Today's Everyday Fashion: Western

This is one of my favorite inspiration photos of all time. It's western meets New Mexico, and I love it. When I spotted the blue tribal skirt in the store, it popped into my head to add my blue embroidered shirt, mimicking the pattern mixing she's got going on. In some ways I love the end result and in others it didn't come out like I imagined it, so I'm returning the skirt. I found this Gap shirt for $19 yesterday (make that $9 with a Gap reward), so I'm sticking to the shirt, and will continue to hunt for cute patterned bottoms so I can attempt more print mixing! Would you wear these looks?

  3. I love your new skirt!  It's a shame you are returning, because I think it looks great and there are a lot of things you can do with it.  I  real love Francesca's and really miss that store!  When I lived in Florida, I bought so much jewelry there and a few pieces of clothing!  I must say though that the clothing is over-priced for the quality.

  4. So what do u do about the bra situation with a shirt like that gap shirt? Not wearing one is not an option for me and I find the strapless uncomfortable.

  5. I totally agree! I swear they are selling some of the exact same pieces I just saw in Forever 21, only for 3 times the price.

  6. I would totally wear this look! I feel you really have to know what youre doing to pull this off. Love the western style. I like how you added yellow, too. Looks great! I live in Texas so this style is seen more often than not! Great job!

  7. Love the way you paired it.  Keep the skirt.

  8. I love the inspiration photo look! I would rock that head to toe. I like your rendition of it, but personally think the belt and shoes are throwing it off a bit for me. Your CL fringe wedges and a funky leather belt might do the trick. Also, would this top work with the tribal shorts you modeled recently?

  9. Stunning! Love the Piperlime shirt!

  10. Why are you returning the skirt? It's so cute! I'm just wondering. Thanks!

  12. No way, don't take back that skirt!  I love this outfit!  I much prefer your rendition than the inspiration photo.

  14. I'm not quite loving either looks. They're just too crazy for my taste. While I think the idea in general is great and I do love nice western inspired outfits, these both versions just don't work for me. I like your shirt, though. But I also have to say, you have way cooler shoes than the ones you're wearing in the picture. ;-)

  15. Great idea, Lora! I'm not in love with the white shoes either and I kept thinking what would look great instead.. and the fringe wedges are such a great choice. The wedges and a leather belt would add a cool edge to the outfit, I think.

  20. I think this look is great!  But I can see why you don't think it lives up to the inspiration photo.

  24. I love ikat prints and tribal prints, but I like a more-involved/softer, *mixed* print............ like the pretty GAP Ikat Braided Cami, (as in #1, Above), which you purchased with your GAP Reward............ instead of, say, a more intense/bolder/more jarring print with fewer patterns in it, (e.g., like your cobalt blue Tribal Print Skirt, Above).

I also like yellow AND The "Exposed Zipper" Look, but the deal-breaker~~(i.e., for me!!)~~with your cobalt blue Tribal Print Skirt would've been............ the exposed  *y.e.l.l.o.w.*  zipper at the back of the skirt............ (which can be seen in the Alternate Views in the link)............ because it would've, I think, just made me VERY self-conscious............ (i.e., in the way in which the  *P.O.P.!*  of a yellow zipper seems to rather indiscreetly "stand out" back THERE, haha)!!

  25. J, you really do have such a great talent putting these combinations together.  It pulled together so well even down to the belt.  This would be a look that I would rock definitely, it's creative, fun, and stylish.

  26. I personally love the skirt! Are you returning because you don't like the pattern or color so much? I think it's great!

  27. I like the Gap shirt more, and I don't love the slight A-line fit on the skirt (which is hard to see in this picture!).

  28. Haha Rosanna, yes the yellow zipper in the back seemed fun at first but I agree it's a little distracting!

  29. I agree! I am on the hunt for a red and white pattern like her skirt to add to my closet!

  30. I think you guys are thinking of the outfit I wore for Cinco de Mayo - it was exactly the combo you are describing. Way too soon to repeat that combo in my book! ;-) http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/05/todays-everyday-fashion-cinco-de-mayo.html

  35. There's almost an exact replica of the 3rd shirt (of the 3 blue printed ones) at target.  It's regularly $8, on sale this week for $5!
