Today's Everyday Fashion: Wine, Women & Shoes

Yesterday I attended Wine, Women & Shoes in Orlando and this is what I wore! I was honored to be the judge of the "Best in Shoe" contest, and spent the day scoping out everyone's shoes and picking three winners. For my own ensemble, these lime bow shoes were the obvious choice from my closet. I chose the turquoise dress next (see the last time I wore it here), and I accessorized with a lime green belt and necklace to tie in the shoes. It was colorful and with the accessory changes, it felt like a brand-new dress again. I ended the event with a long session of Mexican food and margaritas with the girls, and overall was such a fun day/night! What fun shoes would you wear if you attended Wine, Women & Shoes?

Also - this is the outfit I originally put together for the event! The day before, I decided it was too short and loose to wear up on stage (a little test revealed it was not my best idea). I love this outfit, but I'll be returning the dress since it's way too short!

  2. I like the shoes with the dress. But the accessorys you chose to war just makes it feel a little too matchy-matchy! I think I would have skipped the necklace and bangles and just went with the belt. or skip the belt and simply go with the necklace.

  4. I love the outfit you wore.  You look wonderful!

However, I am not a fan of dresses with the fitted top and the super short and loose/full skirt on you such as the outfit you had planned and the chevron dress you wore to the shower.  Both are great, but on your tall frame the short and full skirt looks like you are wearing a little girl’s dress or trying to stay in the junior’s department longer than one should.  Again, I think it seems to be only with the fitted top + a short full skirt.  I remember a short pink dress you wore that was also loose, but the top wasn’t fitted and you looked hot!  Same thing when the short skirt is a closer fit.   Again, I really love the look you wore.  That dress was made for you.

  5. HELP!! I am trying to get into wearing colored shoes and just cannot seem to be able to wrap my head around it! These look absolutely fantastic on you....but I always feel like I am standing out tooo much when I try and pull off a colored shoe...I am beginning to think it is all in my head though...

  6.  I agree.  But I love the dress!  The color and fit are great on you J!  I think you look fabulous as always.

  7. Just found your site and love it!  You look great and I, for one, happen to LOVE dresses with a snug top and lose bottom..........my thighs are my worst feature, I'll do anything I can to hide em!

  8. I love the outfit you went with - actually like it better than the original! I do like monochromatic effect of the dress & necklace in the original look, though. I could never attend an event like this because all I wear is flats... :)

  12. Thank you! I'm not sure who came up with the idea to use the iPad but it worked out really well. I was showing a lot of the attendees the shoes I had taken pictures of as the day went on, and it made it readlly easy to flip through and pick the winners at the end! :-)

  13. There were lots of lovely ladies in flats! :-) The shoe contest categories were Way Hot Wedge, Sexy Stiletto and Best in Shoe. The first two were heels (obviously) but the Best in Shoe was actually a really low pump! Everyone looked fab!

  15. Rachel, I would suggest taking baby steps - my mustard pumps are so muted they almost look brown. You could try something like that first, and work your way up to something brighter! Another way to look at it - a bright skirt or shirt can draw attention to parts of your body you would rather conceal. Feet are usually devoid of problem areas though! Good luck. :-)

  16. Thank you Andi! I agree that the fit of the first dress is a bit juvenile. That, and the fact that it's 4 inches too short, make it not a win. :-) I have to disagree about the chevron dress though. A sheath dress with a full skirt like that reminds me of housewives in the 60's, and not so much teenagers. I also wish that skirt was a few inches longer, but that seems to be a reality for shopping in your 20's. The juniors stuff is often too short, but the women's section usually feels too "old." I think at this age it's all about finding a balance between the two departments, which is definitely something I try to do!

  19. Please don’t misunderstand about the juniors department comment.  I didn’t mean it ugly or like we shouldn’t shop in juniors because I do and I’m older than you. My 29 y.o. sister in law is 5’11”, thin (a beauty!) with a long torso and that is a comment she makes all the time when a strapless dress doesn’t fit her well b/c of her height and torso.  It’s funny with her, but doesn’t translate well with a stranger on the internet! And I totally agree about the Chevron dress.  I loved it and it was very “Mad Men”.  I guess I just think those dresses look better on slightly fuller busted women (which doesn’t include me, either) to balance out the fullness of the skirt. You still looked gorgeous in it!

  20. i love love love that first outfit - it's a shame that second dress is too short cause it is SO cute!! and i looks like such a fun event!

  21. Not at all girl! :-) I thought your comment was great! I have this convo with friends/clients in their 20's all the time about the juniors department! I also see your point about the shape of the chevron dress - that shape works really, really well on women with bigger hips/thighs and even busts, and I generally do better in something with a slim fit (like the dress I wound up with in this post). I like to switch things up from time to time though - keeps it interesting. ;-)

  22. Sorry I'm with Jamie. You are absolutely adorable, but I think it's way too much! Always take one thing off before you leave the house is my opinion. Too much going on, and too matchy matchy.

  24. Wow - I have to say that I think this is one of my favorite outfits on you, and the shoes you selected were definitely perfect, considering the event title! It sounds like such a fun time...

  25. Where did you get the turquoise necklace from your original outfit? I have been searching for a necklace like that forever, and haven't been able to find one that I really liked!

Erin, that necklace is from H&M two summers ago. J.Crew has one in stores right now for $150. You can also try searching for "Jcrew bubble necklace" on eBay - there are tons of cheap knock-offs for around $15!

  28. I really like the blue, lime green and yellow color combo! I agree completely about shopping in the jr and womens sections. Being in my 20's I find it easy to shop in the juniors section but I also have gotten many great finds in the women's section as well. I rarely ever shop in the jr sections at Kohl's but I've also received many compliments on jewelry that is from stores targeted toward older women such as Chico's and Coldwater Creek. I always keep my eyes peeled and never limit myself to any certain stores. It's really helped to keep my wardrobe fresh and unique. It's really fun to see such a fun event in Orlando. I'm from the Orlando area, so its great to see others from this area who enjoy fashion also!
