? I'm also considering knee high black boots but I'm having a hard time visualizing it.. it might be too much.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love option one!  The dress is fantastic and the shoes are New Year's worthy ...  I would make *slight* changes.  I think the necklace you have it paired with is too small and too similar to the dress.  I would suggest either losing the necklace all together and letting the dress speak for itself OR something like the Noir Hex Strand at www.baublebar.com.  It is more of a statement necklace with large black stones ... it will play up the edgy look you started with the shoes but is different enough from the dress that it won't compete with it.  The clutch you chose works generally, and while I get that a lot of people aren't into matchy-matchy right now I would pair it with a large black envelope clutch like the Mossimo Supply Co. Large Push Lock Clutch in black at www.target.com.  Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Option 1 for sure!!!!! Love, love, love!!!!! :-) I also like #9 in the other dress options at the bottom. Nothing wrong with picking out your dress early. hehe!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I too don't have NYE plans yet, but I know I'll be wearing sequins!  I heard something on the radio yesterday that a lot of women get more excited about picking a dress for a company holiday party than actually going to the holiday party, which I thought was pretty obvious, haha!

Personally I like option 2 better, because I prefer a more fitted dress for New Years.  Although, I would probably pair it with the heels from option 1, I like a strappy heel for a dressy night out!

Either way, they both look great :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like 'option 2' but with different shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love option 1! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Number 1 for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Option #1 FOR SURE! Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Option 2!! It looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Both look great.  I'd go for Option 1 though.  It's just so perfect and NY Eve- y.  I would switch the necklace from Option 2 to the Option 1 outfit though - it looks like it'll tie in better.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I LOVE option two! I am a fan of the 'nude' colors and the sparkle makes it so classy! I do love the shoes in option one, though...they definitely add some sass :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. option 2. the cut is more flattering on you, the silver complements your skin more, and i like the two different fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Option 2 all the way! It looks amazing. I'm surprised you had to even ask J!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Option 1!!! WAY more festive!!! Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am totally into the firth option but I dont know about the shoes...maybe with the second options shoes :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Option 1, so cute.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like option 1. I think the waist line suits you best. Also I prefer the collar line of option 1, option 2 seems less structured.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Both are adorable, but Option 1 is my pick.  Very chic!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I like both also. I think #1 is a more flattering style but it has a more whimsical, youthful feel. #2 is fun and modern but not showing off your figure as much. I read a book recently that said to judge your clothes on a scale of 1-10.....if it's not a 10 don't keep it. Which one is your 10?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like option #2. That dress is more classy, structured and seems more versatile as far as where you could wear the dress after NYE.  I also love that its not all the same fabric; that adds some visual interest.  However, I would wear the strappy sandals from option #1 to this outfit; they look more like party shoes than the pumps :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hands down dress #1!

    ReplyDelete
  59. option #2 with different shoes! :)
    kw, http://www.ladiesinnavy.com

    ReplyDelete
  60. Option one definitely. However, option two is very cute, just more casual. I would wear different shoes if you go with #2.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Option 1 for sure, but with the nude version of the same shoes maybe? Option 2 doesn't have enough sparkle, and it's too cutesy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Both are adorable, but I love #1!

    ReplyDelete
  63. ya, me too. But I like option 1 on you.

    ReplyDelete
  64. What size did you get in both dresses?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Option 1 is my favorite. NYE is the one day a year it's acceptable to wear head to toe sequins. Embrace it!!

    the all sparkle one!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I like option 1, the all sparkles one. Option 2 isn't bad, but definitely don't go with those shoes. I really like the strappy ones in the first outfit. Also, I think some people are confusing the options based on their comments. I noticed your pictures are flipped when they are next to each other at the end of the post. So, option 1 is on the right and option 2 is on the left. Seems a little backwards, which might have confused people. Just wanted to give you a heads up! LOVE your blog!!!

Also, I just bought a skirt I had been looking for on Lily + Violet. Thanks for introducing me to that boutique on-line! I had never seen it before.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Option 2 - but I would wear Option 1's heels or other strappy heels.  I just love the fit on you - both really fun options!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I also think option 2 is so cute! And I like them with shoes from option 1.Both look cute though, I think it's a win either way! Good luck!

  74. I love love LOVE option 1! The color is beautiful, and the drapey neckline looks awesome on you, and I love the contrast of the strappy black heels.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Option 1.  Although both are gorgeous,  I feel option2 is a tad conservative.   It's New Year's.   Go for the gusto!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I like Option 2 the best! And it's cheaper! But I think I would swap out the pumps with a strappy sandal. Just my opinion though :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. I LOVE option 1!!! but I really love option 2 shoes better :) and thanks for researching all of the other sparkly dresses for us! It's gonna be hard to decide which to get!

  78. I like option 1 for sure.  They are both cute, but one just seems more stylish to me.  They both look great on you!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I do like option 2 better, but I l don't  like the shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  80. option 2 but you can keep both =)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Both look great, but I think option 2 is a bit more flattering. (I also think it would look super cute with a metallic/sparkly shoe, as a slight variation.)

    Love your blog! :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Option 1 is definitely hotter.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think option 2 dress is more versatile and my practical side says go with that but to use your option 2 shoes with it.  I also think option 2 is more flattering to your figure.  Option 1 is definately a fun dress tho and I can see you in either.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes, in option 1 you look stunning!! In 2, I love that dress as well, but seriously the shoes in #1 are killer!! Love them!

  85. Kendall Hoover | EditorNovember 30, 2012 at 10:51 AM

I think #1 is more stylish/current but #2 is more flattering and just looks adorable! I didn't like the #2 shoes at first either but they grew on my quickly. so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thank you! Yes, I tried those shoes but they are gold, and the top of the dress is VERY silver in person so it looked funny. :-/ I will most likely be buying new shoes no matter which option I go with!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Both are really pretty. It depends on how much bling you want. I like dresses #6, 8, 9 and 10. Great  choices. NO plans for NYE.  Too expensive to get a sitter. Will probably just stay in and watch a movie, which is totally fine by me.

    Agi:)

  88. Option one dress is very gold in person and those shoes are my favorite but they are gray and black, and I don't think they would look right unfortunately!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Emily, awesome dress! Yes I would do short black booties!! That would be perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Allie, that is too funny because Option 1 is gold, and Option 2 is bright silver! haha Metallics are really hard to photograph though.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Number 2 looks great on you... flatters your body... this should be your pick!

    ReplyDelete
  92. A sequin tank goes with SO many things!! I would definitely go for it. And now I'm thinking I should do a Flashback Friday with a sequin tanks to show their versatility. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  93. I also vote for number 2. I think it flatters your figure better.

    ReplyDelete
  94. #1.  I LOVE #2 for myself and you look great in both but #1 looks best on you!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I love the option on the left. At first, I thought you were just wearing a top and a skirt. So I wonder if you could actually wear a skirt over the the second option. I personally think the one on the right is frumpy at your top, and since you have no need to cover anything up, I like the fitted version (the left). Then again, I play it safe on NYE and do a bit of sparkle-- if you want to stand out, then go for the right :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Perfect holiday dresses!  My favorite is the first one.

  97. #1. Girly and tiny and fun.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love dress number 2 but with different shoes. Love your blog! I look forward to seeing a new post each day!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I *think* 1... But you really cannot go wrong. They both look amazing!!

    Sues

    ReplyDelete
  100. Definitely #1!! it is much more flattering than #2.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Option #1. Very stylish and New Year's appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hands down Option 1! But both look fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Option 1 for sure! =)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Option 2 :) Both look great.  I love sparkly!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's never bad to have an excuse to get a new pair of shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Dress #1 with shoes from #2

    ReplyDelete
  107. I love option 2 and think it has more layering potential for after NYE :)
No clue what I'm wearing or what I'm doing but it might likely also invlove sparkles - if not on NYE then when can you?!

    ♥ Thankfifi

    ReplyDelete
  108. #1 is much more versatile, but #2 is the perfect New Year's dress!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I love Option 2! And so many options for wearing again later in the year!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think they are both really cute.  I'd have a hard time deciding between them.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Dress 2 from BB Dakota. I love them both, but I feel like this option is a bit more wearable to other events

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think #2 has the most potential for post-NYE layering, but I LOVE the first one on you!! :)

  114. I like option 2 better, but that's because I am partial to flowy skirts. I like my skirt to twirl while dancing.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I havent figured out NYE yet, but I think I like the first one. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them!

  116. Hi J!  You would look fantastic in anything but i really like option 2 with different shoes.  I think the heels pictured are a littlle too heavy for your dress, maybe a strappy heel.  The Badgley Mischka and Victoria's Secret dresses are gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I like Option 1! It's NYE! Go all out with sparkle!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I don't think the necklace works with either dress. I prefer the second dress though.

    ReplyDelete
  119. They are both great, but option 2 is really stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  120. option 1 - sparkles sparkles sparkles!

    ReplyDelete
  121. #1 for sure!!! It's a total NYE dress. #2 is kind of blah and boring.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Option #1!  Option #2 looks a little junior, but maybe it's just the picture.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I vote for Option 1! Overall I like both options, but the first one has head turning powers.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Option #1 :) Definitely has the extra "Wow!" factor needed to ring in the new year!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Option 1 for sure! And I feel like you could do a little more with that dress later!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  126. #2.  Option 1 is cute but the look is way overdone lately. :)  Either way it is cute!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I love Option 1 on you. It's very flattering and a sure stand out at any party.

    ReplyDelete
  131. option 2 !! very classy!

    ReplyDelete
  132. both are great but i vote for 1!

    ReplyDelete
  133. dress #1 is really sophisticated. love it!

    ReplyDelete
  134. option #2 but definitely with different shoes, these are too heavy and casual. I would add some sparkle with shoes also

    ReplyDelete
  135. Love, love, LOVE dress number 2. I may just have to buy it for myself. It has just enough sparkle, but not so much you look like a disco ball.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Dress #1! Somehow the cap(ish) sleeve make it more 'wintry' to me! #2 would be a great evening dress in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Definitely option #1. It looks more sophisticated, but is still very fun!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Both dresses are gorgeous! I think option 1 is my favorite!

  139. I personally love *both* your choices, but I was just wondering to myself which dress............ (no matter WHAT the fabric was, haha!!)............ my husband AND my #4 brothers would probably like more for NYE;  and I was thinking that it would most probably be  1) The one which showed your slender figure off more;  and  2) The one which highlighted your long legs and ALSO your pretty shoulders, too.    Soooo, since my husband is home this afternoon, I just decided to ask him directly!!    His to-the-point "guy opinion":  "I like that one on the left."............ (i.e., the BB Dakota "Champagne Toast Dress" with the sleeveless silver sequin top and pleated champagne skirt).    Anyway, J., this is----(straight from the source, haha!!)----only one  g.u.y.'s.  opinion!!

I remember your *gorgeous* neon necklace from Etsy's   ColorblockShop  ----(that particular necklace is now completely sold out, by the way, although the website has bunches of others)----and how you very stylishly paired it with a sequin tank in this post:  " March 26, 2012:  Today's Everyday Fashion: Miami Recap "                                                                   ( http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/03/todays-everyday-fashion-miami-recap.html ).    In any event, I think your neon necklace might (??) really look gorgeous with the BB Dakota dress............ because it would add some bright, sparkly  *c.o.l.o.r.*  to a silver-and-champagne color palette............ and also because a bright,  *c.o.l.o.r.f.u.l.*  necklace would focus attention UP............ i.e., on your face/eyes, too!!    Since the dress' tank part is fitted, maybe (??) even layering your neon necklace with a small "tasseled" pendant necklace;  or with a "fringed" necklace----(i.e., anything to get that "party swing"!!)....might be *fun* to do!!

The hard part, the REALLY hard part............ (i.e., for me anyway, but more-than-likely not for you, at all, J.!!)............ would be then choosing a color/type of clutch and *sexy dancing shoe" to  c.o.m.p.l.e.m.e.n.t.  the BB Dakota dress;  and your layered ColorblockShop neon necklace!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. I love option 2!!!! More frilly, more feminine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Option 1 for sure.  It highlights your gorgeous skin.

  142. Hi J!

I like Option 1 but I think it would look better with your nude Colin Stuart shoes. Either way, I love the dress!

  143. I like the way the first dress photographs, just because in the photo the second dress seems to overwhelm you, but I have a feeling it looks better in person! And I love those black strappy heels! :)

  144. I prefer the one that is all sequins because the other one (as you say) has a look that can be better accomplished with a chiffon skirt and a sequin top, that way you can use the sequin top for going out, the skirt for work, etc.

  145. I'd definitely go with option 1!

  146. Option 1. Much more unexpected. To me option 2 looks younger and more like prom or school dance to me. #1 is glamorous!

  147. I think Option 2 is infinitely more flattering on you (and you're a gorgeous lady either way!) but agree with some of the other comments that for NYE I'd like it with a lighter or more sparkly shoe. Beautiful options you came up with!

  148. Totally #1!! It's so elegant!

  149. I prefer option 1, but I think what's throwing me off option 2 is the heels. To me the black is a bit harsh against the rest of the outfit, but then it's always hard to get a proper feel for sparkles in a blog photo so it might look different in real life.

  150. I like both dresses, but I think Option 1 is more flattering, but I'd change out the shoes.

  151. Option 2 is more feminine and less 80's and looks more expensive. But no necklace, it detracts from the bodice. You have a grwat figure and coloring and look great in both, however!

  152. They are both cute but I like 1 best. Also , not feeling pumps for new years.

  153. #2 for a fun night on the town, #1 for a more casual night with friends.

  154. Option 1 for sure. Looks great on you!

  155. I like option 2, I like how the top is more fitted, I'm not a fan of baggy shirt-like tops on dresses, but that's just me! I wish I knew sooner about the event tomorrow, I would love to come to one of your events but already have plans. Let us know about future ones as soon as you can!

  156. I love option # 2 but with a different shoe. I think something strappy and flirty would be a better option.

  157. I like both but Option 1 gets my vote!

  158. You look absolutely gorgeous in both but I'm voting for option #1

  159. Definetly option #1 it falls so nicely on you

  160. I like both, but prefer option 2.  You look good in either one, though.

  161. Option 2! Looks like it fits your body better. Option 1 looks a little too baggy

  162. I like option 1.  Would love to see other sparkly dresses with a little longer skirt for those of us without your legs!  :)

  163. You look amazing in both, but I prefer Option 1 (but with option 2 shoes!).  Then again, it's freezing where I am so I might be projecting!

  164. I definitely like Option 2 better, but I would wear it with different shoes - like those sparkly ones you looked at recently. Love the necklace.
