Today's Everyday Fashion: Hawaii

Aloha! If you follow on Instagram then you may know that I just returned from the island of Kauai in Hawaii. This was a very spontaneous trip - I had a free place to stay and randomly found inexpensive flights only two weeks ago! I spent most of the week in swim suits and cover ups (and I also didn't take a break from work), but these pictures are from my favorite day, and also my favorite outfits.

The first half was spent at Wailua Falls (picture below). You can drive to the falls and observe them from up high, but we heard a rumor that you could also hike down, despite the hazard/warning signs. It turned out to be a 173 foot nearly vertical hike down and I was covered in mud, but it was totally worth it. I would've worn more serious gear if I had known how rough the terrain is, but my boat shoes held up surprisingly well. After a day at the falls I cleaned up in a public bathroom and headed to the luau. This lavender tunic and white coral necklace were great for the occasion, which consisted of a walk in the botanical gardens, huge buffet dinner and a theater show which detailed the history of Hawaii through hula and other forms of dance. It was fascinating to learn about and take part in the Hawaiian culture.

This trip got me thinking about the fun places I've been in the last couple years and how my first time on an airplane was my senior year of high school. My love for travel has certainly grown with time and I cant wait to cross off more places on my bucket list. What's your favorite place you've been? If you could travel anywhere where would you go?

  8. Thanks Amber! The mud was mostly on my butt and shoes and I also had been in the water behind me which cleaned me up a bit! ;-)

  15. I think my list of places that I need to see are way too long and need to start visiting some of them soon!  I grew up in Hawaii so I go back everywhere and each time I wonder why I left such a beautiful place.  Looks like you had some great weather!

  16. Seeing the fit of that striped top makes me regret not looking into it more when you first posted about it (some of your readers said the fit was off so I didn't go see for myself...DANG IT).

About trips, I went to Australia and New Zealand in February so that's the coolest place I've been so far...although I need to go back and explore the parts I didn't get to see. Next place I want to go to is Italy!

  17. I'm from Australia so my favourite trip was visiting Canada/New York in the middle of winter!!! Coats, boots, scarves, mittens and hats were just a few things that I bought while I was over there! Pity they don't have as much use back home!

  23. I Love your outfits especial the one in the cargo shorts and fedora...so chic!  Hawaii looks beautiful and I would not mind visiting.

One the places I have gone so many times to count is London, England.  I love the vibe of the city and how it is so drenched with character and street style.  It is expensive to visit but I am lucky that half my family and in laws live there.  One of the most stunning tropical places I have ever visited is the Island of Zanzibar, where I went for my honeymoon.  Two places I would love to visit in the States is Orlando (Disney World) and New York, and beyond would be Paris and Marrakesh.

  24. If you love London, you should visit Boston sometime! I lived there for 4 years and it really is the most gorgeous city in the U.S. in my opinion - very European feel to it.

  25. Thanks Meghan! It's wavy like this when I wake up, and then I add Loreal Springing Curls to help tone down the frizz!

  27. I love your "hiking" outfit!  :-)  Seriously adorable!  My husband and I went to Kauai right after he returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.  It was so awesome!

One of my favorite places ever was Lake Como, Italy; I went while I was in college, and traveled throughout Italy.  An absolutely breathtaking place.  I also got to travel to South Africa and Zimbabwe, which was such an adventure!  I have 3 kids now, so my adventures are a little closer to home ;-).  I'd love to travel to England - I have a thing for English accents!

  28. Kauai is my heaven on earth.  My family owns a condo in Princeville and the moment I set foot on the island I am relaxed.  Now I can't wait to go back, hopefully next month if my hubby can ever take time off from work. You made me "heavensick".
Love the lavender top. And the pics in Hanalei.
