Work version |
This inspiration photo totally caught my eye (minus the socks and sandals...), and it inspired me to put together a similar look with a chambray shirt and jeans, and a work version with a navy pencil skirt. I wore the casual version with brown suede booties in North Dakota this weekend, while shopping with the $500 gift card winner (below). Which version works better for your lifestyle?
Inspiration photo: Club Monaco
Blazer: Forever 21, $25 (similar, similar, rust)
Chambray shirt: Mudd c/o Kohl's, $20 (similar, similar, similar, similar)
Jeans: American Eagle, $25
Navy skirt: Limited, $25 (similar)
Belt: Gap, $40
Shoes: c/o Nine West, $62
Purse: Karen Millen, $235 (similar, vegan)
Necklace: My Stella & Dot website charm $17 and c/o Jenny Present
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $39 and $69
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59
Helping the winner shop was so much fun! Via Instagram. |
Love the look for work! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Seriously, what is with the socks with sandals trend? I understand extending our wardrobes to multi-season but that is just weird and doesn't work in real life. Nor really in photos, to be honest?
ReplyDeletegorgeous jacket! love the color.

I love both looks, it's too hard to pick a fave. That blazer is great!
ReplyDeleteThey would both work for me, I work in a pretty casual office and Friday is jean day! But the skirt look is so classy. Love that blazer!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! That mustard blazer from F21 is amazing!!!

I love your color combination of mustard + powder blue. That inspiration photo though... seriously, not only just socks and sandals but cropped pants too!!!! I think Monaco might be trying to make us look like old ladies with cankles.....
ReplyDeleteI've been loving seeing all of the mustard you've been wearing recently!! You really wear it well :)

I think I am going to wear the jeans version to work tomorrow. I have all the pieces and they are letting us go casual if we don't want to wear a costume to work.
ReplyDeleteI love this blazer color, it is so different. I like the look with the jeans more, it is more casual and classy.

I like both outfits. I love the color combinations. And I love the purse!
ReplyDeleteSince I work from home, I'm definitely more likely to wear the outfit in the first picture, which I actually like better as well. The only thing I'd probably change is the bag -- I feel like a different color bag (even just another neutral) added into the mix might make it pop more.

I love the work version of this outfit. I think maybe if you tucked in the shirt in the front and added a belt, the casual version would be a fav too.

I love it! Question about the inspiration photo: am I the only one that thinks socks with sandals looks a bit ugly? Or is there a specific way to pair them together that is "stylish"?? I saw at least one other person comment on this so maybe I'm not the only one that thinks this.
ReplyDeleteYes, I totally agree! That's what I meant when I said "minus the socks and sandals." Never say never in fashion, but I don't think I've ever seen a rendition I thought would work in real life. I've seen cute loafer pump with socks, and tights work with a peep toe for holiday, but socks and sandals are much harder!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one. Maybe someday they will come up with a "normal" way to wear them but for now, I'll admire from afar...
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing this mustard/navy combo a lot lately. I'm such a fan of it! I actually like the work version better, although the casual one is more appropriate for me.

I really love both looks. I just love the versatility of the chambray shirt. I work it into my ensembles for the office, in this pic: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/10/fall-suiting-chambray-shirt.html and casually, in this pic: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/fall-suiting-canadian-tuxedo-la-j-crew.html
ReplyDeleteI love both these looks but the casual one best! Love the jackets too! Thanks for the tip!

love the work outfit soo soo much! I'm switching to a jewelry sales job and I am leaving a shoe store so I am trying to check and see what have-to's I need with my discount and these are great with so many of your outfits! I really love boots tho and I am curious about what is appropriate in a professional environment when it comes to boots.. any sugestions?
ReplyDeleteThe top look probably fits in more with my lifestyle, but I love the second look so much! It's like the chambray says "I'm casual, so this outfit is casual" but the skirt says, "No way! This outfit is professional." But then the blazer sings "you get the best of both worlds" (by Hannah Montana). Okay, I'm crazy, but I'm hoping you get the point.
ReplyDeleteToo funny Kate!! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think it really depends on the industry and the region of the country you live in, but I think a nice riding boot, or a similar style with a heel would be great for work. I would avoid anything that looks "cowboy", and go for more of a polished look - no wrinkles, smooth leather, not a ton of buckles. Any heel height works. Hope this helps!
ReplyDelete'Adore your gorgeous mustard blazer - t.o.g.e.t.h.e.r. - w.i.t.h. - your elegant/very chic brown heels!! Your next *Inspiration* Photo could almost be your *Instagram* Photo here, (from Grand Forks, ND), using............ first, the lucky winner's FUCHSIA (cardigan)............ then, secondly, the winner's MUSTARD (whatever-it-fashionably-is that she's holding on top!!)............ and, thirdly, your MUSTARD (blazer)!!
ReplyDeleteOlivia Palermo beautifully wore............ (on June 21, 2011, to attend the New York screening of "The Ledge")............ Victoria Beckham's (SP 2011) Mandarin YELLOW silk crepe dress; and Sondra Roberts' FUCHSIA pink clutch............ http://photos.posh24.com/p/1260406/z/style_tips/olivia_palermo_yellow_dress_pi.jpg ............(from Posh24.com: http://www.posh24.com/photo/985918/olivia_palermo_yellow_dress_pi )............ then I also loved your 5/25/12 "Survey Nerd" MUSTARD and FUCHSIA pairing, too, J.!!
(It's still genuinely amazing to me, i.e., ALL the different ways that t.w.o. little colors - like mustard and fuchsia - can be combined in different outfits............ just TRULY *amazing*, you know!!)
Love the whole look specially the blazer!
