Today's Everyday Fashion: Retro Barbie

Last night I attended a Central Florida Lady Bloggers meet-up and this is what I wore! I picked up this dress last week at Nordstrom Rack and it was love at first sight. It has a slight retro feel, but I also get a total Barbie vibe from it. I wanted even more color so I added yellow accents, a mint necklace and patent pink shoes (even though they aren't the exact same shade of pink*, they "go"). It was a fun night and if you live in Central Florida be sure to join our Facebook page for more events!

*One of these days I will master DSLR photography, but in the meantime, my shoes are actually the color in the picture on the left, not the right. :-p

  1. The dress is so cute and I just love the way you styled it with the bright accessories.  I would probably play it "safe" and put all black with it or something, but you always have such great ideas!  Looking fabulous!

  23. You might want to turn off your flash indoors. I know that's hard if you are shooting in automatic mode. I actually love shooting with flash outdoors. Gives an ethereal quality to the face.

  24. The photo on the left is the only indoor flash photo I've posted with my new camera - it accidentally went off, but when I uploaded my photos I was shocked to find that it was by far the best photo I took yesterday!! All of the other photos (such as the one on the right, which was taken with NO flash), were really washed out from my feet down, I assume b/c of the angle of the sun. Also, the flash photo was way more true to life (color-wise) than all of the other photos. So normally I would say no flash indoors, but this time it was actually way better than no flash photos!!

  25. Thanks Lindsey! We mostly just hang out, but inevitably we all geek out and wind up talking about self-hosting, SEO, etc. :-) I think we are also going to start adding guest speakers who will cover a # of blog topics, too!

  26. This is so intense - and you pull it off smashingly!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh wow. That's odd. Because in the photo on the right, it looks like the flash is bouncing off your shoes. Another thing you could try is playing with the white balance. Possibly using 'tungsten.' Then again, like you said, it could have just been the position of the sun streaming in (you're near a window, right?).

  28. Such a cute combo!

  29. Nope, no flash on the right. I stand facing floor-length windows and I think the sun was lower in the sky, so it was only hitting my feet. The flash photo on the left wound up being the best one (I think) because with the flash I got an even amount of light. and all my other photos my feet were washed out.

  35. Cute dress!! I love you paired that bright yellow belt and teal necklace with it! It has a great retro nod, but not full on vibe!

  36. I like the polka dots but I wouldn't be able to pull off a dress like that. It's too short for me. Do you feel like you'll need to lengthen your hemlines as you get older, or do you think short skirts can work for people of all ages if they have the right body type?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Super cute dress! I'm a N. Florida blogger. :)

  38. What an absolutely *gorgeous* outfit, J!!    In addition to the bright, cheery colors, I love the bodice ruffles on your dress............ i.e., instead of "real poofy ruffles," they're kind of "pressed-flat ruffles," it seems (??)............ which maybe makes your dress then a little bit more wearable for meet-ups with your Central Florida blogger friends, and/or other business-related activities!!

  39. Morgan, I've still got a couple years before i'm 30 so I'm not worrying about my hemlines yet. :-) In general though, I really think you should dress for your body and not your age! Cameron Diaz could totally pull of this dress b/c she has a great body. Of course some level of appropriateness is key (such as not wearing ponytails and looking like a little kid) but mini-lengths don't bother me even if you are 30 or 40!

  44. I'm new to  your blog.  Found you through Pinterest I believe and I actually don't get to browse blogs anymore but, yours is so fun!  I have to say that I LOVE your taste in fashion.  I too am fond of pattern and bright colors and it's refreshing to see someone else who isn't afraid to mix and match color!  Your outfits are fantastic and now I'm itching to take out a huge loan and shop at H & M and Forever 21...hubby will not be happy;).  You have great taste girl!
