I was shopping online a few weeks ago and came across this picture on ASOS. I loved the skirt and wanted to buy it (it's only $36), but after mulling it over I realized I already had a similar skirt! So I saved the photo to use as inspiration with my own clothes instead. The tank and skirt are an obvious match, but the inspiration photo gets all the credit for the shoes. This outfit also looks great with a shrunken navy blazer (below), making it a super-easy day to night look. Have you ever bought an item only to realize you already had a similar one at home?

every day of my life. I recently bought a light peach blazer from H&M (yay warm weather) and wore it on Friday. On Sunday, I started taking out my summer clothes and pulled out 2 blazers almost the exact same color, albeit in different fabrics. Thank God for my husband who just said, "that's okay. You can just rotate them."
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time! I buy something, bring it home, and then realize deep in my closet I had something similar that could have worked -- then I go back and return what I bought! haha. Its the best when you can shop your own closet!

Haha, I love when that happens, it happens too often! Your skirt is amazing! :) It is always nice to remember pieces you already have :)
ReplyDeleteI think we have a tendancy to like items that we already have in our closet, since we know that they work and usually without realing we pick something similar. When this happens I try to keep an open and if I have a home an item is almost the same I won't buy the new one, but if the new finding is in a different color, and has some interesting details I will buy it since I know that it will help me create new outfits!
ReplyDeleteI do this a lot with sweaters and cardis! Hey, it shows you know what you like!! :-) Looking fabulous!

Oh this is a toughie for me- a pesky little habit of mine! Lately, I'm trying my best to put the item back if I have something similar to it already. It's already saving me gas and my wallet!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! I have done that before too...I need to come up with some sort of inventory system, haha
ReplyDeleteI agree Catalina! More of the same can be a good thing if there are some attributes that make it slightly different. I'm also not opposed to multiples - same item in different colors can be great when you find something you love! :-)
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing- if my memory was totally off and I buy something identical, then I make myself return the new item!
ReplyDeletethis is SO cute! and YES - i do that all the time - or at least i'm trying to do that more. and it's so coincidental i blogged about an ASOS skirt today, too! samesies! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh - would love to see it with the navy blazer...that sounds so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteJust added a picture with the navy blazer to my post! The sun was streaming in funny in the picture so I originally didn't want to post it, but I agree it is more fun to see it than to just talk about it! :-)
ReplyDeletepretty skirt J!

Yes! This is why blogs like yours are so valuable -- it makes you see your own stuff with new eyes.
ReplyDeleteOn my last trip to H&M I saw a really cute sweater and was thinking about buying it. I remembered I already had it in a different color pretty quickly. It took me a couple of days to find it though. I need more space :)
ReplyDeleteI have a similar shirt I found on clearance at Target that I love love LOVE!

Love the look with the blazer! So fun and perfect for the office.
ReplyDeleteI gravitate toward the same colors over and over again so I'll buy something only to get home and realize I have 5 other pieces in the same color!
I think it makes sense for you to be drawn to something you already own. I'm constantly gravitating towards striped tops because..well, I love them. Every time I have to ask myself if I'm just duplicating, or actually adding something to my closet.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! Pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI usually bring home an item and realize I have *six* of it at home...lol. Great thinking on your part. I love style bloggers who use what's in their closet!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in this outfit - gorgeous!

I used to go shopping way more when I used credit cards and if I liked how something looked I would buy it in another color...especially when shopping at The Limited and Express. They have a tendency to have multi color/prints of the same top, bottom. But now I try to shop at more thrift stores and hunt for one of a kind styles that I can mix with those plain items I have in every color. For example...I found a Tory Burch Tunic for $5 at the goodwill...and I can pair it with jeans, shorts, leggings...and it has coral, white and orange so many options.
ReplyDeletei like your skirt better
ReplyDeleteI don't want to buy what I already have and even though I've paired down my closet, I still can't find much "new" to buy. So, I'm now making a list, as I sort through photos or magazines, to look for certain items. I'm not shopping to be shopping anymore!!! Nice outfit, loving those shoes!
ReplyDeleteJudy, that
