Fall 2012 Shopping Guide - Under $100

I'm still under the weather, so today I'm presenting my top shopping picks for fall 2012. Almost everything is under $100, and all of these items are on my personal shopping list. Which trends are your favorite?

Colorblock Blouses  - A twist on a classic staple, these silky menswear inspired shirts have just a touch of colorblocking, which is a huge trend this fall. I'm totally crushing on #1.

1. Urban Outfitters blouse, $59
2. Banana Republic blouse, $89.50
3. Limited blouse, $46.90

Strappy Shoes - I'm goo-goo for this style of shoe, and want all of them. Okay, #1 and #4 if I had to narrow it down, but these shoes go with everything from rolled up distressed jeans, to a miniskirt for a night out.

1. Vince Camuto heels, $79.99
2. Steve Madden heels, $100
3. Boutique 9 heels, $105
4. Calvin Klein heels, $119

Military - Military is a trend that just won't retreat (bad joke). I'm thrilled it's still going strong, and plan to pair more masculine pieces like these with dainty heels, lace or a soft blouse.

1. Gap jacket, $79.95
2. Banana Republic shirt, $69.50
3. Old Navy jacket, $39.94

Peplum  - Peplum adds a girlish curve and is a throwback to the 60's. Looks great belted, unbelted and is a welcome addition to shirts, dresses and skirts alike.

1. Urban Outfitters peplum dress, $69
2. River Island peplum, $49.71
3. Topshop peplum, $36
4. ASOS peplum, $29

Polka dots -  Polka dots are still going strong this fall. They look great paired with other polka dots and even stripes, making them an easy, versatile print that anyone can wear.

1. Forever 21 dress, $22.80
2. Dillard's shirt, $20.65
3. Alloy shirt, $32.90

Printed Pant - Do you dare? So many cute printed pants are popping up in stores, I think I'll wind up taking the plunge at some point. The key to looking cute is sticking with a slim, cropped silhouette to avoid print overload.

1. Limited printed pants, $59.60
2. Old Navy printed pants, $25 (comes in 3 other fun prints)
3. Macy's printed pants, $69
4. Lucky Brand printed pants, $63.99

Honorable Mentions - This fall I'm also loving anything maroon, sky blue, loafer heels and the plaid trend is still going strong. What's on your shopping list this fall?

1. Express maroon shirt, $49.90
2. Limited sky blue jeans, $74.90
3. Banana Republic loafers, $128
4. Gap plaid shirt, $49.95

  5. I got a colorblock blouse from Ann Taylor that I am loving for this season! http://www.polyvore.com/petite_colorblocked_long_sleeve_blouse/thing?id=60020121

I think I'm ready to take the printed pants plunge too, but maybe something not quite so 'out there'. I really love the white flowered ones but those probably won't be practical for fall...I'll have to try some on!

  6. Great picks J!  I'm loving these for fall (especially since I already have most of them, yay for saving money!), but I'm super excited to start wearing my military jacket again this fall!

  9. Strappy metallic shoes!  I was just thinking that yesterday!  I bought a military jacket on sale last winter and have been dying to get it on.  And I am always on board for polka dots!

  10. I too love the printed pants but am afraid of what I will think when I look back on pictures of myself in them.  But they are such a wonderful jolt of caffeine in a groggy pants department!

  11. seriously THANK YOU! this list is like having my own stylist point to things and say "easy update, girl!" I'm going for the color block blouse and strappy shoes, and a printed pair of jeans.

  12. Love military style always, especially in navy.  The printed pants have been "calling me," still not sure I'm ready, how old do you have to be to pull that off... Always in the mood for polka dots, fun. Peplum, hmmmm.  I have to see how you work this in. And I think I'm out on plaid, unless it's peeking through, like cuffs or a collar.  Hope you feel better soon.

  24. I like your list.  Not to sure of the printed pants.  I just bought a polka dot blouse but I haven't worn it yet.  I was going to try pairing it with polka dot shorts (Old Navy) but I didn't like it.  I liked it on you though.

  31. The Calvin Klein heels are great. I have them in grey but I would suggest buying a half size down. I also just got those patterned pants from The Limited. I'll see what I have to go with them in my wardrobe - a little scared about this but I hope I can find outfits to create with them. Thanks for all the great inspiration!

  34. I would love to see a list of 'must haves' for any girls closet! I am getting inspirations before shopping for business casual clothes for a new job, and need basic pieces that are not too expensive and can mix and match well. For sure on my list is polka dot shirt and colorful cardigans!

  37. Great review of the trends for fall! I personally LOVE polka dots and can't wait to add a peplum top or dress to my wardrobe. I've yet to find the perfect one, but I'm still searching.

I actually covered polka dots on my blog on monday:  http://twoboroughs.blogspot.com/search/label/monday%20muse

  38. I did try that but there wasn't anything within 100 miles. When you want something so bad, you will find a way. I called customer service and they located one. It's been shipped. Thanks so much! I hope you start feeling better soon, and I'm so glad your back.
P.s. If you could copy anything you find and like from Emily Maynard and post where you found the pieces I would be forever grateful! :)

  39. Hi j,
I've a q, most peplum tops are usually sleeveless. As office wear how can I wear a cardigan/blazer over it without it poofing up. Or are these tops made for as it is? Thx!

  47. As I've said in response to other posts..:) ....I am in hot pursuit of camel jeans and/or cargo pants. Haven't found what I'm looking for yet. Also on the list is olive linen pants, ocean colored shirts and cardigans. Also, I am stuck on what type of shoe to wear with skinny jeans. I am NOT a heel girl. Once school starts I will be working in the library and so I need comfortable shoes, but would like them to be fashionable too.  Suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lisa, I just saw a bunch of camel colored clothing (including jeans/pants) on Old Navy's website. They might also have the color of top/cardigan you are referring to, depending on what ocean means to you. ;-) As for what to wear with skinny jeans, the genius in that fit of pant is that they work with absolutely every kind of shoe - ballet flats look great, or my personal favorite is a simple gladiator sandal like one that goes between the toe. Hope this helps!

  49. You should check out Maurices.com!

  50. When I say ocean colors, I am referring to the colors you wear. :)

Thanks, this was lots of help!

  51. I'm so glad Military style jackets and vests are still going strong, the versatility of the pieces are great. I tried the link on here to buy one from Old Navy and Gap and the only size available was XL. I'll have to try checking back periodically to see if they become available again.  Love your blog!!

  52. I've had a military jacket from Gap in my closet for 5 years. I've been wearing it no matter the season for the whole 5 years. I loved it so much that I picked up another Gap military jacket a year and a half ago. Glad to see it's "in style" now. But that obviously wasn't stopping me before!

  53. Thank you for being such and inspriration!  I'm having trouble deciding what to wear to an outdoor fall wedding. Temperature will be around 60. Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thanks Reyne! I just ordered this dress (haven't tried it on yet) and love it in both colors for a fall wedding. You could also wear close-toe pumps and add tights and/or a cardigan depending on how cold you feel. http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/landingpages/jenniferlopez/apparel/dresses/PRD~1114082/Jennifer+Lopez+Ponte+Sheath+Dress.jsp
