Today's Everyday Fashion: Alexander McQueen

Of all the runway shows and all the designers, Alexander McQueen was definitely one of my favorites. I think this inspiration photo was taken after Sarah Burton took over, but I can still see his influence and I love it. I'm not sure if I could get away with a backwards hair net and pink brace as a fashion statement, however, I did give it a try with a lime pencil skirt and soft pink shirt, necklace and shoes. I ultimately decided to return these shoes (too similar to my nude pumps), but I do like this for a work look. Which runway designers are your favorites? Are you a fan of blush pink pumps?

  1. I love your color combination, and love the Topshop skirt you recommended!  Alexander McQueen is one of my favorite designers, but his stuff is never really wearable for the everyday woman, except for his awesome clutches!  xx

  3. McQueen is actually my fav!  I waited in line at the met for 6 hours to see the exhibit last year :) - worth every second of the wait too - his tailoring was genius and I think Sarah Burton is doing a great job following in his footsteps

  5. Love the combination of nude + any bright or neon color...it's a great way for people who are color-hesitant to start out!

  8. I think this is an awesome take on such beautiful/weird fashion statement.  Those blush pumps are very pretty!  Did you like the pumps, other than their being similar to ones you already own?

  9. Hey J! Is your necklace this season or from recent at H&M?

  10. I loved that you used as an inspiration a runway outfit and made it work in "real life"! The last lime skirt from urban outfiters that you posted is my favorite, the color is amazing!

  11. I agree that the nude pumps would be better. I love those nude shoes.

  12. Lovin' the runway inspired look. Your legs look longer and leaner than ever! However, I can't help but notice the wrinkles in the skirt and in your shirt from yesterday's post. I'm not trying to post any negativity, just thought I could offer some friendly advice!

  14. McQueen is my favorite designer! So sad when he took his own life. Such a shame. He was very talented but I think incredibly distressed over his mother's death (or so I read). I also own that necklace! It's heavy but really a nice statement piece: http://fashionatforty.blogspot.com/2012/05/jeans-week-look-4.html

  15. This is simply a lovely outfit. Something about the lime and blush- who knew they went so well together? And what's wrong with a little backwards hair net at a corporate meeting? It would be the crowning glory on your look! Haha teasing!

  16. Haha I know, right?! ;-)

  17. Too funny, I would describe this necklace as very lightweight! Compared to my Stella & Dot necklaces which are extremely heavy (they use all "real" gemstones), it feels like air! :-)

  18. Jess, those are the same shirts, two different colors. The 100% silk material is extremely soft, but unfortunately the bad thing about silk is that it always looks a little wrinkled, even after steaming. I still love silk though! It's beautiful in it's imperfection. :-)

  19. Rebecca, yes I like everything about the pumps, I just felt like they were way too similar to my nude pumps. I would like some light pink pumps at some point, but I'm leaning towards a different shade of pink!

  20. I am in love with that necklace but there is no H&M near me :(. I have the turquoise J crew bubble necklace but am looking for something similar in another color. Will have to keep scouting.

  24. I really like the blush pink pumps.  I have a pair of nude pumps that have a blushy feel to them.  When I wore them a couple of weeks ago, a sweet elderly woman told me how nice it is to see girls in pumps again.  She scowled as she explained she doesn't like all those shoes where the toes stick out lol. She was so cute :)

Oh we are loving this combination! So cute! Ah, I had a feeling I should have gotten that lime pencil skirt at the Limited... ;) p.s. those shoes should stay in your closet, love them!

  36. I think that you are fabulous Jay but neon yellow will never work with a muted pink. Have a look at how he has actually used a burnished gold (another muted colour). You are amazing though and what a smile!

  37. I absolutely LOVE this! Love the colors together. This looks is perfect for me to wear to work, too. love love love!

  38. Thank you! :-) I'm a strong believer that if you love every outfit I post, then I'm not doing my job! I also think you should never say never when it comes to fashion - it's way too subjective and the fact that one color combo could look amazing to someone, and hideous to the next is my favorite thing about it. It speaks to all of us differently. :-)

  39. obsessed with the skirt you are wearing! so cute & thats a fabulous color on you!

  40. I have to say I really like the shoes. They're great. But I'm not digging the rest of the outfit. It feels "too old", I think. Also, I'm not a fan of the neon skirt. So I would add a pair of black skinnies instead, tuck the blouse in a little and wear it with a cognac bag and belt ;) That's the only way I'd wear it...

  41. I love this outfit! Neon and nude is such a good pairing. I am especially in love with your necklace, it really completes the outfit. Just came across your blog and I'm loving everything I see.
