Today's Everyday Fashion: Solange Style

I love to dabble in all kinds of styles, but super-preppy tops the list as one of my favorites. I dig this work look for that reason, and was inspired to put it together by flip-floping Solange's color palette and adding stripes (love her style, btw). I was also inspired to go on a hunt for some cognac pointy toe pumps (an item high on my wish list for fall), and shared some of my finds with you below. What shoes are on your wish list this fall?

  7. LOVE this look! I'm always looking for some new conservative looks that are still preppy and cute, and this is perfect! I was iffy about purchasing a red blazer, but now I might have to!

  8. I love how you turned up the cuff on the arm to show the stripes. So cute! And yes, I like your take on the color combination better than Solange.

  9. I agree your version is way better! The only item I need for this outfit is the yellow skirt and now I am in serch of it. FANTASTIC! I can't decide my favorite piece - the blue striped shirt or the blazer! I am obsessed with all blazers!

  10. I really like this outfit. Would this be appropriate for an interview? Do you have any outfits in your archive that you'd recommend for an interview? Thanks!

  11. I really love this outfit J!  I do love both your look, and the inspiration picture as well!  I can appreciate the inspiration look because it is more high fashion, but not a look all women would love, and I love yours because it more practical fashion for everyday women in the work place!  I like it also worn without the jacket as well, which works for women who don't like blazers.

  13. J, you look fantastic!! I love the way you used the photo for inspiration, but came up with something (in my opinion) so much better! I especially love the incorporation of stripes! Awesome outfit :)

  16. I totally dig these colors all together! You have GREAT ideas!

  17. I like the outfit without the red blazer on very much. It's clean and colorful. I don't like the look with the blazer on, it's just too colorful and busy for my taste. But I like the individual pieces.
I like the cognac Nine West shoes although styling options may be limited because of their oxford-look.

  18. This may be my favorite outfit that you've put together!  You freshened preppy, and I love that preppy doesn't have to mean boring.  And I'm dying over those nine west heels; if only they were a little shorter, they would be mine!

  19. This skirt is so amazing! Love the color combination and inspiration for this!

  20. Love this preppy look! You added the perfect amount of bold color, and I LOVE the blouse!  I also like the heels you chose and the cognac color really goes nicely with the rest of the outfit. your hair is more playful which tones down the outfit. Great choice!

  23. I love this look--the colors, the preppy stripes--I'd definitely wear it! On my shoe wish-list this fall: a pair of bright colored pumps!

  24. I love this look on you, but I know I could never pull it off.  I can't do red and yellow together, even though you make it look easy and effortless.  I love cognac accessories, just ordered flat knee high boots in that color!  I was dying for oxblood booties but couldn't find any in my heel height preference!

  25. I don't usually comment, but I love this look, the colors and the preppiness of it all! Nice, J!

  27. I love this look J! I JUST purchased a red blazer this weekend so I'm excited to pair mine with similar pieces (although I can't wear skirts to work :(  ). Regarding your shoe choices, I like the 1st pair the most. The tassles are adorable, and the closed toe means you can wear it all year long (although that's probably not as much a concern in Florida).

  28. Love these colors - never would have put them together. Looks like I need more inspiration photos. If the Nine West ones were a little shorter, I'd be sold.

  30. Love the outfit colour combo - you did such a fresh take on a corporate look.

Tan pointy shoes are such a necessity, I find.  I love shoe 4 and 5 the most - something about a classic pointy toe pump for me. I have been eyeing these CK tan suede ones, which are very similar.

This fall, wedges were on my wish list.  I find them to be practical between balancing going to work and dealing with my two young kids (half the time, I am carrying one of them before and after work, along with mine and their bags).  I have been looking for a more affordable alternative to J Crew's Martina wedges.  I was able to find very similar ones for a fraction in black and tortoise, pictured here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/fall-suiting-canadian-tuxedo-la-j-crew.html and here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/early-fall-attire-creme-and-royal-blue.html

  31. Absolutely darling! The conservative silhouette lets you pull off the daring color combo. I like your outfit even better than the inspiration photo. On my shoe list for fall: neutral patent-leather flats. I stand all day and have bad feet, so heels are not an option. Would love to see more cute comfy flats on your site.

  32. I need the PERFECT brown pump...with a 2 1/2-3inch heel. I can't find a perfect brown that I want to wear with everything.

  33. Thanks Noel! The blazer is a pinkish coral color! :-)

  34. Thanks Erica! I wouldn't wear these colors to an interview - but the same outfit in a black/gray/white color palette (with maybe one fun color thrown in) would be perfect!

  35. Absolutely LOVE this color combo. Well done J! (as usual) ;)

  36. Ahhhh, I have been looking for this color shoe, and today i was at Marshalls and found the Franco Sarto shoes shown.  I needed a pump, not ankle strap, so I carefully picked the stitching of the strap.  Yippee, I got my pumps! Oh, and the best part?  at Marshall's they were only 39.99.

  37. i absolutely LOVE this look.  i was wondering if you had any tips/tricks for plus sized girls or know of any good blogs i can look too.  i love your style, but the outfits you wear wouldn't always look as great on myself.. thanks!

  38. What a  *s.t.r.i.k.i.n.g.* outfit, J.!!    On your upper body, any flattering *COLOR*  W.i.t.h.  *WHITE*............ (or~~if "marshmallow-white" doesn't look particularly good with your skin tone~~then with antique white/Winter white instead!!)............ really brightens up your complexion............ makes (the whites of) your eyes brighter............ and (non-dentally, haha!!) "whitens" your teeth............ allowing your smile to be even *more dazzling*!!

In your "similar" Shirt link, (Above), I looked at the #3 Brooks Brothers Cotton Stretch Fitted Stripe Dress Shirts............ i.e., Light purple-white stripes............ Navy-white stripes............ and Pink-white stripes.    Although your LIGHT BLUE-and-white-striped shirt here REALLY *whitens and brightens" your teeth/eyes;  and your skin tone............ (i.e., even moreso than, say, a solid-color light blue shirt would!!)............ you'd also look pretty in either one of those three Brooks Brothers stripe shirts (in  o.t.h.e.r.  colors), too!!
