Today's Everyday Fashion: Leopard Trench

Her fun, printed coat reminded me of my leopard trench hanging in the back of my closet! I flopped the colors so I could wear my new-ish burgundy jeans on the bottom, and I totally dig them paired with this print. I haven't worn this coat much in seasons past but I'm totally jonesin' to wear it this fall. Would you rock a printed trench?

1. Jennifer Lopez dress, $49
2. Lauren Conrad shirt, $21.60
3. Lauren Conrad blazer, $42
4. Unionbay jeans, $25.99

Also, I thought I would share a review of my recent Kohl's.com order! I have a c/o giftcard leftover from this spring, and decided to save some time by ordering a few things online rather than hunting them down in the store (Kohl's prices seem to be the same online and in stores - I used a 15% off coupon that was good at both, and is not applied to prices above). So, how did it go?

1. I was most excited about this burgundy sheath dress, an item high on my wish list for fall. I ordered a size 4 (one up from my regular 2), and it's too big in the waist and way short, so I think I'm reluctantly going to have to skip this piece.
2. The polka dot top fits true to size (I got an XS) and I loved it in person!
3. The blue blazer is a lot darker in person (not a "bright" cobalt) and has a black satin lining. I ordered a size 4 because I feel like LC items usually run small, but this one was two sizes too big (I usually wear a size 0 in blazers) so this piece runs true to size. It also doesn't have any button or hook to hold it closed.
4. The yellow jeans are more brown in person - I love the color, I was just hoping for something brighter so now I'm stuck deciding if I really need two pairs of yellow jeans or if that is overkill (probably is). I ordered a size 3 (my usual at Gap is 2), and they fit like a dream. They are a really thick material and not so much "jegging"; I highly recommend!

  1. I haven't seen many printed trenches, other that the plaid one that I got from Target last year, but I absolutely love love love this trench. I'm obsessed with anything colorful and anything leopard print this season.

  2. I was just at Kohl's! Ahhhh. Okay, here's a rundown of what I've gathered...

    1. JLo's pieces run for the "curvier" Latina in all of us, so I always get the smallest size. You & I are about the same size, actually you might be skinnier though taller. I just bought a peplum dress by her yesterday & got in the smallest size (0? 2? I forget).2. LC's line tends to run all over the place. Sometimes I can't even wear her 2's because they are too big, and then yesterday I tried on pants that could barely get me in as a 2. Her sizing is inconsistent as well as the quality...though the pieces are so cute!

  6. Those Target jeans look great on you, J! I tried on a pair this week but found them really itchy for some reason.

  10. Gahhhhhhhhhhhh I BOUGHT that jacket and actually returned it!!! I'm an attorney and didn't think it would work in the professional atmosphere.  Now that I'm here, I know that I'm in a more "anything goes" type of office, and I'm sincerely regretting the decision not to keep it. :(

  13. I would absolutely rock a printed trench, so long as the rest of my outfit was fairly neutral! :)

  15. I really like your leopard trench and would wear it.  Yours has a muted feel to it, some that I have seen are either too dark/contrasting or the spots are too big.

  16. I don't know about the store/online price comparison....  Last weekend I fell in LOVE with a Daisy Fuentes dress but it wasn't in the budget to buy it (even though it was $10.80 on clearance)!  I told myself I could wait, and in the meantime I looked it up online--$52.00.  Of course the dress was gone by the time I went back, but I always go to the store if I can because the online prices may differ greatly.

  17. Brittany, thank you so much for this info!! I totally agree with these observations!!

  18. I love the burgandy jeans! I have a white pair of jeans from Target and they are kind of on the thinner jean type. How are the burgandy ones? Are they true jean or more jeggin?

Also, I wanted to mention that I've been noticing that you are wearing your hair wavy more often in your pictures and I absolutely love it! I have naturally curly hair and straighten mine more often than not, but as it gets longer, I'm trying to embrace more of my curl.

  19. Great outfit. Love your jeans. I probably wouldn't wear a printed trench. I'm more a plain solid kind of girl, but it looks amazing on you. I don't always find the same deals in the store and on line. I found a pair of white pants that were much cheaper in the store then on line. You have to be very savy and aware of the prices.

  20. Thanks Christine! The Target jeans are definitely stretchy and soft, more of a jegging! (Although they passed my "knee cap" test - jeans have to be thick enough that you can't see my knee caps too clearly through the material.)

  22. I just purchased some burgundy skinny cords from Banana Republic and love them!! They come in mustard too, and I thought of you when I saw them! Maybe you could justify another yellow bottom if they were cords and not jeans? :)

  23. I love the trench coat, it will so work this fall! You look great in burgundy too!

  24. I absolutely love this look, it's one of my faves I've seen from you! That coat is so fabulous, I can't believe it's been hiding in the back of your closet!

  25. Love the outfit.  Are those Target jeans Purple or Crimson?

  26. I love your printed trench, especially paired with that dark red and black.

I've had no luck at Kohl's lately.  Even with some of their newer lines, like LC, I still feel like the store is meant for teenagers and their frumpy moms.  It's very hard for me to find something modern, age-appropriate, and decent fit/quality in Kohl's any more.

  27. Love the jeans! I bought a similar pair at The Limited but I like yours so much better!!

  28. It is a sin, I know, but I covet that leopard trench. Also, strongly considering those yellow jeans after reading your review of them. I've been looking for yellow that errs more on the brown side than yellow, so that's actually a good thing for me. Thanks!

  29. I totalyl dig the leather trench--and with burgundy?  Delicious!  I LOVE this outfit, J!  Also, I love your Kohl's pics, especially the polka dot top.  How freaking cute.  Bummer that the dress and blazer didn't workout, though.

  30. I love the trench paired with the burgundy jeans! I would wear this in a hearbeat...classy outfit!

  31. With your "richer" burgundy-and-black pieces and shoes............ (not to mention your dramatic Lillith Fringe Necklace with gold;  shiny gold;  brass;  and blackened, plated-brass elements!!)............ this is such a  *L.*U.*X.*E.*  look, J.!!

I love that you're showing us just how  v.e.r.s.a.t.i.l.e.  a leopard trench CAN REALLY BE, e.g. ............ for Fall, as now............ in the Spring, too (as you styled it this past March!!)............ as two very chic, almost Parisian-style, looks (in August of last year)............ as a Casual Friday work look............ etc.!!

  32. You look very sophisticted, I like this look a lot. It's perfect for fall with these burgundury pants. great idea pairing it with this coat. I like it even better than the inspiration photo. Have a great weekend, J.

  33. Thanks April! I think they are the Burgundy color, but the tag doesn't indicate anywhere (bought them in the store) so I can't be sure.

  34. Hey J!
I have a question: How do you manage to wear those layers in Florida? I recently moved to Florida from Michigan and my style has suffered like crazy! My cardigans are all in the unemployment lline and I haven't heard from my blazers in months. I tried to go the natural fabric route for ventilation; it doesn't matter. I end up in a pool of sweat and sticky hair. It's September and it's still hitting 90 degrees. Do you have any suggestions for me? I'm sartorially challenged ( and feel sooo underdressed) wearing only 1-2 pieces of clothing per day (e.g. sundresses and shorts).

  35. Hi Amanda! Sounds like you are in the right place! Check out my 4 albums on Facebook with more than 1,000 outfits - most of them are warm-weather looks, simply because I do live in Florida. (Here's one photo album, it goes chronologically: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.324855397540203.100240.120030604689351&type=3)  I've learned to use fun color combos and accessories, and I always pack a cardigan with me in the summer to battle the a/c. Blazers are perfect for FL winters and at night. I do share a lot of what I wear but this blog is technically a magazine format where I share it all - everything I try on in my room and even my fails, and I try to post outfits for other climates as well. (See "about" for more info.) Hope this helps! :-)

  36. I am totally in love with your look!  I tried on gray leopard blazer the other day but just didn't have enough confidence to rock it...even though I have a ton of animal print stuff.  Love it with the burgundy jeans!  So on trend!

BTW, I have the LC polka dot top that I bought a couple seasons ago in different color & love it!!
